Starz has greenlit Down in the Valley, a documentary series inspired by the hit series P-Valley from executive producers Katori Hall and Nicco Annan. Hall is the creator of P-Valley and Annan has starred as Uncle Clifford since the show’s inception. The project will debut later this year.
Hosted by Annan, the six-half-hour episode series will take viewers on a tantalizing tour of the Deep South, unveiling a complex South that is equal parts poignant, joyful and magical, Starz said in a release. Additionally, Annan is set to be “immersed in the people, sensuality, music, culture and stories of the South. From strip clubs to sex workshops, rap performances, and ancient hoodoo rituals, Annan, as well as the audience, will experience it all.”

There’s a change at the helm of Bel-Air. Chris Collins has stepped down as showrunner and executive producer of Peacock’s drama reboot of the 1990s Will Smith sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson, whose credits include The Chi and The 100, will take over as co-showrunners, Deadline has confirmed.
The hourlong series, based on Morgan Cooper’s popular fan film that reenvisions the original series, hails from Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal Television. It received a two-season order in September 2020.
Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and...

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to The Flying Man, a short film written and directed by animator and visual effects artist Marcus Alqueres (300, Source Code, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) with the intent to adapting it into a full-length feature.
In this beautiful, unsettling short, a powerful Übermensch acts as judge, jury, and executioner as he goes around killing the criminals in his city. Unlike most superheroes in comics, the audience isn’t meant to casually rationalize with this hero nor are audiences expected to agree with his methods of dropping people from dizzying heights to their terrifying deaths. And what’s most interesting about this short is its refusal to turn its superhero into a personality while also making a parallel between the anti-hero and a drone. Infact, here the protagonist doesn’t seem like an anti-hero, so much as a terrorist.

Sons of Anarchy, Season 6: Episode 13 – “A Mother’s Work”
Written by Kurt Sutter and Chris Collins
Directed by Kurt Sutter
Well, there you go. That was the season six finale of Sons of Anarchy. Are we better off as viewers of this show thirteen episodes later? I don’t know, but my gut instinct is this: not really. What I get from the deaths of Clay and now Tara is that these actors were fantastic talents caught in a rut of a tragic show – tragic not just in the Greek, dramatic tragic sense, which this series certainly exemplifies, but tragic in how misused many of these superb elements have been lately. Maggie Siff, especially, displays how high the standard of quality Sons of Anarachy is on paper in “A Mother’s Work.” Even though a lot of the magnetism between Jax and Tara had been gone and seeing the...

New Sons Of Anarchy season 6,finale episode 13 spoiler promo clip hit the net. Last night, FX released the new promo/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "Sons Of Anarchy" finale episode 13 of season 6, and it looks like they just showed past scenes, which is disappointing, but is still action-filled as hell. The finale episode is entitled, "A Mother's Work." The clip that was released for the finale episode looks to be just be mash up of scenes from previous episodes, but that's all they put out, so enjoy. I suspect, they really don't want to give anything away, but I think it's kinda tacky, but whatever. The official spoiler snippet for the episode, goes like this:"The ramifications of Jax’s choices will put his club and family in jeopardy." The episode was written by Kurt Sutter & Chris Collins, and directed by Kurt Sutter. The finale episode 13 is set to air on Tuesday night,...

Sons of Anarchy, Season 6: Episode 11 – “Aon Rud Persanta”
Written by Chris Collins and Kurt Sutter
Directed by Peter Weller
Airs Tuesday nights at 10 on FX
Nero calls it the Godfather dilemma: the more you try to distance yourself, the closer you get sucked in. Tara is extremely familiar with this concept as well. And as we leave “Aon Rud Persanta,” she is the focus. Is the bullet that she pulls out of Bobby something that she plans to use against the club to gain that distance? If so, will it work or will she become more immersed in what the Sons are trying to do with Charming? With one full season left after these next and final two episodes of the year, we know that the club isn’t going to be brought down quite yet (unless Sutter wants the final season to take place in jail, which, you know…...

Sons Of Anarchy writer/producer Chris Collins (who's also written for The Wire and Star Wars: The Clone Wars), is developing a new action series for TNT. He goes off the grid, and dedicates himself to helping those in need. Which we're pretty sure is also the plot of The A-Team. Sons of Anarchy, Season 6: Episode 5 – “The Mad King”
Written by Chris Collins, Roberto Patino & Kurt Sutter
Directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton
Airs Tuesday nights at 10pm Et on FX
So, after last week’s Sons of Anarchy, we didn’t quite get a sense of what was going to happen with Roosevelt’s investigation into Nero. Would he back off now that Toric was dead? Would he keep pressing into the issue, hoping to tie the Sons to something tangible? Would he even be a part of the next few episodes (Sons has certainly stepped away from semi-important characters in the past)? “The Mad King” kind of gives us our answer, but neither fully nor satisfactorily. Just as Roosevelt looks like he’s going to do something serious about the DNA results from Nero’s vehicle, the Sons’ clubhouse blows up and the screen cuts to the series logo. Once again,...

Sons of Anarchy, Season 6: Episode 2 – “One One Six”
Written by Chris Collins & Adria Lang
Directed by Peter Weller
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on FX
FX has pretty much let Kurt Sutter have his way with Sons of Anarchy. Even when disregarding how combative the series is with non-premium cable content (Sons is constantly pushing violence and sex to their extremes within the basic cable boundaries), the series is just structurally different from anything else on TV by design. Sutter and the other writers get their ideas together, and if those ideas fit into a traditional 42- to 45-minute episode, great. If those ideas extend to something that ends up being 59 minutes, that’s great too, because FX doesn’t police this show when it comes to length. What that means is that Sons sometimes drops a truly fantastic episode of television, because Sutter has so much going on...

There’s barely room in here to breathe. Everything that’s been moving and moving this season seems to be on a reckless collision course with one another. As haphazard as that may sound, it gells so beautifully, it’s so sublime, it’s almost ridiculous how good the pieces fit together. It’s symphonic interlocking. As up and down as this season may have been, credit being due where it’s due, this is The best episode of the season. Even if it has some low watermarks in regards to some slightly wonky plotting.

At last, they’ve gotten rid of Clay. That he should’ve died when he was layed up in the hospital last season, well that’s a whole ‘nother story.

Sons Of Anarchy 5×07 – Toad’S Wild Ride
Stars: Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Kim Coates, Ron Perlman, Tommy Flanagan, Ryan Hurst | Written by Kurt Sutter, Chris Collins | Directed by Peter Weller
**Spoilers Lie Beyond Here**
It seems the noose is tightening around most of our major players, if not all of them this week.
First things, they kicked the home invasion storyline into high gear in a short, heavy burst. They spill almost all the major beans of Clay’s plot to overthrow Jax at the throne before Act One. It seemed a little too exposition-y for my tastes but then again, I was complaining about the lack of story for this plot, I just didn’t expect infodump. I mean, it makes sense for Clay to back this kind of play, as he spent almost all of last season as a mustache twirling supervillain. I felt a...

Exclusive: Dominic Monaghan has been cast as the narrator of Crackle‘s original horror-thriller anthology series The Unknown, which launches later this year on the Sony TV-owned multiplatform network. Monaghan (Lost, The Lord Of The Rings trilogy) will play a blogger who chronicles the unexplained phenomenon that occurs in each of the six half-hour episodes. He is repped by Apa. Frances Fisher, William Atherton, Taryn Manning, Jay Ferguson, and Christina Pickles have signed on for the stand-alone episodes so far. Crackle’s first longform scripted show marks the latest push to expand its original longer-form series, joining such original content as drama Urban Wolf, comedy Backwash and the live-action/animated hybrid Issues. Chris Collins (Sons Of Anarchy) and former LucasFilm executive Steve Tzirlin are executive producing Unknown. Just as Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely, and Dean Lorey begin writing the new 10-episode season of the once-cancelled-and-recently-internet-greenlit Fox television show Arrested Development (scheduled to air on Netflix sometime in 2013), Crackle greenlights another entrant into the Long-Form-Content-of-Television-Quality-but-Distributed-Online fray. Andrew Wallenstein at Variety reports the digital network, studio, and destination for television programs, movies, and a healthy amount of original web series just ordered six episodes of a half-hour anthology series dubbed The Unkown. Sons of Anarchy producer Chris Collins and the Co-Head of Fox Writers Studio Steve Tzirlin are on board to executive produce. The Unkown will be in the vein of The X-Files, Creepshow, and/or Twilight Zone and is scheduled scheduled to go into production in March for a 2012 release. That’s almost a full year after Eric Berger, Executive Vice President of Digital Networks at Sony Pictures Television, announced Crackle would make a pivot into long-form, but still male-leaning programming.

Crime series does pay... huge emotional dividends
My only real complaint about HBO’s full-series box set of The Wire—the groundbreaking series about drug dealers, detectives, dock workers, students, reporters and pretty much everyone else in Baltimore—is the timing. This cinder block of a set, including 23 DVDs and an abundance of commentaries and features (many previously released on the series sets), arrives just months after the show’s final heart-rending, mind-blowing episode in March. It’s a handsome,...
