The following month, “The Daily Show” will set up shop in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention from August 19 to August 22.

The last new correspondent still on the show was Dulcé Sloan, who joined in September 2017 (Jordan Klepper returned in December 2019 having previously been featured on the show).
Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt joined the show in October 2023 and Johnson, who was previously a writer on the show, made his on-screen debut in February. The move to official correspondents just happened, despite being on the show for a few months.

Missed Thursday’s late-night monologues? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of the night’s best laughs from across the dial.
Principles Are for Off-Years
The comedic fallout from this week’s widely derided Arizona Supreme Court ruling that an 1864 abortion ban can go into effect continued to pelt election-obsessed Republicans on Thursday. With formerly staunch anti-choice GOP politicians ducking and running from the near-universal scorn and anger resulting from such a draconian law reaching all the way back to before women could vote to deprive 2024 women of their bodily autonomy, late-night hosts remained in full dog-pile mode, playing readily available old clips of GOP hopefuls’ past fire-and-brimstone anti-abortion messaging alongside their current, voter-courting “Well, actually…” hypocrisy.
The Daily Show‘s Michael Kosta, playing one such past clip of Arizona Senate candidate and infamous election denier Kari Lake rhapsodizing over the 1864-derived law by its extended bill name (Ars 13-3603), noted,...

Following the news of O.J. Simpson dying of cancer, celebrity reactions to the controversial figure’s death began pouring in.
In a statement shared by the Simpson family on Thursday morning, it was announced that on Wednesday, the former football player, who became better known for being accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman amid an infamous televised car chase and trial, “succumbed to his battle with cancer” while surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Caitlyn Jenner, who married Kris Jenner shortly after the Kardashian matriarch’s divorce from Robert Kardashian, who was Simpson’s defense attorney during the murder trial, was among the first to react on social media. “Good Riddance #OJSimpson,” she tweeted.
Mia Farrow also took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Thinking of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman – and their families.”

Fresh off of the release of their new album Only God Was Above Us, Vampire Weekend made a surprise appearance at a Goose show on Wednesday night. To start their second set at the Port Chester, New York, venue The Capitol Theatre, the jam band brought out the indie vets to rip through “Gen-X Cops” and a 30-minute (!) version of “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” Stream the entire set below.
“We’re gonna have some special guests come up here,” Goose member Peter Anspach said as the band entered the second hour of their monstrous four-hour-long set. Once Ezra Koenig, Chris Baio, and Chris Thomson took the stage, the two bands launched into a jammy, though relatively faithful rendition of the Only God Was Above Us cut “Gen-x Cops.” Vampire Weekend fan-favorite “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” followed, morphing into a half-hour-long jam of grooves and solos.

Who is hosting The Daily Show this week?
If you said Jon Stewart you get 25 percent credit. For the other 75 you have to know the name Michael Kosta, because he’s following Stewart’s now-regular Monday night showcase with three nights behind the Tds desk this week, a role Kosta has been handling with some frequency in recent months.
Kosta is the self-described “big, straight, white male, standing there looking solid, doesn’t look too bad in a suit,” whose first piece on air for Tds was going around New York City encountering people who mistook him for Donald Trump Jr., as various shady guys with Russian accents handed him briefcases full of cash.
A joke, of course. Kosta doesn’t really look much like Junior. For one thing he’s in better shape. He used to be a professional tennis player.
Kosta could maybe be called a “host-in-waiting,” but...

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show shed viewers this past week.
According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data for the week of March 11, 2024 (live-plus three isn’t available through Thursday yet), Comedy Central’s late-night talk program averaged 547,000 total viewers and 112,000 P18-49. That’s a -1% drop-off in total viewers, and a -20% decline in P18-49 viewers from the week prior.

The Daily Show’s March 11 episode, Stewart’s fifth as Monday host, averaged nearly 2 million total viewers and 335,000 P18-49 viewers per Nielsen live-plus-three data. After Jon Stewart’s Monday show, The Daily Show went with a co-host format Tuesday through Thursday, with correspondents Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta sitting next to one another at the desk.

A recent family photo of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, and her three kids raised eyebrows. She found herself embroiled in a social media storm after posting an edited picture of herself with her children on UK Mother’s Day. After four weeks of handing over Tues-Thurs hosting duties to each of primary correspondents, The Daily Show is pairing two of them together this week with Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta set to share the desk.
It’s not the first time the show has tapped two correspondents to co-host, but this will be the first week-long co-hosting stint. (Both correspondents hosted solo over different weeks in February.)
Kosta and Lydic memorably appeared together in a piece for the show last November that poked fun at the rising prices (and shrinking content offerings) of streaming services.
The duo’s guests this week are set to include David Alan Grier on Wednesday and Renée Elise Goldsberry on Thursday. Their schedule guest on Tuesday is journalist Jane Marie, promoting her new book “Selling the Dream: The Billion-Dollar Industry Bankrupting Americans.”

During The Daily Show segment “Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse” released Tuesday, correspondent Jordan Klepper headed to a Trump rally to ask supporters about presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s chances at the primary and the possibility of a Trump dictatorship, which the former president has alluded to and then later claimed he was kidding about it. To some Trump supporters, some of whom were dressed in American flag swim trunks and Maga caps, the answer rolled off their tongue.
One supporter suggested, “that’s what we need,” in reference to the dictatorship.

“Welcome to The Daily Show, my name is Jon Stewart.”
The comedian kicked off his return to the Comedy Central and he’s jazzed.
“Now where was I? I’m excited to be back. Why am I back, you may be asking yourselves, it’s a very reasonable question. I have committed a lot of crimes and from what I understand, talk show hosts are granted immunity. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but take it up with the founders,” he added.
Stewart was returning to the franchise that he turned around, ostensibly replacing Trevor Noah, who left over a year ago, with a few celebrity guest hosts helping out in between.
He kicked off the show as he always used to, with some good-natured political ribbing. He also managed to get another jibe at Apple, which canceled his previous show The Problem with Jon Stewart because of...

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday, and within three minutes was already going after Donald Trump — but also Joe Biden, taking a critical look at the president’s apparent age-related issues.
Announcing “Indecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,” Stewart dove right into special counsel Robert Hur’s report that exonerated President Biden on the matter of mishandling classified documents while also seemingly torpedoing his re-election efforts with its harsh description of Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. Stewart showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and likewise not being able to recall some basic facts. “It turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,” said Stewart, slipping seemingly effortlessly back into the role of the show’s host (monologue video below).

As Jon Stewart readies himself to return to The Daily Show, the comedian, entertainment news host, and activist wants to open up about why Apple TV+ canceled his show, The Problem With Jon Stweart, ahead of election season. Speaking with CBS Mornings, Stewart says Apple ended his series after two seasons out of fear he’d say something that would land him in trouble. While Stewart is used to being a target of judgment and ridicule, Apple TV+ hopes to keep their noses clean and free from backlash, especially with a heated political battle looming on the horizon.
“I wanted a place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season,” Stewart said. “I thought I was going to do it over at — they call it Apple TV+. It’s a television enclave, very small. It’s like living in Malibu. But they decided … they felt that they didn...

Ahead of his return to The Daily Show tonight, Jon Stewart has revealed why he’s getting back behind his old desk.
Stewart, who will host Monday nights on Comedy Central through the presidential election, said he “very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season.”
“Who better to comment on this election than someone who truly understands two aging men past their prime?” he joked.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Stewart said he hopes to have a “catharsis” and a “way to comment on things and a way to express them that hopefully people will enjoy.”
“But as far as influence … just about everything I had wanted to happen over the 16 years that I was at The Daily Show did not happen, if you were hoping for influence,” he said.

Jon Stewart is opening up about his highly anticipated return as host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, nearly nine years after leaving the nightly gig.
Appearing on Monday’s CBS Mornings before returning as Daily Show host on Mondays through the 2024 election, Stewart said it was indeed the political environment that brought him back, while also sharing that the move was influenced by his departure from Apple TV+ over creative differences.
“I very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season,” Stewart said, then referring to The Problem With Jon Stewart not moving forward with a third season on the streamer. “I thought I was going to do it over at — they call it Apple TV+. Jon Stewart is heading back to “The Daily Show.”
More than 25 years after starting on the Emmy Award-winning late-night show and nearly nine years after his exit, Stewart will host Monday episodes of “The Daily Show” through the 2024 presidential election. The Emmy Award-winning host will also serve as an executive producer on “The Daily Show” during this run.
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

The night is always darkest before the dawn (or so they say), and just when it seemed like all hope was lost ... a hero made his dramatic, last-minute return. Okay, today's news isn't quite on the level of Christian Bale's Batman coming out of self-imposed retirement in "The Dark Knight Rises" or a bearded Cap stepping out of the shadows in "Avengers: Infinity War," but we'll take what we can at this point. Jon Stewart, everyone's favorite talk show host and political humorist, is making his grand -- and rather unexpected -- return to hosting duties on "The Daily Show" just in time for the upcoming American presidential election.
The news was announced by President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy (via The Hollywood Reporter), though with a wrinkle. Rather than returning full-time, Stewart will merely host one episode a week on Mondays while the network cycles...

After an eight-year hiatus, Jon Stewart is set to make a surprising comeback to The Daily Show, where he originally began 25 years ago. Stewart will be hosting the Comedy Central late-night show one night a week throughout the election cycle, and his return follows his impactful tenure that revolutionized late-night TV, fostering talents like Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Samantha Bee, and Steve Carell. Many have speculated about Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show, especially after Apple TV+ canceled his series The Problem with Jon Stewart last year. Stewart will take the show’s prime slot on Monday nights to catch up on weekend news. Other weeknights will feature correspondents like Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, and Jordan Klepper. Stewart returns on February 12, producing episodes through 2025, reuniting with showrunner Jen Flanz. His return follows clashes with Apple TV+ over his canceled series, allowing him to reclaim The Daily Show.

Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show. After a yearlong search for Trevor Noah’s replacement, the longtime host and Noah’s predecessor has agreed to return on Monday nights through the 2024 election.
The new setup, a major coup for the show and for parent company Paramount, is set to begin Feb. 12. For the remainder of the week, the Comedy Central series will rely on a team of correspondents, which are likely to include Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta and Dulcé Sloan. Stewart, who spent 16 years at the show, the majority of them Emmy-winning, will be heavily involved as an executive producer on the other nights as well. The move comes after Stewart prematurely exited his Apple TV+ show, The Problem, following creative differences between the iPhone maker and its host over potential topics and guests.

After holding a year-long bake-off among various celebrities to find the next host of its signature “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central is going to try a new recipe.
When the program returns from a hiatus, it is expected to rely heavily on a team of correspondents to lead each night, according to three people familiar with the matter, though it is not clear if the network has struck upon its final assemblage of talent. “Daily Show” could also rely on guest appearances by some of the celebrities who have hosted the program since Trevor Noah, the last permanent presence behind the desk, quit abruptly in late 2022.
Those looking for an immediate successor for Noah won’t find one — at least, not yet.

Exclusive: The Daily Show was a surprise winner at the Emmys on Monday night.
The Comedy Central series won the award for Outstanding Talk Series for Trevor Noah’s final season, an emotional end to his seven-year run. Many expected Stephen Colbert to win for The Late Show or Jimmy Kimmel Live! but it was Noah that picked up the award, becoming the first Black man to lead a show to victory in the category.
Afterwards, a number of questions were directed towards Noah and the team about the future of The Daily Show, a fair ask given that it has now been over a year since Noah left the show.
Deadline understands that over the next few months, the focus will be on its correspondents to lead the show through this election year, rather than another phalanx of celebrity guest hosts.

Astute Emmy watchers noticed former “Daily Show” correspondent sending a silent message to Comedy Central producers on Monday night: “Please hire a host.”
The show has had rotating hosts since Trevor Noah stepped down in December 2022. Among them was Wood, who quit in December 2023 as the search for a permanent host dragged on.
Wood himself retweeted the clip, with the caption, “Chill, fam I was trying to do that in the low.”

Chris McCarthy has a big decision to make.
Nearly twelve months on to the day that Trevor Noah said goodbye to The Daily Show, the Comedy Central series still does not have a permanent host.
But a decision is expected soon with sources telling Deadline that Paramount is facing pressure to name a new host by the end of the year.
There have been a number of shortlists and stars mentioned throughout the process, which was hampered by the writers and actors strike, and obviously there was the Hasan Minhaj situation, where the Patriot Act star basically had the job before that New Yorker article came out.
But many in the late-night and comedy community believe that McCarthy and his team already have viable options right under their noses and with it the opportunity to shake-up the talk show landscape with a fresh take and in the process bolster diversity...

Emma Raducanu recently appeared in an episode of Warm & Fuzzy on Tennis Channel to discuss life on the Wta Tour and had a hilarious interaction with a magic tennis ball.
The former British No. 1 is currently out of action following double surgery on her wrists and ankle, and was due to play an exhibition in Macau during the close season but withdrew ahead of schedule. Raducanu is still working on her recovery routine as she plots to rejoin the tour early next year.
So far, no return date has been confirmed by the 2021 US Open champion or sources close to her. But recent reports from British press indicate she is unlikely to play in January when the season starts afresh, meaning she could miss the 2024 Australian Open.

Holger Rune has described his off-court activities as "lazy" but found that the best way to relax is to rewind his matches and look for improvement areas.
Rune is one of tennis's brightest stars and one of the hardest workers on tour. Because of his unwavering confidence, the Dane has earned the respect of his peers, contrary to the perception of some tennis fans who mistake it for arrogance.
At 20, Rune is among the leading lights of the Next Gen project and is tipped to become a future megastar alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner once the old guard of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal retire from professional tennis.
He has skyrocketed in the rankings and finds himself in the world's Top 10 competing for top honors. His biggest career accomplishment was winning the Paris Masters last season, earning the finest win of his career by beating Djokovic in the final.

Comedian Leslie Jones wasted no time in her return as guest host of “The Daily Show.” The minute Monday night’s episode started, Jones was off to the races, swearing and blaming America for “what the f–k is going on with Donald Trump.”

“The Daily Show” returned on Monday night, and though correspondent Michael Kosta guest hosted, Jordan Klepper also returned with a new “Fingers the Pulse” segment. And, in it, he confused a Trump supporter into silence by explaining Trump surrendered for his mugshot.
In teeing up the segment, Klepper noted that merchandise with Trump’s mugshot on it was far and away the most popular commodity at the rally. So, he spoke to an attendee who was wearing a shirt with the mugshot on it, with the caption “Never Surrender!”
“Never surrender to the tyranny!” the man said, mispronouncing the word tyranny. At that, Klepper asked for the man to clarify what was happening on the shirt, to which he replied “This is his mugshot.”
“Gotcha. So that was taken when he surrendered to authorities to have his picture taken,” Klepper explained. But, he was met with a prolonged silence as...

As the search for a new permanent host of Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show continues, many fans are hoping that the show’s former long-time host, Jon Stewart, could return to the desk. And what could be more perfect than him fronting it during election year as the race for the White House heats up? The speculation comes after show bosses said a decision on a permanent host won’t be made until 2024, which, to many, shows hesitancy in picking a new face. Since Trevor Noah left in December 2022, The Daily Show has welcomed a string of guest hosts, including the likes of Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler, Hasan Minhaj, Marlon Wayans, Sarah Silverman, and Leslie Jones. Some of those guest hosts, including Silverman and Jones, will return for the new season, which premiered on Monday, October 16. Comedian Michael Kosta is hosting this week’s episodes. Other upcoming guest hosts include Desus Nice,...

Roy Wood Jr. surprised everyone by revealing that he was leaving The Daily Show as a correspondent.
Pulling what could be described as a Trevor Noah-style exit, Wood Jr. revealed ten days ago that he would not return to the Comedy Central show, although he kept the door open in case he was named permanent host.
He told Sherri Shepherd that he is now “making sure all my ducks are in a row” in case he doesn’t get it.
He admitted that he could get the job – the process is still ongoing and Wood Jr. has been in the mix at various points, including as part of a rotating cast of permanent hosts – but in the meantime he didn’t want to stay on the show.
“I was shocked at the decision myself because number one, we were in a strike. Who do you know come off strike and then quit the job?...

Leslie Jones and Sarah Silverman are each being given a second week of guest hosting duties on Comedy Central’s still-without-a-permanent-host “The Daily Show,” which has been going with a lineup of guests to preside when not impacted by the now-settled writers strike. Jones took the hosting reins in January, the first week after the show returned to the air following Trevor Noah’s departure. (Noah’s final episode aired December 8 of last year.) Jones is hosting the week of November 13, while Silverman – who hosted for a week in February – returns for her second guest host go-around on November 6.
Jones is said to be on the Paramount shortlist of contenders to land the “Daily Show” job full-time, along with late-night talk show vet Chelsea Handler and Hasan Minhaj, the host of this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. A permanent host is expected to join the show in 2024, specific date unknown.

We now know who will be sitting behind the Daily Show news desk — at least temporarily — when the Comedy Central series returns from its long, WGA strike-dictated break.
As previously announced, the late-night program will return with new episodes on Monday, Oct. 16 — although the show’s new, yet-to-be-named permanent host will not take his/her seat behind the desk until 2024. In the meantime, guest hosts will continue to fill the void left by Trevor Noah.
