To give a taste of their upcoming album, Vows, Hot Water Music have chosen to highlight two collaborations with other punk bands. On “Remnants,” the band teamed with Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates and drummer Daniel Fang, and the musicians recorded “Fences” with Thrice. The album, which also contains collaborations with members of City and Colour, Alexisonfire, the Interrupters, and Farside, among others, will come out on May 10.
“Remnants” begins with a driving, funky, punky riff that allows Hot Water Music frontman Chuck Ragan to sing about supporting a friend through thick and thin.

Hot Water Music are celebrating their 30th anniversary in a big way. In addition to embarking on a previously announced 2024 tour, the veteran post-hardcore band is releasing a guest-filled new album titled Vows on May 10th.
The LP features contributions from Daniel Fang and Brendan Yates of Turnstile; Thrice; Dallas Green of Alexisonfire and City and Colour; The Interrupters; and Popeye Vogelsang of Calling Hours and Farside.
In advance of the album’s release, Hot Water Music have unveiled the singles “Menace” and “Burn Forever,” neither featuring any guests.
“In this day and age, it’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day frustrations,” singer-guitarist Chuck Ragan says of the song “Menace,” adding, “What isn’t easy all the time is recognizing our ability to choose our mental state. We own the power to slow down enough to be present in our anger, realizing the paths away from hatred and...

Remember the first time you heard Jeff Buckley’s haunting vocals on Grace or felt R.E.M.’s emotional wallop through the arrangements of Automatic for the People? City and Colour’s The Love Still Held Me Near hits just like that. But its creation didn’t come easy at all for Dallas Green. The Ontario, Canada, singer-songwriter had to process two deaths during the making of the album. But it’s that grieving that gives The Love Still Held Me Near its heart — even as it crushes yours.

City and Colour (a.k.a. singer-songwriter Dallas Green) has just released the emotional new track “Meant To Be”, the first new music from City and Colour since the 2019 album A Pill for Loneliness.
As a press release for the new single explains, the single is Green’s response to a painful, life-changing loss when, in September 2019, he learned that his best friend, longtime City and Colour producer Karl Bareham, drowned while swimming off Australia’s Gold Coast while the band was on a break during an Australian tour.

Green then had to identify his friend’s body at the morgue, a chilling experience remains with him.

Canada has long had its own stable of music stars, the most successful domestic act being the Tragically Hip, a band that spent much of its 30-year-career headlining shows coast to coast — until cancer recently claimed the life of frontman Gord Downie.
Artists like Michael Bublé, Drake, The Weeknd, Nickelback and Bryan Adams also play arenas around the world, as did Rush before their retirement, but Canada also has a number of acts who can consistently sell out big venues at home.
Some acts choose to play “soft-seaters” for a more intimate experience — for example, Johnny Reid just did 125,000 tickets over 40-plus dates, including multiple theaters in every market — and with Canadian Music Week showcasing the best of the country’s musical exports, here are nine names (in alphabetical order) who consistently headline arenas or amphitheaters in a country whose population is one-tenth of the United States.

Florida Georgia Line have their first No. 1 album, as "Anything Goes" bows on top of The Billboard 200. It sold 197,000 copies over last week. That bests the No. 2 on the list, Jason Aldean's former No. 1 "Old Boots, New Dirt," which sold 91,000. Suprisingly, Bob Seger's never had a higher debut than this week, as "Ride Out" starts out at No. 3 with 59,000. His 1986 album "Like a Rock" eventually peaked at the same spot, so it ties. You+Me -- the combo of Pink (Alecia Moore) and City And Colour's Dallas Green -- sees their "rose ave." bow at No. 4 with 50,000. Barbra Streisand's former chart-topper "Partners" falls No. 3 to No. 5 with 40,000. Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" rebounds No. 10 to No. 6 with 37,000, after appearances on "The Tonight Show" and "Today." The Game's new one "Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf" howls at No. 7 with 33,000. Hoodie Allen's "People Keep Talking" starts at No.

Before talking to the artist formerly and futurely known as Pink about her newest project, we were instructed not to call her by the colorful moniker she's gone by for her entire career. For You + Me, a collaboration with folk musician (and longtime friend) Dallas Green, the singer is returning to her birth name, Alecia Moore. Fair enough. We spoke to Pi— err, Moore and Green about their new album rose ave., why their friendship works, and the worst varieties of alcohol they sampled during the recording process.Alecia, what drew you to Dallas? Alecia Moore: I liked Dallas since the moment I met him. It's cool to meet a guy who I can fall in love with, and who my husband falls in love with as well. We're best buddies.Dallas Green: We became friends that first night. I opened some shows for her in the U.

Pink is no stranger to a ballad, but her brand new song "You and Me" picks up an acoustic guitar and swoons over pedal steel, with new duet partner Dallas Green -- aka, City and Colour. Performing under her given name Alecia Moore, the pop star and Green have crafted a 10-song album called "rose ave." under the name You+Me. "rose ave." is due on Oct. 14 via RCA. The sentimental lyric video for their song "You and Me" can seen below, and pre-orders for the album come with a download of the single. "The artists met through Alecia's husband Carey Hart and instantly felt a connection and wanted to work together," reads a statement from the label. "Alecia invited Dallas to Los Angeles to write a song or two and ended up writing 8 songs together in 1 week. The duo then decided to finish and record an album." Just looking...

You can say whatever you want about City and Colour's Dallas Green and his music. But he's had enough with the online attacks on his wife, TV personality Leah Miller.
Green has written a song in response to the "amateur commentators" who hide behind anonymous comments about Miller. The track, "Commentators," appears on his brand-new album "The Hurry and the Harm."
"It's a response to lazy journalism and faceless commentating that exists in our day and age," says Green. "Not on me, on my wife. I wrote the first verse on a particularly bad night of her reading things on the internet that she shouldn't. I try to get her not to, but she does, because she's human. The other day Leah was saying to me, 'I got a really nice tweet today. The person wrote 'I hate you.' That kind of stuff makes me think, 'what is happening in this world?...

Dallas Green is no longer the elephant in the room. Or, perhaps more accurately, City And Colour isn't.
"The Hurry And The Harm," out June 4, is the fourth release for Green under the City And Colour moniker, and the first since his split from Alexisonfire. Green first came to prominence as the singer in the singing/screaming post-hardcore act, and his decision to quit and focus on his increasingly popular acoustic solo work precipitated the group's break-up in 2011. It was an awkward situation made all the more so by the fact that his departure was kept quiet for a year, first from his own bandmates, then from the public.
Green comes clean about his feelings on the whole affair on the break-up song "Of Space And Time," the first track leaked from The Hurry And The Harm, singing, "There's an elephant in the back of the room / and it's standing...

Toronto -- Indie-rock songstress Leslie Feist took home a Juno for Artist of the Year on Sunday night, and jazz crooner Michael Buble's holiday-themed "Christmas" claimed the prize for Album of the Year at the 41st annual Canadian music awards ceremony.
Feist, best known for her whimsical 2007 song "1234," which became an international hit after it was featured in an iPod nano commercial, might have surprised some with Sunday night's win since her contemplative fourth disc, "Metals," wasn't nominated for Album of the Year.
Feist's big win brought her Juno tally to three for the weekend, and 11 for her career.
"I just need a second," she marveled as she stepped to the microphone, shaking her head from side to side, looking stunned, as well as stunning in a red, lace dress.
"I'm just in shock. ... I guess all I can really do is try to express some genuine gratitude. I can't believe I'm standing here.

With Christmas officially less than two weeks away, it’s about time that procrastinators like myself get off the couch and do some final shopping for the holiday season. If you don’t feel like getting 26-pound gummy bears for your whole family, then why not consider the gift of music? Don’t go the lazy iTunes gift card route either. Instead, put some thought into this to show how much you care and try to gift someone with tunes they’ve probably never heard but you think they will fall for. They'll never forget the guy or gal who introduced them to their favorite new band, and they’ll appreciate the fact that you seem to know them pretty well.

It is increasingly rare in today’s modern music world to see a band make it past the ten year mark. It’s even rarer to see a band do it while maintaining musical credibility. Case in point, Every Time I Die – a group of headbanging, enthusiastic Bills fans from Buffalo who feature some of the dirtiest, awesomest metal riffs you’ll ever hear and just so happen to throw the hottest damn concerts in town.
Every Time I Die started off with brothers Keith Buckley and Jordan Buckley on vocals and guitars, respectively, before adding Andy “Paul Bunyan” Williams as a second guitarist. Original drummer Mike “Ratboy” Novak handled sticks for the group from their 1998 inception until 2009 when Canadian Ryan Leger (a madman on the drums nicknamed “Legs”) replaced him. (Insert name here) has been with the group since… sorry, inside joke since the bassist position...

At the second annual Rock the Court Charity Basketball Tournament held at the University of Toronto, Win Butler of Arcade Fire took part in the tournament. Surprise, Butler is really good at basketball. Butler joined other musicians like Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam and Dallas Green of City and Colour for the charity event, playing alongside former NBA players Brent Barry and Paul Shirley and the Philadelphia 76ers’ Spencer Hawes. However, Butler seemed to start a rivalry with Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs after beating him in a three-point competition. Tomorrow, Butler and Bonner will also be playing...

What's more adorable than listening to Arcade Fire frontman (and alleged basketball thief) Win Butler brag about his superior three-point shooting skills to old friend and San Antonio Spurs player Matt Bonner? Maybe watching his sizable, lanky body plummet down on the basketball court during an especially heated moment of the game. Fortunately for those of us who love all things endearingly awkward, that's exactly what happened at the Rock the Court charity basketball match in Toronto, which pitted NBA players, musicians, and sports bloggers against each other for four surprisingly intense quarters. Butler, who's six-foot-four, is actually pretty awesome. He may have seemed maladroit at times, what with his wild arm-flapping and flailing and falling on top of everyone, but the man's got some shot. Also present in the game were Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, and Dallas Green (whose recording alias is City [...]...

There were some interesting sights on day one of Austin City Limits, but day two was no slouch on the “weird” either. I witnessed a full-grown man wearing only women’s underwear, several tween girls attempt crowd surfing for the first time, and an elderly woman with Skrillex clearly circled on her schedule. Just another typical day at Acl, where the weirder you are, the more welcome you seem to be.
First on the agenda were MTV Vma performers Young the Giant. Mere seconds before Ytg took the stage, the sky dropped a sudden downpour of rain (two days in a row now after three months of zilch). The rain was coming down rather hard and was a bit chilly as everyone was expecting dry, 100-plus degree weather throughout the weekend, but the many hippies I saw doing “rain dances” must’ve worked their magic.

I was more than a bit surprised when I heard Dallas Green’s subdued, piano-driven cover of his own post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire’s “Happiness by the Kilowatt.” Despite my affinity for the band (and all things loud at the time), I much preferred Green’s melancholic rendition, which was undeniably moving. It’s not the most common thing to see a tattooed punk rocker bearing his soul with an acoustic guitar, but the toned down sensibilities of Green’s alter-ego, City & Colour, harkens back to the singer-songwriter days of Bob Dylan.

Dallas Green played as City and Colour while he was in Alexisonfire, Thrice’s Dustin Kensrue has his acoustic thing, and Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan is putting out his third acoustic solo album. With all the one-off albums and halfhearted acoustic songwriting, it can be hard to tell which Martin-gripping, tattooed guy is doing it for real and who isn’t....
