More than a dozen of music’s biggest stars, from Beyoncé to H.E.R., would love an Emmy to add to their award shelves.
A Variety review of the 535 entries throughout the Television Academy’s seven music categories reveals a surprising number of A-list singers, songwriters and music directors apparently eager for TV’s top honor. Among them:
H.E.R. (with Josiah Bassey) is entered for original song for “Hold Us Together” from the Disney Plus movie “Safety.” She won the Oscar earlier this year and already has four Grammys, so an Emmy win would put her three-fourths of the way to a fabled Egot. Beyoncé is entered for music direction and original song (both with Derek Dixie) for “Black Is King,” her musical film companion to “The Lion King” (also on Disney Plus). The song “Black Parade” won her a Grammy earlier this year for best R&b performance.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is marking the big 3-0! In this Sunday’s episode (NBC, 9/8c), the titular gal (reluctantly) celebrates her birthday while also sorting out her feelings for the men in her life.

Sony Pictures Television will comb through Wattpad’s 500 million stories for the next potential breakout entertainment property.
Spt entered into a co-production deal with Wattpad for original TV programming, giving Sony a first look at new Wattpad stories. The companies plan to work together to identify and develop popular stories shared on Wattpad platform. The deal, announced Wednesday, will be overseen by Eric Lehrman, Wattpad’s head of content development and production.
According to Wattpad, 70 million monthly users engage with stories across all genres — generating billions of data points daily about fan interactions. Wattpad has created what it calls Story DNA Machine Learning technology to identify new intellectual property and storytellers that have the most potential. The Spt agreement covers original stories, not fan fiction, according to Wattpad.
The deal’s announcement follows news last month that Sony Pictures Television, Wattpad and Greg Silverman’s Stampede are developing “Death Is My Bff” for Syfy.

Kumble previously tried to bring “Cruel Intentions” to TV with a series called “Manchester Prep.” It was scrapped by Fox prior to the airing of the first episode in 1999, due to scenes that included female masturbation amongst other things.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has reportedly been approached to reprise the role of Kathryn Merteuil, which she played in 1999's "Cruel Intentions," in the upcoming NBC sequel series based on the film.
NBC ordered the TV pilot last week with the film's original director Roger Kumble coming back to direct and pen the script with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross. Whether Gellar accepts the role is uncertain but she is reportedly reading the script now.
The story picks up fifteen years on and follows Bash Casey, the son of Seabstian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) who leaves behind his small-town Kansas upbringing for a scholarship at the prestigious academy in modern-day San Francisco.

The team behind "Cruel Intentions: The Musical" and "The Unauthorized O.C. Musical" have announced plans for the same treatment to be given to beloved TV modern classic "Friday Night Lights".
"The Unauthorized 'Friday Night Lights' Musical" is set for a premiere next year and one of the show's original stars, Scott Porter, has signed on to play a role.
Porter played Jason Street in the series, but in the musical he'll take on the role of Coach Taylor whom Kyle Chandler played in the NBC & DirecTV series. Also onboard from two of the previous musicals is Molly McCook who plays high school student Tyra.
Lindsey Rosin, one of the co-creators of the musical, says she and her producing partner Jordan Ross recently got the legal go-ahead to proceed. Further details about the run have yet to be announced.

Friday Night Lights is one of my favorite TV dramas ever, and I’ve been hoping that we’d get a movie made. I seriously doubt that’s ever going to happen at this point. You know what is happening, though!? The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical!
This is a stage musical that is being created by writers Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, who also created The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions and The Unauthorized O.C. Musical.
They made the announcement on Twitter saying that it will be coming to Los Angeles in 2016. This will be a one-night affair and Scott Porter, who played Jason Street in the TV series, will be playing Coach Taylor in the musical, which I have to admit is pretty damn awesome.
I think I’ll actually make an effort to get tickets to this thing! It sounds like it will be fun.

Let's all sing it together: Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. Especially when someone is making a "Friday Night Lights" musical.
"The Unauthorized Friday Night Lights Musical" is set to premiere in late spring or early summer in Los Angeles, and comes from Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, the same people behind musical versions of "The O.C." and "Cruel Intentions." The latter got so much buzz that Ross and Rosin landed a deal at NBC to develop a "Cruel Intentions" sequel for television.
The original "Friday Night Lights" ran for five seasons, first on NBC and then on DirecTV, and starred Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor and Connie Britton as his wife, Tami Taylor. While the show was lowly-rated on air, it's become a beloved classic thanks to streaming services. And it helped launch the careers of many of its young cast members.
