We haven't heard much about the new Halloween movie since Dimension Films hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write it back in February, but now it looks like the film's title and synopsis have been unveiled, giving us a tease of Michael Myers' next onscreen slaughter.
According to Moviehole, the title of the new Halloween movie is Halloween Returns (not to be confused with Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers). Described as a standalone film, Halloween Returns will see Michael escape the clutches of the law once again:
“Halloween Returns” will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.
Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own...

Any Halloween fan will tell you that, as far as Michael Myers goes, one thing is for certain – the guy doesn’t stay dead for long. Dimension Films is actively plotting the fearsome killer’s latest return to the big screen, and in order to get the ball rolling on what one source called a franchise “recalibration,” the studio has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the screenwriting duo behind multiple Saw movies, to pen the script.
Franchise mainstay Malek Akkad, who has been producing Halloween movies since the 2007 reboot but involved since the mid-1990s, is producing alongside Matt Stein. Akkad is the son of original executive producer Moustapha Akkad.
It’s still unclear what role this new Halloween entry will play in deciding the future of the franchise. Dimension obviously understands that some repiloting is in order given how poorly Rob Zombie’s 2007 reboot and 2009 sequel were received by fans,...

- We Got This Covered
In October of 1978, we saw Michael Myers come home. It was the first time he’d stepped on his town’s soil in 15 years, but it certainly wouldn’t be the last. Over the decades, we’ve seen the serial killing prodigal son of Haddonfield cross back into small town limits to create carnage with everything from a butcher knife to a pitchfork, though we haven’t seen his silent rage at work on the big screen since Rob Zombie’s H2 in 2009.
But we’re now one big step closer to seeing Michael come home again, as the folks at Dimension Films have hired a pair of writers to pen the long-gestating next entry in the Halloween franchise, and many horror hounds are very familiar with the duo tasked with bringing back The Shape.

Dimension Films has brought on frequent "Saw" series scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen a new chapter in the "Halloween" franchise according to Heat Vision.
What's interesting here is that the project is being called a "re-calibration" and is decidedly Not a reboot, remake or re-imagining. This likely means something akin to 2005's "Doctor Who" reboot - a refresh/revival of the franchise, but one that keeps the previous continuity intact.
This would match reports from last year that the new film will follow the same continuity from Rob Zombie's two "Halloween" films but Zombie himself is not directing.
No director is attached at this time, and no details were given for the new story beyond it still likely following white-masked serial killer Michael Myers. Matt Stein and Malek Akkad are producing.

Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the scripters behind Saw IV-VII, the Feast series and The Collector and The Collection, will pen a new Halloween, finally following Rob Zombie’s films. THR reported the news of the film, to be produced by Malek Akkad and Matt Stein. No director is attached or announced, and it seems there’s little sense what to call the…

Toronto -- Looking to thwart foreign broadband competition, Canada’s broadcast regulator has Ok'd local cable and phone giants rolling out broadband usage meters.
The Crtc approved an application by Bell Canada to introduce a so-called “usage-based billing” system for wholesale Internet service providers (ISPs) that purchase services from the phone giant.
The move was immediately panned by ISPs for reducing competition in the Canadian broadband delivery market.
“Requiring competitive Internet service providers to mirror Bell’s retail usage based billing plans and rates will remove competitive choice from the market, to the detriment of consumers” Matt Stein, a spokesman for the Canadian Network Operators Consortium, representing ISPs, said.
But getting Canadians to pay by the byte to view video online, and incur excessive usage charges, comes as they increasingly soak up bandwith to download movies and TV shows from iTunes, the newly-launched Netflix Canada service and other foreign video portals.

Die-hard Halloween fans may be shocked, appalled—outraged, even. Michael Myers, their beloved Shape, has a new look (again)…and, horror of horrors, spends a certain amount of time on screen minus his signature mask. Why, how and where, Fango will not reveal at this point; allow writer/director Rob Zombie to explain…
“This is not a remake of [1981’s] Halloween II; this is totally my thing, my story,” he says, a serious look in his eyes as the crew breaks for lunch. “After I made Halloween, I was totally burned out. I said I’d never make a sequel. But after every record, every tour, I say the same thing.”
And now Zombie is back at the helm of Dimension’s sequel (currently slated for an August 28 release) to his 2007 hit reworking of the John Carpenter classic. So, too, are Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis, the feisty Scout Taylor-Compton (pictured) as Laurie Strode,...

Rob Zombie recently sat down with FEARnet’s Spider (who also happens to be Zombie’s brother) and discussed his upcoming H2. He said about the film, “For some reason Halloween was one of those shoots that was stressful and crazed from day one. Everything was a struggle and a problem. So, when it was done I was ready to be done. Then time goes by, you regenerate, forget and the idea of a sequel seems okay. But by that point I thought someone else was already doing it. So I just forgot about it. Then I ran into Matt Stein from Weinstein Company at the Scream Awards and found out that it [...]...

FearNET correspondent Spider, frontman of Powerman 5000, has an advantage when it comes to getting the dirt regarding H2 where other journalists don't: He's the writer-director's brother. And so, he, and FearNET, put that blood bond to good use to get Rob Zombie to talk a bit about his sequel to Halloween . Here, Zombie explains why he decided to leap back into the franchise: "For some reason Halloween was one of those shoots that was stressful and crazed from day one. Everything was a struggle and a problem. So, when it was done I was ready to be done. Then time goes by, you regenerate, forget and the idea of a sequel seems okay.
