girl in red has shared her cover of Talking Heads’ “Girlfriend Is Better,” from the upcoming A24 compilation album, Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense.
Reimagining the funky arrangement of 1983 original in a post-nu-disco setting, girl in red’s take on “Girlfriend Is Better” sees the Norwegian pop star emphasize the song’s grooviest elements while updating it for a modern palette, with an electronic soundscape and heavy-hitting bottom end. Stream the single below.
Along with the single’s arrival, A24 has revealed the full tracklist and release date for Everyone’s Getting Involved. Due on May 17th (and now available to pre-order), the album will span 16 songs, including Miley Cyrus’ cover of “Psycho Killer,” Kevin Abstract’s cover of “Once In a Lifetime,” Badbadnotgood and Norah Jones’ cover of “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody),” and more. Check out the full tracklist below.

Hayley Williams’ music taste is top-notch — and on Monday, she shared some of the albums that have been “keeping [her] company” recently.
Among the albums on the Paramore frontwoman’s list were Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, both of which she had sweet things to share.
About Bey’s country LP, Williams wrote on Instagram stories: “I cry at the same part of ‘American Requiem,’ every time. Showed my mom and she got chills around the same time. When Beyonce sings, ‘If you ain...

Paramore found clear inspiration in the Talking Heads for their 2017 album, After Laughter, so David Byrne’s new cover of “Hard Times” seems like it was destined to happen. The cover will be available for purchase tomorrow (April 20th) as part of a joint 12-inch Record Store Day exclusive vinyl, but you can stream it now below.
Byrne’s take on the song retains the tribal drums of the original, but adds a healthy dose of brass that sets it apart alongside his maudlin vocals. The result feels more celebratory than Paramore’s version, in which Hayley Williams’ sarcastic delivery gives away the reality check theme of the lyrics.

In January, A24 Music shared Paramore’s cover of “Burning Down the House” as the lead single from their forthcoming Talking Heads tribute album. Now, another teaser single from the compilation has arrived: Lorde’s cover of “Take Me to the River.”
Originally written by Al Green, “Take Me to the River” was a bit of an unlikely Talking Heads cut, since David Byrne was apprehensive about recording a cover. Nonetheless, the band’s 1978 version made it onto their album More Songs About Buildings and Food, and has since become a beloved slice of their inventive sound.
Lorde has accompanied her cover with a lengthy note in which she reminisces about her first time hearing Talking Heads and the impact it had on her creatively. You can read it in full below.

In what could very well be the indie-rock collab of the year, Blondshell has enlisted Bully for the new rager “Docket.”
“Docket” is classic Blondshell, as Sabrina Teitelbaum pairs a sugary, melodic riff with brazen lyrics about love on the road — and a chorus that will stay in your head for days. She trades verses with Bully (Alicia Bognanno), her feathery yet mighty vocals rounding out the track.

Together, they have released a new song called “Tennessee Rise” inspired by movements for social justice and equality. Stream it below.

Paramore entered into This Is Why with the goal of both internal and external interrogation. The album asked complicated questions about the human condition that yielded answers that looked like those on the surface, but, on closer inspection, it turned out to be another layer of confounding inquiries. It opens with the title track, “This Is Why,” which arrived with a music video showing the early stages of Paramore’s existential unraveling. In the newly-released video for the record’s closing track, “Thick Skull,” they finish what they started — even...

Known for her biting directness and no-holds-barred authenticity, rising pop-punk star LØLØ continues to deliver with an emotionally-charged new track ‘poser’, as she declares, “Why would you kiss me and pull me closer / just to leave me hanging of of the edge?”
LØLØ plays with juxtaposition on the vulnerable track, contrasting caustic lyricism against a solemn sonic backdrop where grungy, understated guitars meet chilly cymbals to mirror LØLØ’s feelings of loneliness, confusion, and distress. LØLØ uses “poser” to sift through memories of her relationship for answers.
The depth of her emotion on the track is vast, with a patina of understanding captured in the song’s layered outro with LØLØ announcing her ex-lover is “full of it.” LØLØ says of the track, “‘poser’ is about someone who really got me good, who really truly made me believe they loved me, when it later became clear to me, they simply couldn’t have.

The Grammy-winning rock band Paramore slammed Tennessee’s Republican-led House of Representatives and accused lawmakers of “blatant racism.”
The band’s objection stems from the fact that a resolution honoring singer-songwriter Allison Russell‘s recent Grammy win was blocked, while a similar measure for Paramore’s win was allowed to pass.
In an Instagram Story posted on Friday, Paramore announced that they would not accept any acknowledgment or honor from the Tennessee House until Russell is given equal recognition. Paramore has announced that they “will not accept any acknowledgement or honor from the Tn House” for its Grammy wins after a lawmaker objected to similar honors for singer/songwriter Allison Russell.
The group accuse Tennessee’s Republican-led House of Representatives of “blatant racism” after a lawmaker paused a resolution honoring Black singer-songwriter Russell’s recent Grammy win.
The House Republican Caucus Chair who objected to the resolution honoring Russell, Rep. Jeremy Faison (R-Tenn.), claimed “The resolution wasn’t blocked” in a statement.
“When any member has a question about an item on the consent calendar, it is customary to bump it so there can be a vote solely on that item,” he said. “As a member of leadership, I had several members come to me with questions about the individual, which made it appropriate for us to press pause on that particular resolution.”
Paramore won two Grammys at the 2024 awards ceremony earlier this month.

Following Paramore’s first two Grammy wins, Tennessee Democrat State Representative Justin Jones proposed a resolution to honor the Hayley Williams-fronted group alongside first-time Grammy winner Allison Russell.
However, while the state’s House of Representatives unanimously approved the Paramore resolution, House Republican Caucus Chair Jeremy Faison objected to the Russell resolution and kicked it back to committee.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) earlier this week, Jones blamed the GOP members of the chamber for blocking the Russell resolution and praised the artist, who he wrote, “has worked tirelessly to foster an inclusive Nashville through her music and continues to make Black History here in Tennessee.”
In a repost, Russell thanked Jones and Tennessee State Rep. Gloria Johnson for presenting the resolution, calling it a “high honour.”
“That the Tn GOP blocked it, I take as a compliment,” Russell added. “Their bigotry, sadly, is on relentless display.

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has called out the transparent display of racism shown by the Tennessee House of Representatives in blocking a resolution honoring fellow Grammy winner Allison Russell while allowing a similar resolution honoring her band to proceed.
In a statement to The Tennessean, Williams blasted the “blatant racism of our state leadership” while commenting on Republican Caucus Chair Jeremy Faison’s objection.
“For those that don’t know, Allison Russell is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Her music spans genres with strong ties to the Folk/Americana scene,” Williams said. “You might have seen her on the Grammy stage performing with the great Joni Mitchell. Oh, she is also Black. She’s a brilliant Black woman.”
Williams continued, “The blatant racism of our state leadership is embarrassing and cruel. Myself, as well as Paramore, will continue to encourage young people to show up to vote with equality in mind.

Tennessee Rep. Justin Jones (D-Nashville) sought to honor a pair of Nashville-based musical acts for their Grammy wins on Monday (February 12th) with ceremonial resolutions, but only Black singer-songwriter Allison Russell received an objection from a House Republican.
Jones brought forward two resolutions to honor Russell (Best American Roots Performance) and the band Paramore (Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Music Performance). In a procedural move, House Republican Caucus Chair Jeremy Faison (R-Cosby) objected to the Russell resolution.
According to The Tennessean, Faison’s objection meant that the resolution was sent back to committee, “where objected consent items often die.” According to House rules, no debate was required for the move, meaning that Faison was not forced to express his opposition to honoring the folk musician.
While the newspaper pointed out Russell has been a vocal critic of Tennessee Republicans for their anti-lgbtq+ community legislation, so has Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams.

After giving fans a bit of a scare last year when they wiped their social media and said that their future had “a level of uncertainty,” Paramore are back with a new announcement: they’re going to “continue to have a long career in the music industry” as independent artists.
Making the announcement via social media on Saturday, Paramore confirmed that now that their contract with Atlantic Records is up, they’re going to continue forging forward sans label representation. The statement also announced that the band will be official Record Store Day ambassadors for 2024, which lands on Saturday, April 20th.
“After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience),” the statement reads. “Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a...

The 2024 Grammys aired on February 4, and as usual, I have some thoughts. For passionate awards pundits, the Grammys are often best enjoyed afterwards, when you can analyze the results properly and theorize about what they might be telling us about the voting process, the Recording Academy and the music industry as a whole. Here are my five main takeaways.

Pop voters have refined taste
Listen, I don’t wanna dunk on any artist or song, but Taylor Swift’s remix of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice is just not that good, with some simply feeling like the added verse was out of place. Regardless, the track was predicted to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, mostly due to the fact that the original version topped pop radio and all the other nominees were deep cuts and/or album tracks.

Some of those artists, songwriters and engineers/producers also broke long standing records.

Taylor Swift’s historic fourth Album of the Year win
After Taylor Swift’s Album of the Year win for “Midnights,” Noah claimed she was the first person to win Album of the Year four times. That is not exactly correct — engineers Tom Coyne, Serban Ghenea, and John Hanes had won four times before “Midnights” — but Swift is indeed the first woman and first performer to win this many times, following her victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” This historic win is a testament to Swift’s ability to make consistently successful albums,...

It seemed like Lana Del Rey had the best chance of her entire career to finally win her first Grammy. She had never been nominated more times at a single ceremony than at the 2024 event, and when Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for “Midnights” she went out of her way to praise Del Rey as legendary artist who has paved the way for musicians who have followed her. Alas, while Swift has now collected 14 trophies over the course of her career, Del Rey is now 0-for-11. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Del Rey received five nominations this year: Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album (“Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd“), Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance (“A&W”) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Candy Necklace” with Jon Batiste). In 2023 Gold Derby’s racetrack odds missed every general field category — surprises abounded! But this year our odds were spot-on in all four of those races, with Album of the Year going to Taylor Swift (“Midnights”), Record of the Year going to Miley Cyrus (“Flowers”), Song of the Year going to Billie Eilish (“What Was I Made For?”) and Best New Artist going to Victoria Monet. Still, there were 15 categories out of the 37 we were predicting where most of our users were expecting a different result. Did you see these outcomes coming?

In recent years this award has gone to the biggest hit nominated. This year that was “Karma” by Taylor Swift and Ice Spice. And since Swift was also the front-runner for Album of the Year, we figured she’d take this too.

Metallica won Best Metal Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 4th) for their song “72 Seasons,” the title track to their 2023 album. The trophy was handed out during the streaming “Premiere Ceremony,” with bassist Robert Trujillo accepting on the band’s behalf.
With boyngeius and Paramore dominating the other rock categories, Metallica were the only heavy act to win a Grammy this year. The legendary metal act beat out Disturbed, Ghost, Slipknot, and Spiritbox for the honor. Overall, Metallica have now won nine Grammy awards, the most by any metal band.
“I just want to say that Lars, James, and Kirk could not be here because they’re with their families, and families are everything to all of us,” began Trujillo during his acceptance speech. “I live in Southern California, so it’s a little easier.”
He added, “We want to thank Greg Fidelman, our incredible producer, and our recording team.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Foo Fighters don’t take Best Rock Album at the Grammys this year. They’re rock favorites, achieving 13 wins in the field. Most of the band’s albums have won Grammys, and they hold the record for the most wins for any artist in this category, with five. On top of all that history, their nominated record, “But Here We Are,” is perhaps their most acclaimed yet. It scored 86 on Metacritic, their highest score ever. The album is also a tribute to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away tragically in 2022. So history, acclaim and narrative will likely join forces to give Foo Fighters another Grammy win, and one of their most deserved at that.

Paramore eyes some oversized outerwear in the first teaser for A24’s forthcoming album paying tribute to the Talking Heads’ classic performance film Stop Making Sense.

The video includes a snippet of Paramore’s version of “Burning Down the House,” which is teased as the first track for the project that has yet to announce a release date.
In the video, Paramore singer Hayley Williams receives a box at her doorstep and pulls out a gray suit jacket reminiscent of one that Talking Heads singer David Byrne famously dons in Jonathan Demme’s original movie. Hayley Williams and her Paramore band members have a tape they’d like to play for you. Not long after parting ways with Atlantic Records to become an independent rock band, Paramore is teasing a partnership with A24 to release a 16-track Stop Making Sense tribute album inspired by the life-altering album and concert performance by the Talking Heads. While details remain a mystery, the project teases “16 tracks from 16 artists.”
Paramore is singer Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro. Recently, the band created a panic among its fanbase when rumors about them breaking up circulated online.
