Update 9 Pm with more from conversation throughout: Julie Taymor (Across The Universe, Titus) interviewed Jodie Foster, whose film Money Monster with George Clooney and Julie Roberts just got a berth in Cannes (and whose Taxi Driver is a centerpiece of this year’s festival) before a packed audience Wednesday afternoon at the Tribeca Film Festival’s Festival Hub. The pair could not be more different as directors, in terms of style and approach. Taymor proved to be a deft…...

Is everyone ready for some #realtalk about the economy? I dunno —I thought we just had that conversation with "The Big Short," Adam McKay's entertainingly bonkers, Oscar nominated picture. Read More: The 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2016 The Jodie Foster directed movie stars a New York Accent (played by Jack O'Connell), who takes a cable network financial guru in the vein of Jim Cramer played by Clooney hostage and then demands answers to thorny economic policy questions during a broadcast of the guru's show. So, you know, pretty realistic! Here's the official synopsis: In the taut and tense thriller Money Monster, Lee Gates (George Clooney) is a bombastic TV personality whose popular financial network show has made him the money wiz of Wall.

There was no shortage of craned necks and gaping mouths when Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Julie Roberts all whizzed by on the red carpet Monday night at HBO's premiere of The Normal Heart in New York City, but the most deafening buzz came when playwright Larry Kramer made his way through the throng. Photos: Mark Ruffalo, Jim Parsons and the Making of 'The Normal Heart' "Rightfully so, don't you think?" Matt Bomer told The Hollywood Reporter of the reaction to Kramer, who wrote the stage version of Normal Heart as well as the film's screenplay. "He is the heart of this

Washington, March 4: Ratings for the 86th Annual Academy Awards were up 7 percent as compared to the previous year's ratings.
According to Nielsen, New York, Kansas City, Missouri State and Chicago were the strongest markets for the 2014's Academy Awards, Fox News reported.
The Oscars are frequently the second most-watched television program after the Super Bowl, with viewership topping 40 million people in 2013.
The ceremony, which was hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, was a big hit on social media, as the "selfie" taken by her with stars like Meryl Streep, Julie Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Pitt and.

A white button-down blouse underneath a black strapless ball gown? It was questionable the first time it was debuted on a red carpet, but the second time was even worse.
Remember that time Julie Roberts rocked the weird combination at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards? Clearly Whoopi Goldberg loved the look, because the talk show host copied the movie star's look at the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 2).
Roberts paired her look with an updo and a belt, while Goldberg let her hair hang down with an extra-long pearl necklace and ruby red high heels.
So while no one looked good wearing the blouse and dress combo, we had to ask: Who wore it better?

Though Matt Damon has had a fairly lengthy Hollywood career, his Emmy nomination for lead actor as Scott Thorson, Liberace's lover, in HBO's "Behind the Candelabra" is his first. Of course, that's because Damon usually focuses on the big screen.
You may recognize him from movies like "The Bourne Identity" and, most recently, "Elysium." He's also that guy who wrote a script with his buddy, Ben Affleck, and won an Oscar for it. Surely, you remember "Good Will Hunting."
Welcome to Before They Were Emmy Nominees. Each Tuesday and Wednesday between now and the Emmy Awards on Sept. 22, we're going to look back at some early and obscure roles of a few of this year's acting nominees. (See Zap2it's Before They Were Nominees photo gallery.)
For Damon, obscure roles really aren't his thing. After all, he's one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. There are definitely some you may have missed,...

• Oscar predictions 2014: American Hustle
This year's …
The Descendants in terms of its character-based comedy and themes of family tension.
Also, confusingly, this year's Argo in that it is co-produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov (who scooped the crowning best picture Oscar for Ben Affleck's Iranian siege caper last February).
What's it all about?
Interior: a roomy Oklahoma house, the closets full of skeletons. At the head of the table sits Violet (Meryl Streep), a dying matriarch, addicted to prescription meds. Orbiting her come Julie Roberts (as Violet's brittle oldest daughter), Juliette Lewis (wayward youngest daughter) and Benedict Cumberbatch (deadbeat illegitimate son). Misty Upham lends support as the Cheyenne housekeeper who bears witness to the domestic squalls.

For the third blind auditions episode of The Voice season 4, we get singers named Beckham, Iglesias and Julie Roberts, none of whom are related to their famous namesakes. More importantly, Adam Levine finally makes good on his promise to steal a country artist from Blake Shelton. It's kind of like the end of There Will Be Blood, which I'll explain later. It involves a straw.

No time for my Year End Roundup or even my Havana Film Festival Report because I am busy with writing a Report -For-Pay of the 1,000 Top Filmmakers, Location Managers and Influencers Worldwide for a particularly smart country’s film commissioner and I must deliver it by the year’s end.
As I compile it, I am struck by the names of the film companies I am looking at. German names are mundane and Irish are imaginative. I know the U.S. names so well that in contrast, the French names are so evocative.
Naming companies after their owners and the well known studio names are normal and mundane. Personal meaning names like Lava Bear or Wild West Picture Show are more interesting as they bring up imaginary pictures. Weed Road of Akiva Goldsman is very evocative – do its owners smoke weed? Virgin Produced – well that’s fairly obvious I think -- once you know Richard Branson owns it, Walden Media evokes Walden Pond. Village Roadshow always sounded good but it’s old school like the majors are by now, as is New Regency of former arms dealer Arnon Milchan now partner of 20th Century Fox and others with their longstanding studio deals. In the U.S. we have so many old studio or “studio deal” companies whose early origins have been obscured by the sands of time and which no longer elicit dreams of greatness or memories of private childhood games or haunts, names like Alcon, the company founded by FedEx's Fred Smith, Leonardo di Caprio's Appian Way (recalling the old Roman road), Mark Canton's Atmosphere Entertainment, Amram Bernstein's Beacon Pictures, Rob Reiner's Castle Rock Entertainment, Spring Creek which was so evocative of Paula Weinstein when she was with Mark Rosenberg, major Columbia Pictures, Weinstein offshoot Dimension Films, Spielberg's Dreamworks, Endgame Entertainment, James Schamus and David Linde's Focus Features now Universal's arthouse arm, major Fox 2000 and Fox Searchlight, Gold Circle Films of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame, HBO – a perfect name of the time and place, HBO Latin America Group – a perfect revisionist name for the brand, Imagine Entertainment which still elicits the name of Brian Glazer ,Malpaso which still evokes Clint Eastwood, Mandalay Pictures which still recalls Peter Guber and those old Sony days of power plays, Legendary Pictures recalls Batman and Superman, Marvel Studios – the comicbook heroes, Lionsgate – gone corporate after their indie Canadian beginnings so long ago, , MGM, Moonstone, Morgan Creek Productions, Mutual Films, Myriad Pictures, New Line Cinema, New Regency, Pandemonium (we still love Bill Mechanic), Paramount Pictures, , Phoenix Pictures (we still love Mike Medavoy), Radar Pictures (Ted Fields), Red Om (Julie Roberts), Relativity Media (Ryan Cavanaugh), Revelations (hooray for Morgan Freeman), , Ritchie-Wigram, Screen Gems, Sidney Kimmel Entertainment to name a few, Tribeca Films, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros.
We have the usual names based on the company owners who are or perceive themselves to be brands in themselves like Apatow, Berlanti Prods, Bleiberg Entertainment, Blumhouse Prods. In which Jason Blum becomes horror branded, Bender Spenk, Bruce Cohen Prods., Callahan Filmworks, Chris Morgan Prods., Chuck Lorre Prods., De Line, de Passe Jones Entertainment, Di Novi, Francine Maisler & Associates, Freemantle, George Litto , Gerber, Gk Films, Hurwitz & Schlossberg Prods., , J.W. Prods., Josephson, KatzSmith, Lin Pictures, Stuber Pictures, Tdj Enterprises, Team Downey, The Weinstein Company.
There are those companies whose names evoke places like 22nd & Indiana, Arroyo Films, Broken Road Prods., Cross Creek, GreeneStreet Films, Cherry Road Films (not so new), Hyde Park , Lakeshore Entertainment (where Tom Rosenberg either lived or vacationed as a child), Langley Park, Olive Bridge Entertainment, Pearl Street, Spring Street, Barry Levinson's Baltimore, Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street, Thunder Road, Summit named after the street Patrick Wachsberger live(d) on in Beverly Hills.
The U.S. fanciful names like 3 Monkeys, Angle Films, Agregate Films, Polymorphic evoke something more private than public. Other companies evoking private signals to those who are in the know are 3 Monkeys, Aggregate Films (pretty hip for today), Angle Films, Barnstorm Pictures, Bold Films, Branded Films (a good capitalistic name for today), Captivate Entertainment, Carousel Prods., Cruel and Unusual, Everyman Pictures, Exclusive Media Group, Film 44, FilmDistrict, Global Produce, Green Hat Films, Groundswell , Gulfstream, Heyday, Illumination Entertainment, ImageMovers, Lava Bear Films – hats off to David Linde, Media Rights Capital, Mockingbird Pictures, Ninjas Runnin Wild, One Race Films, Open City (we love Jason Kliot and Joana Vicente), Original Films, Our Stories, Playtone, Polymorphic, Roserock Films, Saturn, , Atlantic Streamline, Shandaland – I love the Yiddish reference here , Strike Entertainment, Thousand Words.
For some reason, the French names sound more exotic or, if not exotic, then somehow more evocative of the unknown…Of course some are named after their owners, like Les Films d’Antoine…though even that sounds more exotic than Gk Films, Graham King’s company. There is an everyday familiarity with the U.S. that I definitely do not have with the French.
I feel a little like Proust in Names and Places, conjuring up unknown histories and deeper meanings to the French companies.
Ok, A.S.A.P. is American so that hardly counts, though it is a cool name for a film company. And Anna Lena, maybe is a person’s name. Avenue B, again is American as is Blue Monday and Local Film, though Charivari is Italian and Aurora is Latin. But the Cine names are great: Cine Nomine – what an intelligent play on words, in the name of g’d, or Cinema Defacto or Cine-Sud; all have great meaning behind them. Dharamsala is either an Indian God or food, Dolce Vita we know is a tribute to Fellini. Is Delante Films like Adelante? And Elzevir – again Proust enters with his fictionalized artist. Estrella and Gloria are names aiming for Greatness. But what is Kaleo?
La Vie est Belle gets me singing the song from South Pacific. Lazennec seems very old and venerable, aristocratic even, while Les Enrages is very 60s. Rezo is also an old and classic film company of France and Pathe and Gaumont are equivalent to our major studio names. Les Films de la Croisade – does it have a crusade as its mission? Les Films du Lendemain seems very laid back. Les Films du Poisson makes me wonder what does a fish have to do with the movies? And what is Veyrier? Les Productions Balthazar sound s great, though its founder’s name is Balthazar. And Les Films Pelleas sound grand and mythological. Mille et Une Films makes you know there are 1,001 stories to be told. Haut et Court elicits a picture which I cannot explain.
While MK2 is simply based upon the name of Marin Karmitz, I love his job title, “President du Conseil de Surveillance”, or President of the Surveillance Council, as he grants his son Nathanael his legacy.
Noodles is fun. Petit is descriptive, Sbs is boring – I thought it was a broadcaster but it’s just a name, however, the name Said Ben Said is not boring at all nor are his films, like Passion and Carnage. Sciapode is intriguing – it sounds like sci-fi and Sombrero makes me think the filmmaker leans toward the Latino. Stone Angels – English again, as is The French Connection – both conjure up images from real life fiction. Stone Angels that decorate tombs of old aristocrats; Pierre-Ange Le Pogam’s name also conjures up the Proustian Names of Old - Stone Angel the Pogam…what is a Pogam? Tempete Sous un Crane is also totally out there as a name…Storm Beneath a Crane? Maybe I don’t know French so well after all. But that is Julie Delpy’s company She’s already mostly American anyway. . I loved her last film 2 Days in New York. It would take me another lifetime to be as knowledgeable about the French as I am about the Americans. And I’m not very knowledgeable about them either nowadays. But the French names make me feel like Proust as they elicit wonderment and create stories in and of themselves.

It's not every house - or couple - that can welcome Reese Witherspoon, Jane Lynch and Julie Roberts to dinner all on the same night, but Glee, American Horror Story and The New Normal creator Ryan Murphy and his husband, photographer David Miller, did just that, when in June they hosted the $40,000-a-plate dinner for President Obama. Of course, besides great connections, it also helps to have a $10 million showplace to call home, which the couple - who wed last 4th of July - also have, as seen in The Hollywood Reporter's first-ever Home Issue. Located near the Beverly Hills Hotel,...

I find it absolutely impossible not to be drawn in by Tarsem Singh's visuals. The guy knows how to paint an optical feast and on the heels of Immortals, The Fall and The Cell, his kid-targeted Snow White tale, Mirror Mirror, is no different. And as far as general audiences are concerned, it may to be his most accessible feature yet.
Accompanying all its scenic splendor, Mirror Mirror is an innocent, farcical take on the story of Snow White without devolving into annoying slapstick. As far as I can tell it seems to hit most of the typical plot points of an evil queen attempting to kill the "fairer" princess who eventually falls in love with the dashing prince, enter the seven dwarfs and yadda, yadda, yadda... the end. When it comes to the story, you're already lockstep and in line. Having never read the classic Grimm brothers' fairy...

Relativity has found what it thinks is the fairest release date of all for "Mirror Mirror." The studio's Snow White project has finally landed on March 30, Relativity said Thursday. One of two Snow White movies coming out in the next few months, "Mirror Mirror" has had several release dates. Originally, Relativity planned to release Tarsem Singh's movie -- which stars Julie Roberts, Armie Hammer, Lily Collins and Nathan Lane -- on June 29. If you've come here looking for something along the lines of what you saw in the trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman feel free to leave now because that is not what you're going to get as the first trailer for Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror has arrived and it's quite clear this one is aiming for an entirely different audience. So before you prepare to judge it, consider it might not be intended for you as the comedy is most likely going to hit with a thud and the story looks as if it's a magical version of some Kate Hudson rom-com. One thing's for certain, Singh has definitely lightened the mood when compared to Immortals. Mirror Mirror is the first of two Snow White features to make way for theaters next year. Julie Roberts starts to understanding what Tom Hanks is driving at in Larry Crowne.
The comedy-drama romance (okay, we’ll call it a romantic comedy, as well) Larry Crowne, starring Tom Hanks (Road to Perdition) and Julia Roberts (Eat Pray Love), fills the slot of feel-good movie of the summer of 2011.
Directed and co-written by Hanks, the film sets its sights on the happy-go-lucky company man Larry Crowne (Hanks), who finds himself edged out of his job in a downsizing. Larry takes the loss of his job in stride and decides to start over by enrolling at a local college. At school, he quickly falls in with a colorful pack of scooter-riding outcasts, but it’s in his public-speaking class where Larry develops an unexpected crush on his beautiful but troubled teacher, Mercedes Tainot (Roberts). HollywoodNews.com: The toys are back in town and everything else this week clearly took a backseat to Michael Bay’s pyrotechnic display in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon , a movie that generated more fireworks in its last hour than any fourth of July celebration you are likely to find. The third installment in the action series clocked in at over two and a half hours with the last third totally devoted to the mother of all screen battles between the nice-guy Autobots and the evil Decepticons. Quite frankly I didn’t hold out much hope for this flick but Bay delivered exactly what you would hope these films can be , the perfect summer brain blast. Pixar Animation hasn’t lost its touch at the box office. Pixar’s animated sequel “Cars 2” finished in first place with a $68 million opening weekend. The 2006’s “Cars” raked in $60.1 million without an adjustment for inflation. The animated sequel features the tow truck Mater in an international spy adventure. The film is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, Eddie Izzard and John Turturro. Columbia Pictures’ R-rated comedy “Bad Teacher” had a decent opening weekend in second place with nearly $31 million. How have I gone this long without seeing this movie??! I have to say, Mystic Pizza might be worthy of updating the title to my favorites list!
Sisters Kat and Daisy, along with their friend Jojo, work at the local Mystic Pizza Parlor in Mystic Connecticut. Daisy dreams of leaving Mystic, Kat of going to Yale, and Jojo wants to take over the Mystic Pizza Parlor someday, and is running away from marrying her sweetheart. Between their futures and the men in their lives (Daisy meets a rich law school drop-out, Jojo has her marriage crazy boyfriend, and Kat falls for the architect that she babysits for), there is always something going on in Mystic!
This is a fantastic movie that translates well over time. The friendship between the characters is not overdone with cheese like most of the films of today. Julie Roberts really shines as Daisy, a misunderstood,...

Following on from his successful involvement with Toy Story 3, latest reports are suggesting that Michael Ardnt has been brought onboard Disney's latest Brothers Grimm remake, Snow White. Ardnt, one of the head writers for 2010's Toy Story threequel and thus a recent Oscar nominee, has apparently been asked to head the project - which has been in and out of production since 2002 - alongside director Francis Lawrence and producer Andrew Gunn, both of whom have been involved with it since the start. Furthermore, production designer John Myhre - whose previous work includes an Oscar-winning display in each of Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago - has been brought on board so as to begin creating the 21st century vision of the Snow White world, a world that is to be set in... Philip Noyce is definitely not directing any sequel to Salt – which grossed about $300 million worldwide and propelled Noyce back into the mainstream Hollywood game (whether he likes it or not) – and may now be looking toward another project, New Line’s Our Wild Life, based on the true story of animal conservationist Dame Daphne Sheldrick. As Playlist’s report reveals, he appears to be wading into troubled waters.
The biopic concerns Sheldrick’s attempts to prevent elephant extinction in Kenya and has gone through three directors so far. Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, Alpha Dogs) is suing New Line after they reportedly booted him off the project after ordering a re-write. Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries, the in-progress On The Road) was also once attached, with Julie Roberts interested in the lead role. Kate Winslet was reportedly offered the role, but her reps have disavowed any such thing. Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore,...

I have a cute story about Emma Roberts. I babysat her a few times when I had a 13-year-old stepdaughter a few years back (long story). Anyway, one day 13-year-old Emma Roberts wanted to watch a horror movie...
So I took Emma and her 13-year-old friend to Blockbuster and suggested they rent Scream. I figured they'd get a kick out of it. Well, both girls got the shit scared out of them. I'm pretty sure Emma did not enjoy the movie.
Now, 7 years later, Emma is probably saying shit in interviews like, "I have always loved the Scream franchise and am very excited to be blah blah blah...". If you haven't figured it out yet, Emma Roberts is famous because she is Julie Roberts's niece. End of story. She grew up in a huge house that Auntie Julia paid for and her mom didn't work because she was getting...

Ben Affleck’s back in the top spot with his second directorial effort The Town, a Boston-set crime drama which he also stars in and co-wrote. The Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures co-production earned an estimated $23.8 million for its first three days in release, far out-performing the film’s expectations. The film drew in a predominantly male audience, who filled seats to see the film’s heist premise and its lead actor. The fact that the film also scored a B+ from exit pollster CinemaScore suggests it will have a solid life after this weekend.

The devil took the lead at the boxoffice on Friday as Lionsgate launched "The Last Exorcism" in the top spot, while James Cameron's "Avatar" staged a 3D return to theaters as its cumulative domestic gross crossed $750 million.
The PG-13 "Exorcism," directed by Daniel Stamm, handily beat back all comers as it attracted an estimated $9.4 million in 2,874 theaters in North America.
"Takers," the weekend's other wide opener, ranked second for the day. Sony/Screen Gems' PG-13 crime tale, starring Hayden Christensen and Chris Brown and directed by John Luessenhop, grabbed $7.5 million in 2,206 theaters.
Playing in just 812 3D locations, Fox's "Avatar" was further down the list, falling just outside the top ten for the day. But its gross of just over $1.2 million was enough to raise the film's already stratospheric domestic tally to more than $751 million.

Director: Ryan Murphy Writers: Elizabeth Gilbert (novel), Ryan Murphy, Jennifer Salt Starring: Julia Roberts, Billy Crudup, James Franco, Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, Richard Jenkins, Christine Hakim Eat Pray Love is a film based on the book by Elizabeth Gilbert, a New York Times best seller that won’t seem to go away. I have not read Eat Pray Love, but if the movie is anything like the book, I had enough in theater, and need not spend my evenings crying onto page after page of drivel. The film revolves around Liz (Julia Roberts), a woman who has an epiphany, realizing she is not particularly happy with life, gets a divorce, eats a lot, goes on a Beatle-esque spiritual journey, and falls in love again. Bet you didn’t see that coming, did you? Eat Pray Love had potential; a competent director, a cast up for the task, and a premise...

Jerrod Niemann's journey in music industry is not an easy one. He has experienced up and down, losing record deals he once thought would be his big break. After a long, rough patch, he finally made it well with "Lover, Lover". He became the first new male artist to crack the Top 30 of Billboard Country Singles chart in less than 6 weeks since 2006.
This Kansas native may be a newbie in country music chart but he actually has made a name for himself as a respected songwriter since 5 years ago for co-penning Garth Brooks' #1 hit "Good Ride Cowboy". Other artists he has written songs for include Jamey Johnson and Julie Roberts.
Jerrod's creative style is very much his own. He blends traditional roots with a contemporary edge, adding some unconventional elements for an album that he describes as "deliciously diverse." The effort is titled "Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury" and injected with 8 skits,...

Producer Jerry Weintraub (Karate Kid (1984 and 2010) has pitched a remake of Oh, God! to Warner Brothers. He wants Betty White in the George Burns' role, and Paul Rudd in the other lead. My guess: White has too much respect for Burns to take the offer, plus: Come on. I love Betty White. Everyone loves Betty White. But that woman is 88 years old: I know she can still kick a lot of ass, but a lead role in a major motion picture might be a little much. Maybe that's ageist, but we've only got one Golden Girl left, people. Let's try to preserve her a little longer. (Deadline)

The 40s are a very awkward decade for many American actresses. That's when many begin to fade, not necessarily because of lack of talent, but because that's when Hollywood decides it's a good time to put them out to pasture, where they roam around our television sets as sitcom mothers or disappear into obscurity, at least until they're old enough to latch onto dramatic roles or grandmothers. Sure, there are exceptions -- Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker (kind of) and Julie Roberts (kind of) -- but for every Jennifer Aniston, there's an Elisabeth Shue, for every Julie Roberts, there's an Annabella Sciora, and for every Sjp or Bullock, there's a Michelle Pfeiffer or Tea Leoni. Glen Close practically disappeared in her 40s; what happened to Sela Ward; Sharon Stone lost it; where's Mira Sorvino? Or Geena Davis? For a lot of actresses, 40 is the end of the line...

When viewers first met Noah “Puck” Puckerman, a brutish football player oozing testosterone, he was heaving poor Kurt Hummel into a dumpster at school. Later he turned out to be the father of Quinn Fabray’s and then he made quite an impression exiting a steam room after having apparently hit all the right notes with April Rhodes played by Kristin Chenoweth.
Given the show’s large cast, most folks probably thought there wasn’t going to be much more to Puck, but on last night’s episode “Mash-Up” viewers not only say a softer side to Puck, but also learned he really could hit all the right notes with his rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”
