When it comes to cultural impact, mega-sales and drama, this year’s Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards is going to have an awfully difficult time competing with last year’s category.
The 2013 winner, you might remember, was “Let It Go,” the anthem from “Frozen” that became a hit around the world and spawned a zillion amateur YouTube renditions.

We're just going to say it: this year's X Factor wasn't a golden year. By that, we mean there was no Leona, no Olly, no Alexandra, Little Mix or even a Wagner or Jedward. With the exception of Tamera Foster - who has all the components of a brilliant popstar but hasn't quite worked out how they fit together yet - there wasn't a whole lot to get excited about with this year's lineup.
But it would be cruel to label the winner Sam Bailey as the best of a bad bunch. She does, without question, have a fantastic voice that was able to cope with the tired and limiting themes it was hit with each week; including disco, songs from films and, worst of all, 'Best of X Factor'. From week one, she was the act you could depend on for a great vocal performance and as such...

Adele has been named the top album and UK hit songwriter in the first quarter of 2011 due to the massive sales of her sophomore album. The 'Rolling In The Deep' star has topped the chart for the top 20 album songwriter in the first quarter of the year, having co-written 10 out of 11 tracks on her multi-million selling album 21 and six out of 12 songs on her debut 19, which has also seen an increase in sales over the last few months. Fellow 21 contributors have also placed highly on the list with Paul Epworth at three, Ryan Tedder at seven, Eg White at 12 and Fraser T Smith at 14, reports Music Week. The Cure have also been helped by Adele with the inclusion of her cover version of their track 'Lovesong' on her album, which places them at joint seventh with Tedder. The high sales of her first two records put her ahead of hit-making...

Mark Ronson "would enjoy" working on more movie soundtracks after his experience on "Arthur". The producer-and-musician had a great experience working on his first film, a remake of the 1981 comedy in which Russell Brand takes on the lead role originally played by Dudley Moore, and is ready to take on more big screen projects.
He told Bang Showbiz, "The original 'Arthur' is one of my favorite movies. When I moved to the U.S. when I was eight there was one station where it was like the only movie they played, pretty much on loop." He added, "I haven't got any plans to do another film at present, but it's something I would enjoy doing in the future at some point."
Mark's initial involvement in the project came when director Jason Winer wanted to use one of his old tracks in the film, and everything spiraled from there...

Adele has revealed that a song from her new album was inspired by a boyfriend who "took the p*ss" out of her. The singer's feelings about the "exploitative" partner were so strong that they burst out during a spontaneous songwriting session with Eg White, the Ivor Novello winner with whom she penned her 2008 breakthrough hit 'Chasing Pavements'. "He played a chord and then I just started singing it," Adele recalled. "It's about my devotion to someone and them not caring and taking the p*ss out of me and kind of exploiting me I guess. Being a diehard "American Idol" fan is an emotional roller-coaster. No matter how much you dig a performer on the show, by the time his or her album leaks your fandom has been deflated by less-than-awesome singles and frustrations with how they're being marketed. "Idol" albums are often over-written, over-produced and over-calculated, making the artist feel like studio-bots with little personality. "I'll like the songs on tour, without all the studio crap around it," you say to yourself, trying to save face when deep down you know your favorite new singer laid an egg.
Well, fans of our current "American Idol" can breathe a giant sigh of relief, because AOL premiered Kris Allen's self-titled major label debut this morning and it’s pretty damn good.
I jotted down some notes while listening to the CD for the first time. And MTV News would like me to share them with you.

In some ways, there's no experience less satisfying than listening to song-snippet leaks from albums you've been anticipating for mini-eternities. (What? After an hour of smelling a chocolate cake baking in an oven, you'd be happy with a crumb?) And while our Music Mix blog has already run an item on...
