The MCU’s The Fantastic Four has been going steadily, with the most recent casting being of Paul Walter Hauser. John Malkovich and Ralph Ineson also star in the film.

While he did not reveal who he was playing, the Richard Jewell star hinted at playing a prominent villain who was part of the mythology of the Fantastic Four. With the studio set to introduce Marvel’s first family Fantastic Four in the MCU, fans are revisiting the previous adaptations of the superhero team, including Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot boasting a stellar cast including Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell. There is no denying that the film has not been the best the superhero genre has to offer and fans have now noted one glaring flaw that further compounds its shortcomings.

The superhero team has always been defined as Marvel’s first family. However, the 2015 reboot film doesn’t seem too keen to follow the concept as two of the leading characters Susan Storm and The Thing hardly have a conversation in the movie.

Whether it’s the early 2000s or Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot, the live-action adaptation of Marvel’s first family, Fantastic Four, has always left fans disappointed. Despite boasting a prolific cast as Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, the 2015 reboot was highly criticized for its approach towards the story and the depiction of the characters, earning it a spot among the worst superhero films of all time.

And one of the things that both adaptations have struggled with is a proper portrayal of the supervillains in the Marvel universe, Doctor Doom, receiving criticism for the same. However, amidst the numerous flaws, fans are now revisiting one aspect of the film managed to get right.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four has lived through several iterations. In 1994, the first ambitious Fantastic Four life-action was made starring Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, and Jay Underwood, with Joseph Culp playing Doctor Doom. However, the movie was never released. While the Chris Evans-starrer Fantastic Four movie series was popular among fans, there was an attempt from Fox to reboot the franchise in 2015 with a roster of a talented cast.

Chris Evans played the role of Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America in the MCU. For almost a decade, the actor entertained fans with his unrelenting optimism and good-old heroism in films such as Captain America: The First Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. The actor departed from the role after the end of his character arc in Endgame.
While fans want Evans to return to his role for the upcoming Avengers 5, the actor seems to be done with the character for a while. However, he did not rule out the possibility of returning to the MCU as a whole, as he expressed his desire to play Johnny Storm again. The actor had previously played the role in Fox’s Fantastic Four, which starred Jessica Alba.

Joseph Quinn became a worldwide star overnight when he featured as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things. The British actor had been a part of shows such as Game of Thrones and BBC’s Howards End before he was cast as the Metallica-loving oddball in the Netflix series. Quinn was also cast as Johnny Storm a.k.a The Human Torch in the MCU’s upcoming The Fantastic Four. He would be sharing screen space with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Actress Kristen Dunst is all set to return to the big screen with Alex Garland’s dystopian war drama Civil War. The actress has been making the rounds on the Internet due to her honest and matter-of-fact tone of answering questions during the press tour, where she has been lauded for having these qualities that are rarely seen during interviews.
Dunst gained worldwide fame for her role as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. She shared screen space with Tobey Maguire, who played Peter Parker a.k.a Spider-Man in the acclaimed trilogy. While fans are excited for another Spider-Man film from Raimi and Maguire ever since their return to the MCU, Dunst reportedly opined that good things need to be left alone.

Superhero movies were nearing their maximalist peak in 2017 — "Avengers: Infinity War" was a year away, while the DC Extended Universe was self-destructively racing toward "Justice League" without a roadmap or significant audience buy-in — when James Mangold quietly, confidently subverted the genre with "Logan." There had been attempts at revisionist superhero films before, but they were mostly based on/influenced by explicitly revisionist graphic novels (e.g. Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy). Josh Trank's "Chronicle" was probably the boldest of the bunch, but that was a top-to-bottom original.
Mangold's "Logan" was different. It used Hugh Jackman, the man who'd been playing Wolverine for 17 years, to tell an X-Men tale that branched out from the film franchise's narrative to depict a Logan in physical decline. Nothing lasts forever — not even, apparently, Wolverine's mutant healing process. He is in unremitting pain, and each altercation plunges him deeper into agony.

Kirsten Dunst would’ve liked to have been part of Spider-Man: No Way Home had she been asked to reprise her role of Mary Jane Watson.
In a new interview, Dunst revealed she would have agreed to have been part of the MCU that saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their Pater Parker roles alongside current Spider-Man Tom Holland.
“No, no. I would have,” Dunst told British GQ after they asked if anyone had reached out to reprise her role.
Although Dunst says she has not seen the 2021 film directed by Jon Watts, she says it would’ve been interesting to see her Mary Jane and Maguire’s Peter Parker reuniting.
“It would be funny to be like, Ok, let’s take Tobey [Maguire] and I and do it in a weird indie way where it’s like a different kind of superhero film,” she said. “Like how they did that movie Chronicle.

/Film recently ranked the five live-action Fantastic Four films and came to the following daring conclusion: Oley Sassone's unreleased 1994 entry "The Fantastic Four" was the best. Many have seen this version of "The Fantastic Four" thanks to the wide circulation of bootleg copies, and it's been ridiculed in many cinematic circles for its low budget (it was made for only $1 million), its corny dialogue, and its aggressively bad special effects. But while the cheapness of Sassone's film is visibly evident -- it was overseen by B-movie elder stateman Roger Corman -- it does manage to capture the comic-operatic tone of the original 1960s comic books. It accurately understands the outsize nature of the characters.
For many years, the only way to see "The Fantastic Four" was through surreptitiously distributed VHS taps handed off between nerdy high school students. Thanks...

Marvel’s First Family is finally on its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four hitting screens in 2025. From the ashes of Tim Story’s two noughties movies and Josh Trank’s maligned Fantastic Four, here’s hoping it’s third time lucky for Reed Richards, Sue and Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm.
Boasting an all-star cast of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the team is up there with the arrival of the X-Men in terms of MCU hype. While recent MCU entries have faltered at the box office, Fantastic Four has the potential to go all the way. The question is, has Shakman learned from the mistakes of the past, or will this be another rinse-and-repeat introduction of the iconic superhero team?

Alongside the titular quartet, there are questions about who will be the big bad of Fantastic Four.

With multiple attempts to adapt Marvel’s first family for the big screen, the casual Valentine’s Day news drop of the casting for The Fantastic Four has fans buzzing. As the Fantastic Four finally get the MCU treatment, there is a natural excitement that the superhero team will get the faithful translation that fans have been waiting for. The casting announcement was made with a simple illustrated photo that features the likenesses of the cast actors in their respective roles in a very retro picture. This also led to speculation that the movie may take place in the 60s.

Fans are on cloud nine as the Fantastic Four will finally appear in the MCU. It comes after multiple failed tries to bring them to the big screen. Eventually, the film is scheduled to be released as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

Sony Pictures needs to head back to the drawing board with its Marvel universe because "Madame Web" crashed and burned in every way imaginable over the weekend. The studio's latest "Spider-Man" franchise spin-off film hit theaters on Valentine's Day against "Bob Marley: One Love." Conventional wisdom would tell you that the superhero movie would easily beat the middle-of-the-road music biopic. That's not what happened and, frankly, it wasn't even close.
"Madame Web" pulled in just $26.2 million across its first six days of release, counting from Wednesday through the Monday President's Day holiday. It made just $15.3 million over the weekend, coming in second to "One Love." The biopic pulled in a surprisingly large $28.6 million over the weekend and $52 million over its first six days, including a record-breaking opening day in Jamaica. Ben Grimm is mad. The ace pilot would do almost anything for his college pal Dr. Reed Richards, the super-genius who has designed an experimental rocket. But Ben worries about cosmic rays surrounding the planet and threatens to drop out of the project.
“Ben, we’ve got to take that chance,” interjects friend Sue Storm. “Unless we want the Commies to beat us to it.”
With that Ben takes up the mission. Because if there’s one thing that Benjamin J. Grimm hates, its Commies. Well, at least that’s what Ben hated in the 1960s. And so he joins Reed, Sue, and Sue’s brother Johnny on a trip into space, a trip that will expose them to cosmic rays, transforming Ben into the Thing, Reed into Mr. Fantastic, Sue into Invisible Girl, and Johnny into the Human Torch. Together, they will form the Fantastic Four.

The first "Fantastic Four" comic book was published in November 1961, although it wasn't until issue #3 that the comics regularly came emblazoned with the superlative declaration "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine!" No one protested. The goal of the Fantastic Four was to tap into the natural enormity of comic book superhero stories: These were larger-than-life characters going on cosmic adventures and doing battle with planet-eating alien demigods. The very bodies of the titular Four were reminiscent of the four elements: One was made of stone, one was made of fire, one had a liquid-like body, and one was invisible like air.
And yet, through the melodramatic opera of their adventures, the Fantastic Four had appealingly banal personal lives. Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman struggled to make their marriage work. The Human Torch and the Thing bickered constantly. The fact that the Human Torch was the Invisible Woman's brother only complicated matters.

Anime and manga live-action adaptations, especially English-language ones, have a mixed track record. For every "One Piece" and "Speed Racer," which manage to capture the endless imagination of the medium, there are thrice as many "Dragonball Evolution" and "Ghost in the Shell" bad movies that nearly ruin their source material.
One of the best ones is not really based on an anime or manga — though it is quite clear that "Akira" was a huge influence — Josh Trank and Max Landis' "Chronicle." The film is set in Seattle and follows three teens who acquire telekinetic powers. Soon enough, the fun and games turn dark and deadly when one of them begins to lose control and relish in their power. Aside from very direct visual references to Katsuhiro Otomo's iconic (and very influential) anime masterpiece, "Chronicle" manages to capture the quick and chaotic descent into madness and horror that plagues the...

Few Marvel characters are more qualified to traverse the space-time continuum — and tell a few meta jokes at its expense — than Deadpool. The Merc with a Mouth is notoriously averse to the constraints of reality, and that's just one of the many reasons why his big-screen adventures have been so much fun. Fox's "Deadpool" films have toyed with the anti-hero's wanton fourth wall breaking, nonlinear storytelling style, and affinity for time travel in delightfully irreverent fashion. It's allowed star and producer Ryan Reynolds the opportunity to poke fun at aspects of his career that fans have tried to forget, but it also gives audiences the chance to laugh at some of the silliest parts of the superhero industrial complex.
With the advent of Marvel's multiverse, Deadpool's exploits have only gotten more ambitious. Still, there are some choices too weird to make it to the final cut. The team behind the...

"Game of Thrones," "The Mandalorian," the DC Universe, "The Last of Us," and now Marvel: Pedro Pascal continues to establish himself as one of the preeminent franchise actors of the 21st century. After much speculation, wondering, fan-casting, and impatience, word has come out -- and /Film's sources can confirm -- that Pascal will be starring as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The news was initially reported by Daniel Rpk, but according to sources close to the project who spoke with /Film, Pascal has officially signed on the dotted line. In a galaxy far, far away, Guillermo del Toro might have once directed a Star Wars movie about Jabba the Hutt. In our galaxy, however, the project is one of many tantalizing features within the Star Wars universe that never came to fruition.
Speaking to Collider, the Oscar-winning filmmaker confirmed his potential Star Wars film was about the monstrous space gangster who made his first official appearance in “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”
“We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy,” del Toro said. “We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world.

The Fantastic Four franchise became very popular in the 2000s, starting with the 2005 movie Fantastic Four and its sequel, Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), starring Jessica Alba as Susan Storm, Chris Evans as Human Torch, Joan Gruffudd as Maker, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm. Interestingly, a previous Fantastic Four movie adaptation was released in 1994. While these quickly became cult classic movies, 2015’s Josh Trank reboot, Fantastic Four didn’t fare so well. Starring Hollywood favorites Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Jonny Storm/Human Torch, and Jamie Bell...

When asked about the most horrific time in their lives, many will shudder then say the years they spent in high school. The Secret Invasion Finale Is One Of The Worst-Reviewed Marvel Things Ever – What The Heck Happened?
Warning: This article contains spoilers and some pretty gruesome post-mortem details on what went wrong with "Secret Invasion."
The numbers are in, the hot takes have been pouring into social media, and the post-finale analysis of "Secret Invasion" can truly begin in earnest. As the smoke clears from this week's finale, which took the Marvel series that felt like most people weren't watching -- and even less were actually enjoying -- and finally put it out of its misery, the big picture is starting to come into focus. Needless to say, it's not exactly putting the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a flattering light, particularly on the heels of high-profile disappointments like "Thor: Love and Thunder" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." For the first time in well over a decade, the previously invulnerable MCU is looking mighty mortal these days.

The Fantastic Four, sometimes called the First Family of Marvel Comics, has had a troubled history when it comes to film adaptations. The 2015 version, directed by Josh Trank, was famously panned for its overly grim tone, nonsensical character changes, and toxic production environment. The 2005 outing was considered largely faithful to the source material but poorly written. But there was actually a Fantastic Four movie before either of those that nobody will ever see. It’s all due to the intricate world of entertainment law. Movie optioning rights are a complicated animal, to say the least. It’s one of the...

Although Marvel has made a fortune bringing their teams to life with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, two of their most popular teams have taken more time to realize in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to Fox owning the rights. Now that Disney has purchased Fox, it’s finally time for Marvel Studios to make the faithful adaptations for the two notable properties since the production company has effortlessly done so with their other characters in the past. The two properties are, of course, X-Men and Fantastic Four. Both have been adapted and re-adapted when 20th Century Fox held the rights.
Now that these teams are making like Spider-man and coming home, casting rumors are getting thrown around by fans in debates about which actors and actresses they want to see in these roles. Fantastic Four is one that people are ready to be rebooted after the...

The Marvel hero Spider-Man is a character that many actors have vied to play over the years. But if Miles Teller was given the chance back then, he would’ve much rather stuck with playing Mr. Fantastic in his Fantastic Four feature.
Why Miles Teller preferred the Fantastic Four over Spider-Man Miles Teller | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Teller had the opportunity to portray Reed Richards in the 2015 film Fantastic Four. His co-stars at the time included Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan rounding out the rest of the Marvel family. According to Teller, the film’s director Josh Trank really had to push for the young cast.
“I tested for the role of Reed Richards. I think I’m the only person that did. But absolutely it took a lot of convincing for me with Reed Richards. I know Josh really had to…and Josh did for all the characters,...

The next “Star Wars” movie, to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chino, has lost its screenwriters. TheWrap has confirmed that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson (“Counterpart”) have left the untitled, unannounced project.

While details are still being kept under wraps, it was thought to be far enough along that Disney and Lucasfilm would announce the project at Star Wars Celebration next month in London. If the project ends up getting made, it will be the first “Star...

As Kevin Feige confides that he has big plans for Peter Parker in the MCU, the studio head also says that the Fantastic Four will be a big pillar of the universe going forward, according to Deadline.

Michael B. Jordan has gone from child star to teenage heartthrob to Hollywood heavyweight before our eyes. An immensely talented actor who had his breakthrough in 2013's "Fruitvale Station," Jordan is one of the most in-demand actors working today. A favorite among cinephiles, Jordan has been recognized by critics groups around the world; he also received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his turn as the unrelenting yet sympathetic villain Killmonger in "Black Panther," which he shared with the rest of the film's cast.
But Jordan does more than just act. He produced 2019's "Just Mercy," and he's set to make his directorial debut with 2023's "Creed III." In fact, his turn as Apollo Creed's son, Donnie, helped solidify him as a bonafide star — we can't wait to see what he does behind the camera. Before "Creed III" hits theaters, here are the 12 best Michael B. Jordan movies, ranked from worst to best.

Film fans love to speculate on what canceled movie productions would have become. What would it have been like to see Steven Spielberg's science fiction epic "Robopocalypse," Quentin Tarantino's Vega Brothers movie, Stanley Kubrick's ambitious "Napoleon" biopic, or Alejandro Jodorowsky's "Dune" adaptation? Would they be everything fans imagined them to be? Or crushing disappointments? While it's fun to speculate, we can't put our faith into something that doesn't exist. Likely, these films wouldn't have lived up to fans' massive expectations.

Kathrine Narducci Reteaming With Robert De Niro & Barry Levinson For Warner Bros Mob Pic ‘Wise Guys’
Exclusive: Kathrine Narducci will be working again, not just with Robert De Niro, but also filmmaker Barry Levinson, in the latter’s mob pic Wise Guys at Warner Bros.
Wise Guys is a period piece that follows the story of Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans running two separate crime families during the mid-20th century. Genovese tried and failed to assassinate Costello in 1957, though the latter wound up taking his leave from the mob after being injured during the attempt on his life. De Niro is reportedly playing both roles. Narducci will play Anna Genovese who is the wife of De Niro’s Vito character. Deadline first told you that Debra Messing is in talks to play Bobbie, the wife of De Niro’s Costello character.

What is it about Fantastic Four that’s made it such a cursed property as far as movies go? In this episode of Marvel Revisited, we dig into 2005’s Fantastic Four, which was 20th Century Fox’s attempt to spawn another superhero saga that could complement their X-Men movies. While a big enough financial hit to merit a sequel, in hindsight, many consider this to be the nadir of superhero movies. Hilariously, it’s one of several bad Fantastic Four movies, with Roger Corman infamously making an unreleased version in the nineties that was so bad it’s never gotten a legitimate release. Then, of course, there was Josh Trank’s “gritty” version from 2015, which torpedoed a few careers. To many, 2005’s Fantastic Four is considered the worst of the bunch, but what exactly went wrong?
Indeed, the thing people remember most about the movie is the cast, which isn’t all that bad.
