A sinister edge emerges from Justin Timberlake in the first official trailer for Reptile, the forthcoming Netflix film directed by Grant Singer. Out Oct. 6, the film follows Detective Tom Nichols (Benicio Del Toro) as he works to uncover the mystery behind a young real estate agent’s murder. Timberlake stars as the victim’s unassuming husband, Will Grady, who might not be as innocent as he seems — after all, any good detective knows better than to count anyone out too early.

In 1980, the auspiciously named first baseman Willie Mays Aikens made baseball history when he hit two home runs in two World Series games, a feat that wasn’t repeated until 2009. That year, the Kansas City Royals player was second in home runs and RBIs only to teammate, friend and future Hall of Famer, George Brett.
Directed by Marcel Sarmiento, “The Royal” isn’t obsessed with Aikens’ on-the-field triumphs. Instead — with a script by Gregory W. Jordan, based on the 2012 book he co-wrote with Aiken, “Willie Mays Aikens: Safe at Home” — the movie recounts what happened to the major league slugger after he served 14 years for crack cocaine possession and distribution.
In 1994, under the inequitable federal sentencing guidelines, Aikens was sentenced to more than 20 years for possession with intent to sell 50 grams of crack cocaine. (He’d have had to be in possession of five kilos of powdered coke to receive a similar sentence.

Now, before you brush it off as farfetched, the 6'5" East is a serious hooper -- he played Aau hoops with Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley and landed a Division 1 scholarship to play at University of Richmond, but was ineligible due to grades.

"Deranged human beings doing awful things." IFC Midnight has revealed a trailer for a film titled 68 Kill, a crime comedy from actor/director Trent Haaga. The quotes in this trailer seem to describe it better than anything else: "a white-trash, punk-rock, blood-soaked romp" and "brilliantly, utterly insane." The film stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Chip, and AnnaLynne McCord as his girlfriend, who comes up with a plan to rip off her rich sugar daddy. Of course, everything falls apart and Chip tries to straighten things out but ends up on a wild ride. The cast includes Alisha Boe, Sheila Vand, Sam Eidson, Michael Beasley, James Moses Black, David Maldonado, Ajay Mehta, Hallie Grace Bradley, and Lucy Faust. This definitely looks insane, like something to watch late on a weekend after you've had a few beers with friends. The opening thirty minutes of Robert Zemeckis’s Flight (2012) represents some of the most exhilarating studio filmmaking of recent years. When the movie begins, certain parameters have been suggested for the film: the poster comes bearing a reassuring subtitle (“from the Academy Award-winning director of Forrest Gump and Cast Away”); the trailer remains curiously elusive, but still proposes some sort of redemptive hero’s journey; and the 100th-anniversary Paramount logo, when combined with Alan Silvestri’s somber piano score, seems to promise an almost unrivaled level of year-end, November-release prestige. What Zemeckis gives us in the film’s first scene is mischievously, immeasurably different: a 7 a.m. cigarette, a swig of stale beer, a joint, a stark-naked Nadine Velazquez, a bitter phone call between a drowsy alcoholic and his off-screen ex-wife, and a line of cocaine (captured in a wicked, formidable Steadicam thrust).

Director: Barry Levinson. Writers: Michael Wallach. Cast: Kristen Connolly, Jane McNeill, Christopher Denham, Michael Beasley, Kether Donohue, Anthony Reynolds and Andy Stahl. Director Barry Levinson is no stranger to storytelling. He has a history of telling tales of politics and humour in films such as Good Morning Vietnam and Wag the Dog. In The Bay, Levinson was again motivated to tell a film based somewhat in reality involving the Chesapeake Bay. Fishing and oyster harvesting have declined in the fictional town of Claridge, Maryland. And, there are a treasure trove of monsters to blame. Levinson keeps the real cause of this catastrophe cloaked in fog, but this director's archaeological viewpoint keeps the visual presentation interesting and sometimes macabre. The film begins with a very normal July 4th celebration in Anytown, USA. Families come together for chicken wing eating contests, fireworks and pool parties. But, there is something growing in the water.

In stunning fashion, the Los Angeles Lakers have swooped under the noses of the New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors and have acquired a top veteran point guard in Steve Nash. The Canadian had been weighing and considering a $36million/3 year deal from the Toronto Raptors and a possible sign and trade to the New York Knicks, which would have paid him just under $10 million per year. Instead, Nash is now heading to Hollywood in a sign and trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, who in return will send four draft picks to the Phoenix Suns.
The four picks include two first rounders and two secound rounders and will give the Suns something to build around with the departure of their franchise player. The Suns also reportedly offerred former second overall pick Michael Beasley a contract on Wednesday.

Everyone and their mothers are talking about the NBA Draft today, because it represents infinite potential. Unless you're a Knicks fan. Forget November, when these kids will have to play actual NBA games (unless you're a Knicks pick!); for now, let's talk about upside. Let's talk about length. Let's talk about reachability. Let's talk freakish athletes. Let's get all sweaty homoerotic with these draft picks.
After a cold shower, we noticed that this year's draft seems to have a much higher human interest on the internets. Maybe it's because any clown can give the draft grades, but that's getting tiresome and worthless. Take CBS Sports, for example; they gave the Sacramento Kings an A+ for making an obvious pick of Thomas Robinson at number five. Also, aren't Robinson and DeMarcus Cousins naturally going to be a rebounding force without addressing chemistry/scoring issues? Also, why are the Kings rewarded for assembling a shitty team?...

Chicago – One way to craft an unforgettable, undeniably adept film is to make a new one. Hollywood views that as financially risky, though, and it often doesn’t happen without being based on a book with a built-in audience or a film that’s already an international box-office success.

Contraband Trailer. Baltasar Kormákur‘s Contraband (2012) movie trailer stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi, and Lukas Haas. Contraband‘s plot synopsis: “Chris Farraday long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy, botches a deal for his ruthless boss, he’s forced back into doing what he does best — running contraband — to settle the debt.”
This not the first time this storyline has appeared on screen. “This is a remake of the 2008 film Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which Baltasar Kormákur also appeared in, featuring a new screenplay adaptation by Aaron Guzikowski.” The Contraband plot reminds me of the remake for Gone in Sixty Seconds where a criminal comes out retirement after another criminal related to them bungles a crime and will be killed.
Contraband also stars J.K. Simmons, Lukas Haas, Diego Luna, Robert Wahlberg, Monica Acosta, Jaqueline Fleming, Michael Beasley, Nedal Yousef, and Kirk Bovill.

Late last year we heard that Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man) was going into production on a low-budget 'eco-horror' film that was originally referred to as Isopod. The basic story for what became called The Bay was said to feature “the aftermath of a viral outbreak on the Eastern Seaboard" and it sounded as if the film would be built from a collection of character-filmed footage, emergency reports and other sources. (The Paranormal Activity team of Oren Peli, Steven Schneider and Brian Kavanagh Jones are producing, contributing to the expectation for something pretty low-fi.) Now there's a new synopsis for the film, which makes things a little bit more clear. Styd [1] has this synopsis: The quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives on water it is the lifeblood of the community. When two biological researchers from France find a staggering level of toxicity in the water, they attempt to alert the mayor,...

High on Arrival, a memoir from actress Mackenzie Phillips, arrives in stores today amid brewing controversy and the requisite appearance on "Oprah". Oprah’s website has been touting the interview all week: “Mackenzie Phillips speaks out on the heroin and cocaine bust, Mick Jagger and the explosive family secret she says she’s kept for 31 years.” Phillips, best known as a TV star on 70s show "One Day at a Time," and as the daughter of John Phillips, founding member of The Mamas and Papas, says she was raped at 14 by a stranger and at 19 by her own father. She says the incest turned consensual while her father and she spent time in rehab. Phillips did her best to obliterate a miserable childhood by shooting, snorting, and swallowing every drug possible. She was fired from "One Day at a Time" because of her drug addiction. This is a post from Popdecay.
