London, June 10 (Ians) Top-ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne has revealed why he took a brief nap during Australia’s second innings of the Icc World Test Championship Final when he dozed off even while teammates faced a bowling barrage at The Oval.
Labuschagne decided to sit back and take a nap as teammates David Warner and Usman Khawaja looked to build on Australia’s lead, though the No.3 batter was rudely awoken and called out to the middle when Mohammed Siraj struck, reports Icc.
Taking a nap before his innings, Marnus Labuschagne was awoken on The Oval balcony by India fans celebrating David Warner’s wicket.
“I was just resting my eyes between balls and just relaxing,” Labuschagne told Sen Cricket after the day’s play. “I was trying to calm my nerves a little bit, you can’t watch the game all the time, I got up there and was awake pretty soon.

Mumbai, Jan 14 (Ians) The national selection committee’s decision to include white-ball specialist Suryakumar Yadav ahead of upcoming red-ball specialists, especially Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan, has raised a lot of dust with some former players and fans blasting the selectors for their decision.
Former India opener and noted commentator Aakash Chopra is one of the first to react on the issue and said Sarfaraz Khan might feel cheated for not being picked in the squad for the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Series despite some good performances in domestic red-ball cricket.
The selectors on Friday evening named wicket-keeper-batter Ishan Kishan beside stylish batter Suryakumar Yadav in the 17-member Indian Test squad for the first two games against Australia, beginning on February 9.
Suryakumar, who has been in brilliant form in T20Is for India, has also been included. He made his first-class debut way back in December 2010 and has 5549 runs...

Christchurch, Nov 30 (Ians) India’s left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has been under huge scrutiny due to low scores in white-ball cricket, believes that his record in limited-overs cricket is not that bad, as compared to his numbers in red-ball cricket.
Pant, 25, has been far from his best in limited overs cricket this year. In T20Is, he has scored just one fifty against the West Indies in February. In ODIs, he hit two fifties and a hundred, an unbeaten 125 against England in Manchester in July.
“Record is just a number, my white-ball record is not that bad either,” a miffed Pant replied to Harsha Bhogle ahead of the match on Prime Video, the official broadcasters of India’s tour to New Zealand.
When Bhogle said he was merely comparing his red-ball and white-ball records, Pant disagreed with the comparison. “Comparison is not a part of my life, I’m...

From being beaten, hurt and damaged to emerge as ‘The God of Cricket’, it has been an unparalleled journey for Sachin Tendulkar, who stays on to be a living legend. The lesson that his life story narrates? Failure is the ‘Fuel of Champions’. All of this and more is what Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo’ ad film “The Greatest Lesson” narrates which is a testimony of how a true hero rises up from the challenge.
“The ad showcases a nostalgic chapter of overcoming failure whilst maneuvering the ‘never give up’ spirit. It also portrays a motivational lesson of silence, hardwork and perseverance contributing into achieving success. Further, the campaign also underlines the fact that failure should never be forgotten but embraced and utilized to work towards your goals,” informs a certain member from the creative team.
No wonder, for decades Sachin Tendulkar has been en epitome of relentless human spirit in its pursuit of excellence.

New Delhi, Jan 30 (Ians) Ajinkya Rahane said that he didn't cut a kangaroo-shaped cake after returning to India after the Test series win in Australia out of respect for the opposition. Rahane, who was captain for the last three Tests in the series, received a hero's welcome upon his return to Mumbai and could be seen refusing to cut the cake in visuals from the celebration.
"Kangaroo is their (Australian) national animal and I don't want to do that. You treat your opposition, you give them respect even if you win, even if you create history. That's fine. You have to have that respect for the opponents and other countries. That's why I took that decision not to cut that cake," Rahane told cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle in an interview posted on the former's Facebook page.

Sydney, Jan 11 (Ians) Prolific Australia batsman Steve Smith faced criticism on social media after he was seen scuffing up the area around the batting crease while Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara were batting in India's second innings on the fifth day of the third Test on Monday. The match was drawn, and the four-Test series is levelled 1-1.
During the morning session on Monday, the stump camera recorded members of the Australian team coming to the crease and 31-year-old Smith was seen using his feet to scuff the guard marks left by wicketkeeper-batsman Pant. After that, Pant took the guard afresh, and went on to score an 118-ball 97.
Taking a note of this act, former India opener Virender Sehwag made a video post on his Instagram account and wrote: "Tried all tricks including Steve Smith trying to remove Pant's batting guard marks from the crease. Par kuch kaam na aaya.

New Delhi, Nov 20 (Ians) Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar believes the Indian bowling attack is competent enough to help the team register consecutive Test series-win Down Under.
India, in their last tour of Australia in 2018-19, had registered their first-ever Test series win Down Under.
However, Manjrekar believes that Virat Kohli's men will face a tougher competition this time around following the return of Steve Smith and David Warner, who were not part of the 2018-19 series as they were undergoing ban for their involvement in ball-tampering scandal.
"Australia's Test team will be stronger than it was on India's previous tour. The experience of Smith and Warner will add muscle to the Aussie side but I believe India's bowling attack is ready to have their names carved in the history of Indian cricket by winning a consecutive series Down Under," Manjrekar was quoted as saying in a media release.
