For many playwrights, film and television work has historically served as a supplement to their income from the theater world. But in recent years, writers say, studios have begun to poke holes in that safety net, leaving some stage scribes as frustrated and angry as their screenwriting colleagues.
“TV really seemed like a way to have more stability, to be able to just have a middle-class life doing the thing I love, get health insurance, support my family,” 72 miles to go … playwright Hilary Bettis said Wednesday outside Netflix’s Union Square offices in New York. “And now it feels like the rug is being pulled out from under us.”

Back in December of 2020, it was announced that HBO was in the early development stages on a reboot of True Blood, a show that previously ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014. In December of 2021, we heard that HBO was also in the early stages of development on a follow-up to the series Six Feet Under, which ran for five seasons, from 2001 to 2005. But now HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys has confirmed to Variety that neither of those revivals are moving forward.
Here’s what Variety reported (after sharing a quote where Bloys indicated that there’s nothing currently going on with the Watchmen property): Also not in the cards are the rumored “Six Feet Under” revival, which Bloys said was never really in the works. A return to “True Blood” was considered, with HBO developing a few scripts, “but nothing that felt like it got there.

HBO has renewed banking drama series Industry for a third season.
Created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay and produced in the UK by Bad Wolf, Industry gives an insider’s view of the blackbox of high finance following a group of young bankers as they forge their identities within the pressure cooker environment and sex and drug fueled blitz of international bank Pierpoint & Co’s London office.
In Season 2, the grads are no longer allowed to hide behind their graduate status. The market is ripping, and Pierpoint’s back to work or else mandate has the trading floor more charged up and paranoid than ever. New U.S. management will be gasoline on the flames – an injection of cross Atlantic energy that lights a fire under each and every employee. Now Harper (Myha’la Herrold), Yasmin (Marisa Abela) and Robert (Harry Lawtey) must drive new business and make new alliances...

Another legacy series could be returning to HBO.
Variety is reporting that a follow-up to Six Feet Under is in development.
The outlet stresses that the potential project is in "very early development."
Projects in development are not guaranteed to get a pilot, never mind a series order, so there's no telling how this might shake out.
Also, no plot details have been revealed, and it is not currently known if it will include any of the original stars.
The TV industry is obsessed with bringing projects from the past back as reboots, revivals, or a mixture of the two.
Some are successful, but the vast majority fail to garner much traction.
Six Feet Under came from Alan Ball, and the cast included Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, Frances Conroy, Lauren Ambrose, Freddy Rodriguez, Mathew St. Patrick, and Rachel Griffiths.

Vic McQueen discovers that she’s pregnant, putting a damper on her attempts to escape Haverhill and her old life. Bing Partridge is on the run from the cops, Manx’s partner in crime now left without a boss and with the authorities nipping at his heels. If the show stopped there, there’d be hanging threads, but there was confidence enough that evil was stopped, until it’s shown that a well-meaning mechanic bought the burnt hulk of the Wraith and has started to lovingly restore Charlie Manx’s murder-mobile. With a little help from Bing, Manx’s Wraith is back in action and Manx himself is able to staple himself together and get back to his evil ways.

The first season of NOS4A2 ended with ambiguity. Charlie Manx is left injured and brain-dead, permanently trapped in the hospital. NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 10
For all the flack Game of Thrones gets for the way it ended, one of the things that the show always did that I appreciated was they didn’t save the big crazy finale for the last episode of the season. The ninth episode of the season always had the big shocking moments, and the tenth episode explored more of the after-effects of the big event and set the pace for the next season. “Bats” doesn’t quite do the same thing, but considering the bulk of the episode of NOS4A2 is more concerned with what happens after the escape from Christmasland and the aftermath of Charlie Manx, it’s pretty close.
It’s pretty clear early on in “Bats” that Charlie Manx isn’t doing so good. Every explosion in his Inscape racks his physical body with pain, every smashed window...

NOS4A2 continues to be one of the best dramas on all of television.
The series recently said goodbye to another beloved series regular to prepare fans for the conclusion of NOS4A2 Season 2.
We got to chat with Joe Hill about some of the challenges of bringing the show from book to screen, the future of the series, and so much more.
TV Fanatic: How challenging was it for you to make changes to the characters that you created for the series?
Joe Hill: Well, actually, I'm not sure that the characters had changed that much. Also, remember that I didn't have to make the changes.
The show has been masterminded by Jami O'Brien working with their fruit first, Tom Brady, and a great writer's room.
She's got a killer's row in the writers room. And I would say that one thing that's very true of the show is that the...

The following contains spoilers for NOS4A2 season 2 episode 7.
Despite having significant experience in the world of television, NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien, like the rest of us, isn’t quite sure where the industry is going to go. She’s as in the dark as anyone during the time of Covid-19 and a growing rift between online streaming services and traditional cable and broadcast television. However, rather than being intimidated, she’s game for the challenge.
“Every day it changes and I think it’s still changing. It may change again into something that we have no idea about, you know what I mean? But all that said, I mean any opportunity to make something, I embrace,” O’Brien told Den of Geek during a San Diego Comic-Con At Home interview.
That game-for-anything mentality is certainly on display when considering her accomplishments as a writer and producer on cult favorites like Flesh and Bone,...

NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 7
In our recent interview with NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien, she addresses something very surprising. There are people online who have bought into the lies of Charlie Manx. He claims he’s saving children from bad situations, and there are people who say, “Yes, that sounds right,” and look no further than that. Hopefully, his actions in the second season are enough to put fire to those particular lies, but that doesn’t mean Manx isn’t still a character with more dimensions than first suspected. Oh no, while up on “Cripple Creek,” Bing learns all about the roots of Charlie Manx’s psychosis and just how he became the undead, life-stealing presence who rides around in a Rolls-Royce kidnapping children.
As it turns out, leading children to a dark fate is something of a long-standing Charlie Manx tradition.

NOS4A2 continues to be one of the best dramas on TV in its second season.
NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 5 was a pulse-pounding installment that delivered twists, turns, and everything in between.
We had the pleasure of chatting with series showrunner Jami O'Brien about the hit AMC drama, and what's on tap for the rest of NOS4A2 Season 2.
TV Fanatic: What drew you to NOS4A2?
Jami O'Brien: The novel. Yeah. I'll tell you really quickly the story of how I came to adapt it.
I had been working for AMC for a long time, mostly working on a show called Hell on Wheels.
That was a Western that ran for five seasons on AMC. And towards the end of it, one of the executives from hell on wheels, a woman named Emma Miller, approached me and asked me if I had ever read NOS4A2.
