Charly Bliss are back with a new single titled “I Need a New Boyfriend.” Stream it below.
An ode to romantic liberation, “I Need a New Boyfriend” leans into the New York-based band’s emo-pop sensibilities. Overtop a guitar-led arrangement, vocalist Eva Hendricks delivers melodic lines with lyrics about ditching her less-than-ideal boyfriend, who only offers her backhanded compliments, emotional unavailability, and is simply not fun enough to keep up.
“I think the best breakup songs are celebratory,” Hendricks explained in a statement. “Thankfully, decades of dating the wrong people has prepared me to write the emo, palm-muted breakup song of my dreams.”
“I Need a New Boyfriend” arrives alongside a music video directed by the band’s Dan Shure, featuring the band’s members trying out a speed-dating night on a set sculpted out of clay by Hendricks herself. “I was in Australia when Dan had the idea for this video,...

New York’s Charly Bliss release ‘I Need A New Boyfriend,’ an effervescent new single that arrives with a hysterical video directed by the band’s Dan Shure.
“I think the best breakup songs are celebratory. Thankfully, decades of dating the wrong people has prepared me to write the emo, palm-muted breakup song of my dreams,” explains Eva Hendricks. “I was in Australia when Dan had the idea for this video, so we had to create a fictional Bliss Bar where we could all be together for Speed Dating Night. I bought the entire clay aisle of our local craft store and had a lot of fun creating a miniature version of the set that we could all be green screened into. Dan is the world’s best director and editor and did an incredible job pulling everything together. Please contact Cb Worldwide if you believe you may be entitled to a new boyfriend.

A lot’s happened since we last heard from Charly Bliss, but they’re catching us up to speed with the single “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore,” the New York band’s first new music since 2020.
The chipper, playful “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore” came about after a major change in location that transformed singer Eva Hendricks’ life for the better: “I moved to Australia and felt a million miles away from who I had been in New York,” she explains in a press release. “Like I had been reborn happy, carefree, and slightly less pale. I was convinced that I had totally bypassed the ‘wherever you go, there you are’ thing. Lexapro also helped.”
Hendricks further describes the song as “the ‘fuck it!’ that you earn after burning your entire life down and starting over.” On its verses, she recalls some of the most painful...

A tribute album to Adam Schlesinger being released today on Bandcamp includes cover songs by two actors who collaborated with the late songwriter on projects, Rachel Bloom and Sarah Silverman, as well as contemporaries of Schlesinger’s from the rock world like Kay Hanley, Nada Surf and Tanya Donnelly.
“Saving for a Custom Van,” which takes its name from the title track of the essential Fountains of Wayne album “Utopia Parkway,” is a 31-track collection that covers the breadth of Schlesinger’s performing and songwriting career. Besides familiar FoW songs from the late ’90s and 2000s, the collection also includes songs from his six-season run as the core house writer for TV’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” the films “Music and Lyrics” and “That Thing You Do!,” and Schlesinger’s other long-standing band, Ivy. Even two of the songs he wrote for “Josie and the Pussycats” figure into the expansive track list.

Here at Rolling Stone, we listen to a lot of music in any given year. When we asked staff members to share their favorite albums of 2019, we found some strong consensus picks — Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Taylor Swift’s Lover, Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You, and Miranda Lambert’s Wildcard all appeared across multiple lists — along with dozens more choices that reflect individual writers’ and editors’ vastly different tastes. (One colleague responded with a list of favorite songs instead of albums, suggesting a further divide in how we listen to music.

When Charly Bliss entered Sunset Studios to begin work on their second album, the Brooklyn quartet already knew they had way too many songs for one album. So, the band has collected five of those songs together for a surprise Ep, Supermoon.
Supermoon more directly recalls the bubblegum-grunge of Guppy than the pop-rock that ended up defining the band’s most recent LP, Young Enough.
“This Ep serves as a bridge, spanning the distance between Guppy and Young Enough,” says the band’s frontwoman and primary songwriter Eva Hendricks. “It...

Charly Bliss channel the artful visual drama of Kate Bush with their dizzying “Young Enough” video. Throughout the clip, singer Eva Hendricks and two backing dancers kick up dust as they perform interpretive movements in an open field. As the sunsets, their matching white outfits change from jumpsuits to gowns, and the visual style shifts from graceful to manic — including a series of fast-motion effects.
The Bush influence was intentional, as Hendricks told director Henry Kaplan that she wanted to channel the art-rocker’s iconic video for 1985 single “Running Up...

Chicago – A fiery phoenix rising from grunge and punk rock ashes, Skating Polly brings youthful hope to anyone looking for in-your-face, high energy, furious live performances. The talented trio alternate instruments and create a new form of music they call “Ugly Pop.” They performed at Schuba’s in Chicago on May 2nd, 2019.
Jeff Doles of HollywoodChicago.com recently attended that show. He caught up with Peyton Bighorse, the bass guitarist, sometimes drummer, sometimes singer of Skating Polly. In addition to talking about the origins of the band, Peyton discusses a wide array of topics, including the songwriting process, the local scene in their native Oklahoma (which includes a famous local venue) and how the band continues to evolve and grow.

It helps any musician or band when at least a couple if not all of them are devoted to the music, and Sam and Eva Hendricks did manage to grow up being raised by very devoted music fans. This helped immensely when it came to sticking it out and creating their own band with a couple of friends that helped them to become Charly Bliss, a power pop band that hails from Brooklyn, New York. This group might not be the most well-known in the world but listening to their sound you can at least get the feeling that they

Charly Bliss’s 2017 debut Guppy was the kind of alt-rock charmer that keeps revealing secrets and pleasures beyond its tough, shiny exterior. The songs mixed chugging Breeders riffs and vintage-Weezer poo-metal, a popular retro-rock formula they nailed with uniquely uncanny precision. But the big revelation was helium-voiced singer Eva Hendricks’ ability to expunge deep anxieties while still seeming sharp and in-control. “Ruby” was a Nirvana-strength ode to her shrink; “Glitter” was a radiant guitar-gusher about the emotionally crinkly subject of dating someone who weirded you out by reminding you of yourself.

Brooklyn band Charly Bliss made one of last year’s best debuts with Guppy, a landslide of squeaky hooks and manicured guitar fuzz. “Heaven” is their first new music since then, and like Guppy the new song invites alt-rock comparisons — in this case, Weezer’s power-chorded 3/4-time chug.
