Ed Sheeran doesn’t plan on asking ChatGPT for help anytime soon. The singer sat down with Audacy Live before a live performance to share his feelings about artificial intelligence and how he’d rather it not exist. At all.
“What I don’t understand about AI is like… For the last 60 years, Hollywood movies have been telling you, ‘Don’t do it.’ And now everyone’s doing it,” he said. “I’m just like, ‘Have you not seen the movies where they kill us all?’ “
“Also I don’t know why you need it.

Two months ago, an anonymous songwriter wearing a sheet over their head set the music world aflame when they shared a song they recorded on their own featuring an uncanny copy of Drake’s voice, made possible with artificial intelligence. “Heart on My Sleeve” — still imperfect, but catchy and close enough to convince many listeners it could be a potential Drake hit — caused a national stir as the music business and the rest of the world tried to figure out what to make of it. The song lasted just two days before Universal Music Group,...

Suffering from many of the same issues as Kasi Lemmons’ Witney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Spinning Gold contains too rich of a life for its 137-minute runtime. The brilliance of both Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane and Todd Haynes’ fictional glam rock epic Velvet Goldmine is that they understood there’s only so much you can bite off, starting with the official record and working with those in closest proximity to their subject.
Directed by Timothy Scott Bogart––son of its subject, Neil Bogart––and told from the first-person perspective of the record executive (played by Jeremy Jordan), Spinning Gold takes the colorful story of an entrepreneur who died at age 39 and races through several highlights. These include discovering and packaging Kiss, figuring out that Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” needed to be 17 minutes long so people can make love to it, and working with the Isley Brothers,...

Beyoncé‘s “Halo” was co-written by a rock star. He penned lyrics for the bridge of the song. Subsequently, Queen B decided to take the song in another direction.

Ryan Tedder is the lead singer of the pop-rock band OneRepublic. He wrote songs for other artists, including Lil Nas X’s “Thats What I Want,” the Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker,” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love.”
During a 2020 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tedder discussed the origin of “Halo.” Beyoncé was a fan of OneRepublic’s song “Come Home” and she asked Tedder to write a similar song for her. Subsequently, he hurt his heel and had to get surgery to fix it.

Exclusive: One notable title up for sale we’re hearing about at the European Film Market is Timothy Scott Bogart’s pop Romeo & Juliet musical, Verona starring Clara Rugaard, Jamie Ward, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Jason Isaacs and Derek Jacobi.
Verona will be the first film in a original pop musical trilogy based around the real-life 1301 story that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A wide theatrical releaser this Christmas is being planned.
Bogart tells us, “We’ve set out to tell the greatest love story of all time, set to the musical pulse of our time. But Shakespeare only told part of that remarkable tale whose events changed the course of history!”
Voltage is handling international sales on Verona.
Bogart recently directed the 1970s-1980s set feature Spinning Gold about his record label exec father Neil Bogart’s rise and fall with Casablanca Records. That pic is coming out on March 31 in theaters.

Mila Kunis, Debra Messing and other entertainment industry figures are among those who have sent an open letter to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, asking that the controversial book and documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America be removed from their platforms.
The nonprofit organization Creative Community for Peace was behind the letter, claiming both Amazon and B&n allegedly “refused to remove the title and continue to profit from its bigotry.”
Kunis, Messing, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik and songwriter Diane Warren were among 200 signatories to the letter. It was addressed to “Jeff Bezos, James Daunt, and the leaders at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.”
The protest comes in the wake of NBA star Kyrie Irving promoting the film with a tweet, then refusing to give an adequate apology. He was then suspended by the Brooklyn Nets and was ordered by the Brooklyn Nets to meet with various groups to make things right.

“Spinning Gold” director Timothy Scott Bogart has set up his next projects on the heels of his musical biopic about his father, Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart.
Bogart will produce the semi-autobiographical feature “North Star” from Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan, which tells the story of the director’s early life in Northern Ireland. U2 musicians Bono and The Edge are in discussions to compose original music for the film, Variety can reveal.
Meanwhile, Bogart will also write and direct the modern pop-music driven, 1191-set “Marian,” which charts the love story of Robin Hood and Maid Marian, with music from Grammy-winning songwriter Evan Bogart.
“North Star” will be directed by Sheridan. The story will center on his family and growing up in the tumultuous times of 1960s Ireland. Bono and lead guitarist The Edge are in talks to write and perform the original song, “North Star,” in addition to collaborating on the score.

The story of Casablanca Records has been told by many — in books, articles and by the larger-than-life characters who lived through the salad days of mid- to late-1970s rock and disco music. Its ascent as a hit factory — home to Kiss, Donna Summer, the Village People and Parliament Funkadelic — was short and swift and substantial.
Founded in 1974 by Neil Bogart, who’d had limited success as a record man at Buddha Records, a sublabel of MGM which had signed Gladys Knight and the Pips and the Ohio Express, Casablanca had the reputation of a place of excess. Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll was the mantra of the day, and certainly so for the record company that contributed the first smash extended single to clubs and radio stations all over the world — Summer’s 17-minute “Love to Love You,” produced by Giorgio Moroder and first released in 1975.

Beyonce kicked off Monday’s public memorial for Kobe Bryant with an emotional medley of her songs “Xo” and “Halo.”
“I’m here because I love Kobe, and this is one of his favorite songs,” she said before launching into a special rendition of “Xo.” She was accompanied by singers and a string quartet, and wore a gold pantsuit.
“I want to start that over,” Beyonce continued. “But I want us to do it all together, and I want you to sing it so loud that he hears your love.”
After the performance, the announcer at Staples Center praised Beyonce for “expressing her love [for Bryant] so beautifully.”
The two songs are similar in feel and theme — and indeed, both were cowritten by Beyonce and Onerepublic frontman Ryan Tedder. “Xo” is featured on Beyonce’s self-titled 2013 album and was cowritten by the pair with Terius “The-Dream” Nash, while “Halo” comes from her 2009 album “I Am…...

In case you missed it, Madonna pulled off a holiday surprise late Friday night and released six new singles from her upcoming album "Rebel Heart." This was in response to the entire album being leaked by hackers on Wednesday, Dec. 17. And, earlier in December, three other unfinished tracks found their way onto the net. In truth, those were unfinished demo tracks, but it forced Madonna and her label into action in what can only be described as a "partial Beyonce." No, the entire album with accompanying music videos wasn't released out of the blue, but six "finished" tracks were and, in some corners, the internet exploded. Unlike Madonna's previous albums, these tracks immediately made an impact on iTunes. Within 12 hours it was the no. 1 album in the Us and in 40 other countries. And, late Sunday night, it was still no. 1. Now naysayers can say it was a busy holiday weekend...

Los Angeles — Music fans who turned out to Bmi's annual pre-Grammy Awards "How I Wrote That Song" discussion got a little more than they expected thanks to Snoop Dogg – a contact high.
The rapper smoked marijuana during Saturday's panel discussion, lighting up a large, Kush-filled blunt on stage at The Roxy. He briefly passed it off to B.o.B before methodically reducing it to ash over a 15-minute period. The panel also included Busta Rhymes and songwriters Luke Laird and Evan Bogart, all of whom abstained – at least on stage.
Fittingly, the conversation eventually turned to Snoop's groundbreaking work on "The Chronic."
Laird recalled growing up at the end of a dirt road 10 miles outside Conneaut Lake, a small town of 700 in rural Pennsylvania. Yet Snoop's work with Dr. Dre still infiltrated his world and that of all the other country kids around him.

The rumors have been swirling since the day after her shocking "American Idol" exit back in April, but Pia Toscano has officially been signed to Interscope Records. "This Time" was written by hitmaker Esther Dean, who is responsible for Rihanna's hit singles "S&M," "Rude Boy" and "What's My Name." HollywoodNews.com: Former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi returns to tube as a TV music competition judge May 30 — but on a brand-new show, Bravo’s “Platinum Hit.” She tells us she didn’t think she’d be back “so fast, but I really loved the idea that songwriters were going to get some attention.”
Songwriter Evan Bogart (whose credits include Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Rihanna)” is one of the executive producers and creators of the show, she relates, and “he came to me about it. I thought a songwriting show would be interesting, but how do you do it?”
Good question. Watching contestants noodle around on a piano and scribble down ideas doesn’t sound like much of a show. But that’s not what “Platinum Hit” is like, assures DioGuardi, who toplines with Jewel. “Bravo is really great at creating drama and character development. Part of what makes great...

Despite the presumed dominance of the many high-profile album releases over the last few months (Britney, J,Lo, the Beastie Boys, etc.), the biggest-selling star is British powerhouse Adele, whose sophomore album "21" just snagged the #1 spot on the Billboard albums chart for the seventh week since its release.
Adele fans aren't surprised, given the album's rave reviews and the chart-climbing single "Rolling in the Deep," but the fact that the somewhat lesser-known U.K. import has basically defeated pop-music royalty has raised a few eyebrows.
One man who couldn't be more excited about the new crop of album sellers is songwriter/producer Evan Bogart. When MTV news caught up with him recently to discuss one of his many projects — he's an executive producer on the upcoming Bravo songwriting contest "Platinum Hit," which premieres May 30 — we got sidetracked with a conversation about the state of pop music and current chart-toppers.

Pia Toscano has broken her silence in a recent interview with MTV regarding rumor suggesting that she's in talks to sign a deal with Interscope Records. The latest outcast of "American Idol" season 10 said, "I've been so busy that I haven't met with anybody right now."
In a vague answer, the 22-year-old New Yorker stated, "I really don't - I don't know yet what's going on with that. Hopefully, good things." She added, "I'm looking forward to any opportunities that are to come but I'm really just focused on the [upcoming 'Idol'] tour right now and getting some much needed rest that I haven't gotten."
Although she might have not sealed a record deal, Pia has already had a bunch of names in her bucket of collaborator wish list. "I would love to do a duet with Alicia Keys, Christina [Aguilera], people that I've looked up to," she revealed. "Jay-z would be cool.

Now that America is adjusting to the idea that they failed to vote onetime "American Idol" favorite Pia Toscano through to the next round of competition, it's time to figure out what the lovely balladeer will do next.
MTV News' intrepid "Idol" expert Jim Cantiello was lucky enough to steal a few minutes with Toscano on Monday afternoon (April 11), when he tried to get the scoop on the singer's next move, namely, what's with all the talk about signing with a label?
"I've been so busy that I haven't met with anybody right now," Toscano said. "Seriously," she added. "I'm looking forward to any opportunities that are to come but I'm really just focused on the...

Rising singer Ashlyne Huff's first foray into the dance/pop arena may be dubbed "White Flag," but according to the songstress, the track is not about giving up, but rather giving in — to awesomeness.
The Nashville newcomer recently broke down the concept of the peppy, synth-driven jam — which just hit radio airwaves — to MTV News and explained that the single has nothing to do with relinquishing control, but rather trying out something new.
"My first single's called 'White Flag,' and most people are like, 'Oh, what are you surrendering?' I'm like, 'Nothing, really, besides my heart.' I wrote it about something that actually drew from some life experience," she said. "Some guy, like, likes you,...

Kara DioGuardi has pretty much nothing to say about her time on American Idol — abrupt departure included — because she’s saving all the good stuff for an upcoming memoir.
Appearing at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday to talk up her and Jewel’s summertime Bravo series, Platinum Hit, Kara was almost immediately presented with a question relating to her Idol experience. But rather brusquely, she deflected the inquiry.
“I’m happy to address that with you privately,” she told the inquiring reporter, “but today I’m really here for Platinum Hit.”
