Art the Clown is making his return to theaters nationwide with Terrifier 3 on October 11, 2024, and Bloody Disgusting can confirm that a horror legend has joined the slasher sequel.
Makeup effects master Tom Savini will be making an appearance in director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting are bringing to the big screen!
Tom Savini’s work has long been a huge source of inspiration for Leone, whose Terrifier movies are of course loaded with the kind of practical effects-driven brutality that Savini helped pioneer. From the very first arrival of Jason Voorhees on screen in the original Friday the 13th to the splatter effects in horror classics including Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, Savini is one of the all-time great masters in the world of special makeup effects, elevating the art of horror movie gore and paving the way for all...

Popcorn buckets are all the rage right now with several sparking controversy, including this gem for Dune: Part Two. Studios continue to push the envelope with rumors that the bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine will be nothing short of “intentionally crude and lewd,” teased Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. But what about horror?
Horror fans hope to see a Terrifier popcorn bucket available in theaters nationwide when Terrifier 3 releases this fall. Over the weekend, a hardcore fan launched a petition to raise awareness for a potential Terrifier 3 popcorn bucket. I immediately fantasized about eating pink popcorn out of Art the Clown’s head.
What would you want to see out of a Terrifier popcorn bucket? Damien Leone and Phil Falcone’s third film is Christmas-themed so I’m sure there’s no shortage of cool ideas.

Variety reports that our friends at Cineverse’s Bloody Disgusting are expanding their multimedia horror brand with a new publishing imprint called Bloody Press – and among the first projects on the Bloody Press agenda are novelizations of the films Terrifier, Terrifier 2, and Terrifier 3. The Cineverse Podcast Network, which has a Bloody FM podcast banner, will also be launching a new podcast that’s dedicated to the Terrifier franchise.
Beyond the realm of Art the Clown, Cineverse will also be producing a new scripted audio series called Dead Space: Deep Cover, “which will follow a journalist searching for her missing sister who joined a Unitologist church.” That show is a collaboration with Electronic Arts.
Bloody Press will be publishing the Terrifier 2 novelization first – which makes sense, because the movie was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office on a budget of $250,000. Written by Tim Waggoner,...

Exclusive: As its stock price continues to languish, Cinedigm is following through on its stated plan to rebrand the company, emerging with the new name Cineverse in a bid to convey a long-under-way pivot to streaming.
A decade ago, Cineverse was primarily known as a purveyor of cinema equipment and technology. Under CEO Chris McGurk, the former MGM, Universal and Disney exec who took the helm in 2011, the company has steadily moved toward streaming. Today, it has a library of more than 60,000 film and TV titles and operates subscription and ad-supported services like flagship Cineverse as well as Fandor, the Dove Channel and CONtv.
“Today we officially turn the page to become Cineverse, a pure-play business in the exciting and dynamic streaming content and technology space,” McGurk said in the official announcement. Chief Strategy Officer and President Erick Opeka said it “made sense to consolidate our overall corporate identity under one brand.

In order to elevate Screambox, a streaming service for horror fans, Tom Owen, co-managing director of Bloody Disgusting for Cinedigm, focused on a decidedly retro inspiration.
“We like to make Screambox feel like the staff picks section of old video stores,” he said. “We have a really incredible team of people who are real, authentic horror fans that live and breathe horror movies. They all have different tastes, and there’s a huge range of types of movies, but there’s a service that’s a home for all of them.”
In 2022, a year notable for an influx of critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful scary movies, Screambox transitioned from a little-known app to a major horror player, thanks to a homicidal clown named Art.
“Terrifier 2,” the surprise indie box office hit which made over 10 million dollars in theaters with a 250,000 budget, was produced by Bloody Disgusting, the company and media outlet that manages Screambox.

For those outside the tight-knit circle of cryptocurrency devotees, the buzz around blockchain technology can feel like an impenetrable collection of technobabble — maybe nothing more than a passing fad. But early adopters of these decentralized data systems have long said blockchain is poised to change everything from finance to transportation and, yes, even entertainment.
Now, the potential of blockchain in the film industry has earned a major vote of confidence from one of Hollywood’s most influential families. The nonprofit Decentralized Pictures — co-founded by Roman Coppola, tech and entertainment veteran Leo Matchett, and American Zoetrope exec Michael Musante and led by a board that includes Sofia and Gia Coppola — plans to go live in the fall with a mission to discover and support underrepresented filmmakers using a blockchain-powered web platform.

Nearly a decade after fronting the launch of cable TV network El Rey, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is taking its operations into the streaming realm.
In a deal with Cinedigm, which operates a portfolio of targeted streaming offerings like the Bob Ross Channel, Fandor and the Dove Channel, El Rey will continue to have a 24-7 live presence. Distribution partners have not been announced, but targets will include smart-tv and connected-tv platforms and streaming outlets like Pluto and others offering bundles of free channels.
At the beginning of its new phase, the streaming outlet will be less widely available than when it was at its cable peak, when it reached 40 million U.S. households. Even so, backers say its rebooted future is brighter given the overall shift toward streaming. Many of El Rey’s advertising relationships and resources will carry over to the new setup, and Rodriguez is an established figure...

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has taken El Rey Network — once a linear cable TV channel — and revived the Latino-focused brand for the streaming era in partnership with Cinedigm.
Launched in 2013, El Rey Network at its peak reached over 40 million pay-tv households. The cable channel, stocked with a range of English-language scripted and unscripted programming catering to Latino audiences and beyond, shut down at the end of 2020.
In partnership with Cinedigm, El Rey Network will relaunch as a free-to-watch over-the-top streaming service available on platforms including connected TVs, digital set-top boxes, media-streaming devices and the web. In addition, Cinedigm will work with El Rey to ink deals with advertisers for custom content. Cinedigm also will exclusively distribute Rodriguez’s feature film “Red 11” and a companion docuseries, “Rebel Without A Crew: The Robert Rodriguez Film School,” to Ott platforms.
The date of the El Rey Network streaming channel launch has yet to be determined.

Cinedigm and Elvis Presley Enterprises said today they’re partnering to launch an exclusive ad-supported and linear streaming service, The Elvis Presley Channel with archival content, specials, and music from other influential rockers.
It’s expected to launch early in 2022 in the U.S. and Canada for linear and AVOD platforms on connected TVs, digital set-top boxes, media-streaming devices and the web. Cinedigm plans to distribute the programming across the broader Ott landscape through its network of distribution partners including Samsung, Pluto, Roku, Hulu, Amazon and Tubi.
“There are few individuals more iconic than Elvis Presley, he transcends time, genre and medium,” said Erick Opeka, President of Cinedigm Digital Networks. “The opportunity to build a branded channel around Elvis opens up streaming possibilities to an entirely new demographic in the fastest-growing segment of the ad-supported business. When Trevor Hawkins wanted to finance his debut feature, “Lotawana,” he did it the old-fashioned way; He took out a second mortgage. Now that the film is done, he’s taking a distinctly 21st-century approach by creating two types of non-fungible tokens, or NFTs: At $1,000 each, there’s 1,000 tokens that represent ownership shares that give profit participation as well as $100 tokens to access the movie’s online premiere.
“It was risky to make the movie itself,” he said Hawkins, a veteran director of commercials and shorts whose work has been featured by National Geographic. “When this came along, we felt it was a way to differentiate ourselves. This was a huge risk as well, but it feels right. We’re just a little bit ahead of the curve here … my personal opinion is that it’s here to stay.” Hawkins said that after 500 of the $1,000 shares are sold, the film...

Increasing demand for exclusive programming has streaming services looking to acquire studio content libraries to fill the need. Even as mega-streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ are unveiling major plans to produce original content, experts say demand is high to acquire studio libraries in what one entertainment executive called a “battle royale” to catch and hold subscribers. “When you just think of a very simple kind of economic supply-and-demand perspective, there’s a demand out there now because of streamers,” Curtis Vega, head of the global media and communications sector for the corporate banking division of Hsbc, told TheWrap. “Their finance is really either built by production, or it’s built by the library.” Erick Opeka, chef strategy officer and president of Cinedigm Networks, said studios navigating the streaming wars are becoming more protective of their library content than in the past. The search for exclusivity makes that content even more valuable.

Cinedigm is continuing its acquisition spree, acquiring the horror streaming service Screambox, TheWrap can exclusively report.
Screambox will continue to be offered on an ad-free subscription basis — the service costs $4.99 a month or $35.88 for the full year — and Cinedigm will use its horror channel that it has in partnership with Bloody Disgusting, to help drive additional subscribers. Screambox will also be bundled with Cinedigm’s fandom streaming service, CONtv.
Larry Baird, longtime Screambox chief operating officer, will remain on board to oversee the transition.
Cinedigm will leverage its substantial horror and thriller content library, app technology and Matchpoint distribution platform to rapidly expand Screambox’s content offering. It will relaunch the service’s apps and dramatically expand distribution to Cinedigm’s 900 million-plus global connected device footprint. Cinedigm also plans to expand the distribution of Screambox to its base of third-party subscription channel partners, including Roku, Comcast, SlingTV and Dish Network.

Cinedigm continues its rollup of niche streaming brands: The company has acquired the assets of Fandor, a subscription-streaming service with a catalog of 4,600 films that has been in hibernation mode for the last two years.
In late 2018, Fandor laid off nearly all of its employees and reorganized as a new entity that was seeking a buyer for the Fandor assets.
Terms of Cinedigm’s acquisition of Fandor aren’t being disclosed. In announcing the deal, Cinedigm said it believes the relaunched Fandor service could top 1 million subscribers “within the next 24-30 months” with a focus on rapid global expansion and distribution.

Fox Corp.’s Tubi is widening the streaming audience for The Joy of Painting, the hushed classic hosted by the late Bob Ross.
Thirty of 31 seasons, totaling almost 400 episodes, will be on Tubi by the end of the month. The first season of the show, which launched in 1983, is not part of the launch.
Cinedigm’s Docurama Channel, which is already on Tubi, will feature the Painting episodes. All 31 seasons of the show already are on YouTube, and Hulu and Amazon also have select seasons for subscription streaming. Cinedigm earlier this year created a Ross-branded streaming channel, which started out on Samsung smart-TVs.
In 1983, Ross and partners Annette and Walt Kowalski debuted Joy on public television, making 400-plus episodes through 1994. Standing before the camera in a locked-off shot, Ross takes viewers through the process of painting landscape scenes, describing his color choices and brush strokes in a calm, even and encouraging tone.
