CNN has enlisted New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins as a contributor, bringing aboard a current player to comment on national affairs as the United States grapples with many issues of racism and social justice. Jenkins is expected to contribute to various CNN studio programs as well as other content from the AT&T-owned cable-news outlet. Executives informed staffers of the hire Monday morning. “Now more than ever, the public needs to be educated on the roles of elected positions of power, such as the District Attorney, Police Chief or City Council and how to hold those individuals accountable, especially through their voice and their vote. In an important election year, I’m eager to join the CNN family and share my perspective as a regular contributor,” Jenkins said in a statement. ” I also want to thank CNN for their thoughtful leadership in viewing professional athletes beyond their sport as...

Trevor Noah and The Daily Social Distancing Show returned from a two-week hiatus tonight — but dang if there he had anything to talk about. It’s not like, y’know, stuff happened.
But Comedy Central’s intrepid late-night host soldiered on and opted to tackle an old topic: police brutality.
The day before George Floyd is laid to rest, an often grim-faced Noah said: “People have been comparing this moment to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. And much like the 1960s, law enforcement officers have met these calls to end policy brutality with even more police brutality.”
Cue the montage of “heavily armed police using military-style tactics.” During the video clips, one reporter noted how local law enforcement stocked up on heavy weaponry after 9/11 to combat the threat of terrorism.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah continues to expand – returning after a two-week hiatus with an extended one-hour episode.
The Comedy Central series will return at 11 tonight, June 8, with guests including Black Visions Collective organizer Miski Noor and Super Bowl champion and NFL Players Coalition co-founder Anquan Boldin.
It is the latest move to extend the show past its previous 30-minute form. It started airing 45-minute episodes from April 27, amid the global pandemic. The South African comedian told Deadline last month that he wanted to expand the show to incorporate more global news but not at the expense of domestic news.
Noah, one of the few late-night talk show hosts of color, likely will have lots to say on the hourlong special, coming the day before the funeral of George Floyd, whose killing sparked a social uprising in the country.

The National Football League has created a social justice platform, Inspire Change, fulfilling a promised part of the league’s effort to calm the waters following last year’s national anthem protests by players.
The NFL announced the initiative Friday, emphasizing its commitment to education, economic development and community and police relations. The league will provide funding to grassroots organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Operation Hope, and will establish a digital learning curriculum for African-American history in 175 high schools.
The program was announced by the league and the Players Coalition, a group of players that claims to work for social justice, founded by Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin. But not every NFL baller is behind it.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid, Los Angeles Chargers tackle Russell Okung, and New York Giants safety Michael Thomas all withdrew from the group shortly after its founding, claiming they weren’t consulted.

A group of NFL players — Anquan Boldin, Malcolm Jenkins, Doug Baldwin and Benjamin Watson — told President Donald Trump that his offer to pardon those who received unfair treatment by the justice system “will not address” the systemic injustice they have been protesting.
“A handful of pardons will not address the sort of systemic injustice that N.F.L. players have been protesting,” they wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times. “These are problems that our government has created, many of which occur at the local level. If President Trump thinks he can end these injustices if we deliver him a few names, he hasn’t been listening to us.”
The quartet of players are all members of the Players Coalition, an advocacy group made up of former and current NFL players.

Just when the Tennessee Titans were just starting to make some noise in the NFL since Chris Johnson rushed for 2,000 yards in his rookie season, the Titans have run straight into a brick wall. Just a week removed from a stunning performance against the visiting San Diego Chargers (aside from a few maddening inconsistencies), quarterback Jake Locker was turning in his greatest performance under center.
In one half of play, Locker was turning heads with three touchdowns against a tough New York Jets defense, helping the Titans start off with a commanding 24-6 lead. But in the third quarter, the last thing that Titans fans needed to see happened.
On the beginning of their second drive in the third quarter, Jake Locker suffered two big hits from Jets defensive linemen Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples. After Locker’s attempted pass to Nate Washington was ruled incomplete, Titans fans watched as...

It was only a few years ago that the Nfc West was considered the worst division in the NFL, and all of pro football for that matter.
It was the laughing stock of the whole league as the Seattle Seahawks won a divisional title with a 7-9 record, becoming the first team ever to make the play-offs with a losing record back in 2010.
Fast forward a couple of years and it is difficult to picture how the Nfc West could be transformed into arguably the best and most interesting division in the NFL, as we approach the start of the 2013 season in a little over a weeks time.
The situation was so dire that a genuine discussion was held about whether the governing body of the league needed to alter – or at the very least look at – the seeding system for the play-offs.
Now as the long off-season prepares to draw to a close,...

We are now less than 24 hours away from the kick-off to the 2013 NFL Draft.
On Thursday night, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will walk up to the podium, welcome all of the fans to an exciting evening and then, the Kansas City Chiefs will be on the clock.
Ever since the end of Super Bowl Xlviii back in February, fans have been making their wish lists and making their own mock drafts for their teams.
Some of those lists changed dramatically back in March when free agency started and teams shelled out major money to land premier talent on the market.
But teams have also been very quiet in free agency with the draft in mind, like the reigning Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.
After they defeated the San Francisco 49ers two months ago, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Dannell Ellerbe, Paul Kruger, Cary Williams, Bernard Pollard, Anquan Boldin and Matt Birk have all either retired,...
