In the role, Ricci will oversee all unscripted television programming for the company’s Hollywood arm and entire portfolio of brands including BuzzFeed, Complex, Tasty and HuffPost. Celebrity Deathmatch lives again. The MTV series originally ran from 1998-2002 and was revived on MTV2 from 2006-2007. The new version will again live on MTV2. Girl Code, a spin-off of MTV2′s Guy Code has been picked up for a second season by MTV. The series features female comics giving viewers tips about womanhood, covering everything from frenemies, girl fights and cutting bathroom lines, to dancing drinking and dating. Two new episodes are set to air Tuesday at 9:30 Pm and 10:30 Pm. Girl Code ranks as the No. 1 original cable series in its time slot with P12-34, and is the No. 1 program across all TV in its time slot with W12-34. Additionally, it’s currently the most social MTV reality series on air, and ranks in the Top 10 for all TV shows each week. Girl Code, an original production by Viacom Media Networks, was developed by Ryan Ling who also serves as executive producer. Darin Byrne and Paul Ricci executive produce for MTV. MTV’s sibling MTV2 network has greenlighted a reboot of veteran game show Hollywood Squares. Titled Hip Hop Squares, the new show will premiere May 22 and star Nick Cannon; Jackass‘ Bam Margera; Kat Graham; DJ Khaled; rappers Fat Joe, Biz Markie, Ghostface Killah, Mac Miller and Mgk; and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Lamarr Woodley, among others. Radio DJ Peter Rosenberg will host, Nicole Lyn as DJ. “The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that’s unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more ‘party’ than ‘game show’,” said Paul Ricci, Head of Programming for MTV2. MTV2 is bringing back the classic game show Hollywood Squares, but with a modern twist.
The cable network has secured the rights to the comedic tic-tac-toe format for a new series titled Hip Hop Squares. In the show, charismatic personalities from the world of hip hop will populate the show’s nine quadrants. Toronto -- Cookie Jar Entertainment has landed its high-flying "Lucha Libre" Mexican-style TV wrestling series on MTV2 and MTV Tres.
The U.S. cable channels will air the first 52 weeks of the first English-language version of the Latin pop cultural phenomenon via a U.S. broadcast deal with Lucha Libre USA LLC brokered by Cookie Jar Entertainment.
Lucha Libre Aaa wrestling events in 2008 were introduced to the American TV market with a "Battles of Triplemania" pay-per-view special.
