Now that Fox’s medical drama The Resident has hit Netflix, Matt Czuchry’s performance as Dr. Conrad Hawkins is back in the spotlight — but Gilmore Girls fans will always remember him as Logan Huntzberger. He portrayed Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) love interest Logan in Amy Sherman Palladino’s dramedy, which premiered on The WB in 2000 and ended its run on The CW in 2007. Logan first crossed paths with Rory at Yale in the Season 5 episode “Written in the Stars,” and immediately made a poor impression as he spoke patronizingly to her friend, repeatedly forgot her name, and just generally came off as an insufferable rich kid. However, even if you were #TeamJess, it was still difficult to not be at least a little charmed by Logan.

The newest hit medical drama isn't exactly new at all.
In fact, The Resident is about seven years old, and it stole our hearts from the first episode.
TV Fanatic prides itself on our The Resident Coverage. You can check out our The Resident Reviews for every single episode of all six seasons. We also had some great discussions with The Resident Round Tables.
If you're checking into Chastain Memorial for the first time, thanks to The Resident dropping on Netflix, we're pleased to have you on board with this fandom.
You won't find bigger fans of this series than us here at TV Fanatic.
But with all six seasons dropping at once on Netflix, we can't help but wonder if The Resident is a series that falls short of the perfect Netflix Binge.
It's not to say it isn't holding its own.

Following The Resident's six-season run on Fox and in the midst of the series' rise in popularity thanks to its Netflix release in early March 2024, many are looking back to the series and wondering what happened with Nic as she left the story.
Telling the story of the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital and its bureaucratic practices, The Resident featured Emily VanCamp in a key leading role as Nicolette "Nic" Nevin.
Nevin is a nurse practitioner at Chastain Park who later marries The Resident's main character, Matt Czuchry's Conrad Hawkins. She evolves as a character over her five years in the series.

Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) is a fist-bumping, cocky, and beloved senior resident at Chastain Memorial. He know the ropes, he knows the rules and how to break them… he knows just about everything. And to Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), one of the hospital’s baby-faced and optimistic new residents, it’s terrifying. While other residents seem to be rolling with the punches, Devon feels like he’s been put in the ring for a fight he can’t win. Then there’s Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), a community hero — and Devon’s idol — who seemingly can do no wrong. But that might be because there’s a bit of a medical malpractice cover-up going on…
In The Resident, from creators Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza), Hayley Schore (Call Jane), and Roshan Sethi (Call Jane), Devon learns the hard way what hospital life is really like.

Gilmore Girls fans have spent years wondering if a second revival will ever become a reality. The further they get from the 2016 Netflix event, the less likely it seems, but some recent developments in the TV landscape, particularly in the Gilmore Girls universe, have sparked renewed hope. The recent cancelation of The Resident is just one more star that seems to be aligning for a potential reunion.
Fox has canceled ‘The Resident’ after six seasons
Fox has called it quits on their medical drama The Resident. Entertainment Weekly confirmed the cancelation on Apr. 6, although fans suspected season 6 would be the show’s last before the official announcement was made. Season 6 wrapped in January, but Fox remained quiet about the show’s future until now.
So, why does The Resident’s cancelation matter to Gilmore Girls fans? A familiar face starred in the series. Matt Czuchry took on the role of Dr.

Last season, The Resident's renewal came down to the wire. The ratings are middle-of-the-road, and Fox no longer owns the series (since the studio was sold to Disney). As a result, the network doesn't make as much profit from the show and is shifting toward only airing shows they produce. Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

"The Resident" season 6 ended its relatively short run back in January, but Fox waited a long time to weigh in on the fate of the long-running series. At long last, it has been confirmed that this is the end for Conrad Hawkins and the rest of the staff at Chastain Memorial Hospital. Yes, sad to say for fans of the show, it will not be returning for a seventh season, so the season 6 finale will ultimately serve as the series finale.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has officially canceled the medical show after six full seasons and 107 episodes. The series was produced by 20th Century Television and was created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi. It's worth pointing out that "The Resident" season 6 was the shortest in the show's history at just 13 episodes, and that may have, in hindsight, been a bit of writing on the wall.

The Resident might have come to an end, but Matt Czuchry, who played Dr. Conrad Hawkins on the Fox medical drama, has already booked his next gig. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Czuchry is set to join the upcoming 12th season of American Horror Story (AHS). However, there are no details as of yet on Czuchry’s character or how many episodes he’ll appear in. Season 12 is expected to begin filming in May 2023. The cancellation of The Resident was confirmed on Thursday, April 6, three months after the show’s sixth season finished airing. Czuchry played the lead role of Conrad Hawkins, the titular Resident who starts off as a senior resident internist and later becomes a chief resident at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Czuchry’s also known for playing Logan Huntzberger on The WB television series Gilmore Girls from 2005 to 2007 and Cary Agos on the CBS drama The Good Wife...

In The Resident Season 6, before Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) got together, both had other love interests: Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) and Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale). But don’t feel too bad for them. After all, not only did James and Cade find something between them that is fun (and works!), but if the Fox medical drama is renewed for Season 7 — executive producer Andrew Chapman told TV Insider in January they didn’t expect to know until April or May — the hope is we see more of James. Dale looks back on joining the show in Season 6 and ahead to his hopes if it continues. You were a fantastic addition to the cast this season on The Resident and I hope there’s more and that we see more of you. Ian Anthony Dale: I had such a great time on that show.

The end could be on the horizon for The Resident.
According to TV Line, the medical drama does not stand a great chance of being picked up for a seventh season.
"It's essentially done," a source close to the show told the outlet.
In a word? Whoa.
Despite The Resident Season 6 closing with a finale that functioned as a series-ender, there was still a hope the show would be picked up.
While one person's account of the situation can be wrong, TV Line cites "multiple sources" in its report.
More concerning is that it seems many of the show's props are being sold, which is usually an indication that a project has wrapped.
Fox did tell the outlet that no decision has been made about the show's future, but the show's prognosis is grim.
The Resident Season 6 averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.34 rating among adults 18-49.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 11 “All In.”] If we had to describe where The Resident goes with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) after that fall finale kiss, it would have to be “inevitable.” But don’t feel too bad for Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), who does find out what happened between her (ex-)boyfriend and his late wife’s best friend — she might not be alone for long. Upon returning from visiting her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) in rehab, Cade admits she lied about where she was to Conrad. To her surprise, he’s not upset, just focused on what means for her and her dad. But that’s also because he has his own confession to make: “I haven’t been honest with myself or you, about my feelings for Billie.” She asks if something happened. “I kissed her,” he says.

Teamwork makes the dream work, even when it's just two people, but sometimes that's the key.
There were many iconic pairs on TV in 2022; whether it'd be hunting a monster or trying to save someone in the operating room, there were many dynamic duos.
It may be the end of the year, but there is a lot more to come with these great pairs.
These TV dynamic duos caught the hearts of TV Fanatic writers for 2022!
John Winchester and Mary Campbell (The Winchesters)
John and Mary's relationship is inevitable, as fans of Supernatural know, but their story on The Winchesters is much bigger.
They are the definition of "opposites attract," as Mary is a hunter and John is a soldier, but it's why they work so well together.
Even though they've known each other for a short time, they still open up to each other like never before while also kicking monster butt.

After that fall finale, it looks like The Resident has reached a turn in two doctors’ lives that has been pretty much inevitable since a love triangle was introduced in Season 5. Following Nic Nevin’s (Emily VanCamp) death, the Fox drama jumped forward a few years, and by the end of Season 5, it had set up a new love triangle for her husband, Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry). There was Nic’s best friend, Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), to whom he had become close as well, and new doc Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), with whom he’d been working side-by-side in and (with the Go Team) out of the hospital. When Season 6 began, we learned he’d chosen Cade, though he also didn’t know that Billie was even an option at that point. But for every time we saw Conrad and Cade as a couple (and for all...

Making enemies with the new governor (Steven Culp) is proving to be a major problem for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. Betz has enlisted a spy at Chastain and is digging up dirt on Bell (specifically looking for possible lawsuits), and now, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek, the surgeon is served court papers from a former patient while receiving the Lifetime of Service Award for how much he’s meant to the hospital! In the November 15 episode, Bell is honored as “someone who has done more for Chastain than perhaps any other one person. He has saved more lives than could possibly be counted….” And the staff is in attendance. That includes Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), with Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), and her new love interest Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale), who seems to be having a good time.

It’s difficult to believe The Resident is already airing its sixth intense season in 2022. The show premiered in 2018 as the television adaptation of a book authored by Marty Makary called Unaccountable. The book follows the lives of doctors and residents at Chastain Memorial hospital. Like all good hospital dramas – and we know there are more than a few – this show intertwines the deeply personal lives of each doctor and nurse along with the horrible situations their patients find themselves involved in on a regular basis. The main character, Dr. Conrad Hawkins, is a deeply troubled young

As Dr. Aj Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) says to Conrad, he thought he’d end up with Billie, then told himself he was wrong after seeing him with Cade, but then saw that dance… All Conrad says is that Cade wanted to be there but ...

Things are looking up for Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) on The Resident. In fact, as TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the October 18 episode shows, they might actually get to spend time together away from the hospital. Ian did pass the second drug test (though she doesn’t know how he did that) and is operating up a storm, so “fine, I guess,” Cade says. But in happier news, Cade’s finally off nights, which means… “You have room for one more tonight?” she asks. “Always,” Conrad tells her. But a patient in distress interrupts their conversation. When Kit overhears Dr. Feldman (Tasso Feldman) on the phone trying to get an operating room, she sends him to Or 1 and takes over scheduling. “Cancel anything in Or 1 and move non-elective surgeries to 2 and 3. And call the chief of surgery, Dr. Sutton, about rescheduling anything non-emergent,” she orders. Then Kit finds Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) to ask him what happened, since she thought he was on an amputation call. They were, he explains, but after they finished, they heard gunshots and found the victim. They brought him to Chastain in Dr. Cade Sullivan’s (Kaley Ronayne) car. When Kit asks why they didn’t take him to Yates, which was closer, Conrad explains they tried.

Considering Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) is in the middle of a love triangle and her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy), isn’t going anywhere, it’s no surprise that she’s sticking around. Ronayne has been upped to series regular for The Resident Season 6, TVLine reports. So even if she doesn’t have a romantic future with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), her personal life will probably be filled with enough conflict just from having her father now at Chastain full-time. We think that’s really fun and interesting,” showrunner Andrew Chapman told TV Insider after the Season 5 finale. “He plays the sort of narcissistic ambitious surgeon so well [and] we have little hints of character flaws. Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from the Season 5 finale of Fox’s The Resident.
Emily VanCamp made her return to Fox’s The Resident in the Season 5 finale tonight and while it was exciting to see Nic Nevin and Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) reunited, alas, it was only in flashbacks.
Conrad has been struggling with moving on romantically after losing the love of his life and the mother of his daughter, but memories could help him overcome some of that anxiety.
Throughout the episode, Conrad revisits the good ol’ days with Nic often getting lost in thought. While at a stoplight in the car with their daughter Gigi, he smiles as he snapped out of a daydream about a particular date with Nic.
He may never find the magic he did with Nic but he can surely love again and move on with his life, as she would want him to.

He may never find the magic he did with Nic but he can surely love again and move on with his life, as she would want him to.
