Last of the Living is a zombie styled thriller from New Zealand. This title was completed in 2008 by Gorilla Pictures, with a release of this title in the land of the kiwis in 2009. This film infection spread to North America in early 2010 thanks to Echo Bridge Entertainment. Full of fart gags and slow moving zombies, Last of the Living makes fun of itself and its characters through silly humour and situations.
The film begins with three underachievers holed up in a fortified house. Here, Ash (Ashleigh Southam), Johnny (Robert Faith), and Morgan (Morgan Williams) play video games and eat chips to their heart's content, as the zombie hordes take over the land. Moving from one locale to another introduces a female scientist into this testosterone mix. Soon each man clumsily seeks her focused yet distracted attention. Being a zombie movie fan, I’ve sat through some great ones (Fulci’s Zombie) and some real junk like Children of the Living Dead, but no matter what I go into all of them with an open mind and hoping for the best. Is this the one that finally tops Fulci’s or another one that causes my mind to wander and ponder life’s great mysteries—like Freddie Prinze, Jr. having an acting career.
One thing I never look forward to is the zombie comedy. They never turn out scary or funny because the filmmaker tries too hard to make them so. Obviously, there are exceptions like Shaun of the Dead and the relatively unknown Dance of the Dead. Granted, the whole concept of the dead coming back to life to eat the living is ridiculous enough (although when they die, I’m posting a...

Last of the Living is a little Australian horror film that will be available in the Us and Canada March 2nd through Quantum Releasing. In case you are wondering, no this writer, publisher, reviewer is not bitter about several promises from director Logan Mcmillan to send a screener of the film, here. Well maybe there is a little bitterness left over. Yet, the film is worth a second look, despite some apathy on the part of Quantum because Last of the Living is a curious little film that was made for approximately 45k. The film seems to hold some kind of charm and a definitive love for the zombie horror sub-genre. If you have not seen the trailer then here is one emphatic vote that you spend a few moments immersing yourself in Last of the Living, an ozzie film with style.
