Colorado Congressmen Ed Perlmutter (D-co) and Jason Crow (D-co) have re-introduced a Resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to designate July 20 as “National Heroes Day” to honor the nation’s everyday heroes.
The campaign to delegate July 20th as National Heroes Day has received the support of several notable filmmakers and celebrities in the entertainment industry and as well as some of this country’s longtime philanthropic leaders, such as Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Best Buddies and Eric Zahren, President of the 117 year-old Carnegie Hero Fund.
The resolution was first introduced last year on July 20 and sought to also recognize the everyday heroes across the 50 states who came to the aid of others during the Covid pandemic.
“The Carnegie Hero Fund is proud to support the National Heroes Day initiative and its efforts to shine a light on everyday heroes all around us,” said Hero Fund President Eric Zahren.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has canceled a performance during Republican National Convention festivities in Tampa, THR reports.
A number of entertainers are slated to add some fun to the Rnc proceedings, but the looming threat of Hurricane Isaac may put a literal dampener on the whole week. As you may have heard, Atkins was arrested and charged with domestic assault on November 21st. His wife claims that Atkins assaulted her and tried to smother her with a pillow after a night of heavy drinking.

Mr. Kermit goes to Washington! With his career now back on top thanks to a hit movie, everyone's favorite Muppet (sorry, Elmo) was invited to D.C. on Thursday to help the first family light up the White House Christmas tree. And while the Black Eyed Peas, country music star Rodney Atkins and, of course, Santa were all in attendance, it was the green guy who definitely stole the spotlight. Upon joining first lady Michelle Obama for a reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," Kermit quickly made a connection. "You can call me Michelle," President Barack Obama's better half told her new felt friend. "That's really nice of you," replied Kermit....

Washington — The new National Christmas Tree is settling into its new digs just south of the White House.
President Barack Obama and his family officially marked the start of the Christmas season by lighting the tree in a ceremony just after dark Thursday.
The 26-foot Colorado blue spruce was planted in March on the Ellipse, a park that lies between the White House and the National Mall. Strong winds in February toppled the previous tree, which stood in the park since 1978.
In remarks delivered during the tree-lighting ceremony, Obama urged the crowd to be generous and to help others in need during the holidays.
"In this season of hope, let's help those who need it most: the homeless, the hungry, the sick and shut-in," he said. "In this season of plenty, let's reach out to those who struggle to find work or provide for their families."

Scotty McCreery might have the right stuff to break the recent "American Idol" chart jinx. After last season's winner, Lee DeWyze, just barely cracked the top 20 with his debut last year (and was recently dropped by his label), teenage country crooner McCreery's debut, Clear As Day, will hit #1 on the Billboard albums chart next week on sales of 197,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Following on the heels of the disappointing DeWyze debut and the #11 bow by season eight winner Kris Allen, McCreery's sales are the biggest for an "Idol" winner since David Cook moved 280,000 copies of his self-titled debut in 2008. And believe it or not, it was the first #1 debut by an "Idol" winner since season two's Ruben Studdard.
Further down the line, Canadian songbird Feist debuts at #7 with the feathery Metals,...

Next week, Scotty McCreery will become the first “American Idol” winner to land his debut album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since Ruben Studdard eight years ago. McCreery’s country set, “Clear As Day” looks like it will sell up towards 190,000 copies in its opening frame, according to Hits Daily Double. Three other sets are likely to bow in the top 10: Jack’s Mannequin’s “People and Things” at No. 7, Feist’s “Metals” at No. 9 and Rodney Atkins’ Take A Back Road” at No. 10 ,although it may be edged out by Mayday Parade’s self-titled set. It took a bit longer than he anticipated, but next week the wait will end for Roc Nation's J. Cole. After a string of lauded features and mixtapes, Cole is finally having his moment, which means that the long-awaited return of pop punkers Blink-182, Neighborhoods, has to settle for a #2 debut (151,000), while veteran indie godheads Wilco have a solid opening bid at #5 with their self-released The Whole Love (82,000).
