Although the current state of the "Scream" franchise is a giant mess, it's worth remembering that merely a few years ago, its future seemed as bright as ever. 2022's "Scream" was a clear-cut hit at the box office, and it successfully introduced a whole new generation of characters who could be chased around with a knife for many installments to come. "Scream 5" not only did all this while keeping Sidney and Gale in the fold, but it also set the groundwork for the return of Kirby (Hayden Panettiere).
Despite being a fan favorite in "Scream 4," Kirby was tragically left for dead near the end of the movie. How'd she die? Well, she made the tragic mistake of trusting her potential love interest Charlie (Rory Culkin), trying to save him from Ghostface when she should've been saving herself. The good news is that Kirby was soon avenged by her supportive,...

We still have no idea what’s going on with Scream 7, if anything at all, but the near future of the film franchise is definitely hanging in the balance at this moment in time.
Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are no longer starring and Christopher Landon is no longer directing, while Neve Campbell is waiting on the “right circumstances” to return.
It’s safe to say the “core four” – Barrera, Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown & Mason Gooding – is no more, but will the “core two” (Savoy Brown & Gooding) return in Scream 7?
Speaking with Variety this week, Mason Gooding – who plays Chad Meeks-Martin, the nephew of Jamie Kennedy’s Randy Meeks – shared his thoughts on the franchise’s future.
“If it could make money, I guarantee you, they’ll make it,” Gooding says. “It’s one of those things where you wait to hear from the people that make the big decisions.

So, it turns out Jenna Ortega’s close call with quitting acting because of her soccer passion wasn’t common knowledge among her Scream 6 buddies. In a previous How Well They Know Each Other game, co-stars Jasmin Savoy Brown, Melissa Barrera, and Mason Gooding couldn’t quite guess why she almost left acting.

What the hell is going on with Scream 7? It’s impossible to know at this point in time, but it seems any and all original plans for the franchise’s next installment have been scrapped.

The Scream franchise began in 1996, with the slasher film series accruing a diehard fan base that lobbied for more movies after Scream 4's underwhelming box office performance led to the cancellation of its sequels.
Fans got their wish with 2022's successful outing that featured a mix of old and new cast members to tell a killer new tale.
Twenty-twenty-three's New York-set Scream 6 managed to do the impossible by surviving -- and thriving! -- without series star Neve Campbell.
That flick proved that the venerable title wasn't opposed to revamping the narrative.
Armed with a cast headlined by Melissa Barerra and Jenna Ortega, Scream 6 became the biggest entry yet, leading to a swift announcement for a seventh film in the franchise.
At the time, the series seemed destined to continue with Barrera and Ortega's Sam and Tara Carpenter as the final girls, and we expected that we'd finally meet their mother,...

Classic rockers Foghat have announced their first album in seven years. The 12-song LP, Sonic Mojo, will be released November 10th, and features the first single, “Drivin’ On.”
The new album includes three songs co-written by late Savoy Brown singer-guitarist Kim Simmonds, who passed away in December 2022. One of those songs is the aforementioned single, “Drivin’ On.”
“A song like ‘Drivin’ On’ celebrates the swamp funk blues of Slim Harpo and the cosmic boogie of John Lee Hooker,” said Foghat singer-guitarist Scott Holt in a press release.
Drummer Roger Earl, the lone original member left in Foghat, spoke of recording with the band’s current lineup, declaring, “I love playing and working with this band. During my almost 60-year music career, I have had the honor of playing with some really great musicians. If The Beatles and Rolling Stones started the fire that set England’s music scene ablaze in the 1960s, then Pink Floyd carried the torch. They evolved into a legendary classic rock band, just as Paul McCartney predicted they would, but not without the help of some benevolent benefactors. Pink Floyd had a little help from McCartney and John Lennon, who partially financed the event where Floyd played its first major concert.
Pink Floyd headlined a concert that Paul McCartney and John Lennon helped finance
The earliest Pink Floyd gigs were either groundbreaking experiences or forgettable performances, depending on who you asked. The band’s drummer Nick Mason said their early concerts were mostly rubbish, but music fans in swinging London’s psychedelic underground couldn’t get enough of them.

[This story contains major spoilers from the second episode in Yellowjackets‘ season two, “Edible Complex.”]
The Yellowjackets stars who play the teen cast on the hit Showtime series have had to do some dark things out in the wilderness. But many of them weren’t quite prepared for the reactions they would have when filming the shocking feast scenes in the second episode of season two.
“I have a pretty tough stomach, and we’ve done some weird things on the show, but I will say this season got me,” says Courtney Eaton, who plays young Lottie. “I almost threw up on set one of the days we were eating Jackie.”
And, she’s not the only one.
The second episode, titled “Edible Complex,” brought the show’s cannibalism storyline to fruition when the Yellowjackets survivors, who have been stranded since their plane crash in the show’s 1996 timeline, ate the body of their dead teammate Jackie (played by Ella Purnell). Ever since the Yellowjackets pilot premiered, bookended by nightmarish sequences of its central characters ritualistically hunting and eating one of their own soccer teammates, a central question has hung over the show: when and why the hell did these seemingly ordinary teenage girls descend into gruesome cannibalism?

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett got back behind the camera for Scream VI, which is in theaters now.

Bloody Disgusting spoke with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett about the new movie’s many Easter Eggs, and they revealed some unexpected Scream VI cameos in the process.
When asked about deep-cut Easter Eggs that might be tough to spot on an initial watch, Bettinelli-Olpin revealed one that didn’t even make it to the screen.

The Scream saga continues with Scream VI when the four survivors of last year’s film leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. Two of those survivors being the Meeks-Martin twins, Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding).
While 2022’s Scream introduced the siblings as the niece and nephew of the franchise’s resident cinephile Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy), Scream VI further establishes their identities and relationships. In other words, we’ll get to know Mindy and Chad a bit more this time around.
Ahead of Scream VI‘s theatrical release on March 10, 2023, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Savoy Brown and Gooding about seeing new sides to their characters and whether the success of the previous entry had any effect on their experience this time. The chat also revealed Savoy Brown as a quick-witted ad-libber who kept fellow cast members on their toes.

Last year’s Scream delivered a “requel” that introduced a new generation of killers and survivors while celebrating Wes Craven and the franchise’s legacy. Much like Scream 2, Scream VI arrives a full year later and expands upon its characters and themes in thrilling ways as the surviving Woodsboro players relocate to college in NYC.
With introductions now in the rearview, this slasher sequel lets a ruthless Ghostface loose in the city, slicing up an intense, flawless entry that continues the streak of insightful introspection while escalating the thrills, kills, humor, and heart to a breathless degree.
It’s only been a year since Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) survived their near-fatal encounter with Ghostface. Sam struggles with the lingering trauma and paranoia, not to mention her potential for inherited madness, while the remaining Woodsboro survivors attempt to return to normality.

New York, new rules. As a born and bred New Yorker, I can't help but love that new "Scream 6" tagline, or its new location. Audiences get even more of a terrifying look into what the film has in store for us — fire escapes, bodegas, and all — in the latest trailer.
A new one-minute TV spot for the Super Bowl this weekend premiered via the movie's YouTube channel a bit early, and this one is really a doozy. Short but sinister, we get some time with our characters—ones you now know well from the last installment, like Melissa Barrera's Sam and Jasmin Savoy Brown's Mindy—as they try to cross from building to building by putting a metal ladder from window to window on a high-up floor. Naturally, that endeavor seems, and is, perilous on its own, even without Ghostface hot on their trail. And make no mistake,...

Last year's "Scream" breathed new life into the long-running horror franchise, even as it took the lives of numerous characters in accordance with teen slasher tradition. Though it did bring back legacy faces like Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette), it was the first "Scream" movie to be made without the involvement of Wes Craven, who directed the first four films but passed away in 2015.
Reviving Ghostface for a fifth round of meta-horror fun initially seemed like a dicey prospect (if you'll forgive the knife-edged pun), given that Craven was no longer with us and MTV and VH1 had somewhat diluted the "Scream" brand in the intervening years since "Scream 4." However, one key crew member who remained with the franchise was original screenwriter and series creator Kevin Williamson, who took on an executive producer role and will do so again for "Scream VI....

Kim Simmonds, leader of the last post-Beatles wave of British blues bands with Savoy Brown, has died at the age of 75, the band announced.
Simmonds died Tuesday, the band announced on Facebook on Thursday. The group had been together for more than 55 years.
Simmonds had been battling stage 4 signet cell colon cancer, a very rare form that accounts for no more than 1 of cases.
Savoy Brown was in the late ’60s British Invasion blues rock surge. Mixing originals with American blues standards, the band was a rotating cast of musicians, with Simmonds at its core.
Simmonds, originally from Wales, eventually became a solo artist supported by a backup band of the moment. He moved to the US 30 years ago and settled in upstate New York.

The hot Gen Z trend this spring was BeReal, the social media app that prompts users to share a daily photo of what they’re doing the moment an alert goes off at an unexpected time — and once again, Hollywood was left standing outside the digital velvet rope.
There are myriad reasons TV and movie publicity departments can’t crack the app that bends over backward to promote “authenticity,” the very antithesis of highly manufactured film and TV campaigns. And while the savvy digital-marketing squad at Paramount found a clever way to get “Scream 6” some traction on its BeReal account, most studios aren’t ready to mess with a platform bent on filtering out staged social media.
