With an International Panorama spangled by gems – think Spain’s “Apagón,” Sweden’s “Blackwater,” and Canada’s “Disobey” and “Little Bird” – Series Mania also weighs in this year with one, if not the, strongest and most mouthwatering of international competitions in its history.

Some 600 film professionals from across Europe headed to its four-day industry program, unfolding December 10 to 13, to check out project and work-in-progress showcases, participate in a variety of workshops, network and hit the slopes.
One of the major topics on the industry program’s agenda this year was how can film festivals and the cinema industry, in general, be more sustainable and play their part in helping to rein in climate change.
With temperatures hitting lows of -15 degrees centigrade (5 degrees Fahrenheit) on pristine white slopes at altitudes between 6,400 ft and 12,400 ft, growing fears that the world is in a climate emergency felt a long way away.

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to the romance-drama “Two of Us,” the feature directorial debut of France-based Italian filmmaker Filippo Meneghetti.
Magnolia is planning a theatrical release early next year. The films follows two older women, played by Barbara Sukowa and Martine Chevallier, who live across the hall from each other in the same apartment building but have kept their romance hidden for decades.
The film held its world premiere as part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Discovery program. Variety’s Mark Keizer said in his review that the film is “an affirmation of our universal desire for emotional intimacy and how the right connection can overcome all social and physical limitations. The fact that the relationship is between two lesbians well into their retirement years only makes the film even more quietly groundbreaking.”

Works In Progress winner is Nataliya Kudryashova for Pioneer Heroes.
The Les Arcs Film Festival’s CoProduction Village wrapped its sixth edition on December 15, including the Works-In-Progress, Projects in Development, Low Budget Film Forum and for the first year, the Music Village Pro.
The Voice by György Pálfi was chosen as the prize winner for the Projects in Development, earning the Hungarian filmmaker €4,000 as part of a first time prize-fund sponsored by Arte.
The film centers around a young boy in search of his father who went missing in Stockholm thirty years ago. Pálfi, a Les Arcs regular, attributes much of his success to the CoProduction Village. “I am very supportive of this festival, it has benefitted me immensely over the years. But never did I think I would win this award.”

Inaugural edition of the new co-production market will run June 12-13.Scroll down for full list of projects
Pia Marais, Andrea Segre and Brillante Mendoza [pictured] are among the directors who will be presenting their new projects at the inaugural Paris Coproduction Village in June.
Organised by the same team that runs Les Arcs European Film Festival, in association with the Champs-Elysees Film Festival, the event will take place off Paris’ most famous boulevard on June 12 and 13.
The event was launched in March to replace the respected Paris Project co-production market, which folded after losing its city hall funding.
“We pulled together the line-up in an incredibly short space of time,” said Vanja Kaludjercic, who spearheads the new event alongside Les Arcs CEO Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin.
“We were very proactive in terms of chasing projects we knew were coming together. Everyone did their bit and got on the phone. We’re pretty pleased with the resulting selection.”
