Exclusive: Popular Channel 4 panel show 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown appears to be the latest to have been hit by the network’s slowdown.
Deadline is told that Channel 4 has been sitting on the current series since it was delivered last year and there are no plans to record a new series this year.
“We have already shot episodes which are ready to air,” said a spokeswoman. “To keep the show current we will shoot further episodes nearer transmission.”
Channel 4 wasn’t able to say when the new episodes will be shot.
Produced by Would I Like To You? maker Zeppotron, Cats Does Countdown is a Jimmy Carr-hosted mash-up of comedy panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats and daytime quiz Countdown. It has been a ratings success, is one of Channel 4’s longest running unscripted shows and has aired more than 150 episodes over the past 12 years.

Their TV comedy Meet the Richardsons based on their real-life marriage has brought them legions of fans and awards but, just days after its fifth season debut, its stars Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont have announced they are to divorce.
In a statement shared on social media, they announced the split:
“We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.
“As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.
“We will be making no further comment.”
The couple, who married in 2015, debuted their mockumentary comedy in 2020. The show sees them play exaggerated versions of themselves, with other comedians and familiar faces on British TV making guest appearances.
Independently, both are comedians. Beaumont has appeared on numerous panel shows and bases many of her jokes...

“She does them to the best of her ability but sometimes that means she comes across as quite feral, like she’s been brought up by a pack of wolves”.
Not our verdict on comedian Lucy Beaumont’s performance in the tasks on Taskmaster, but her own in the below series 16 cast interview, where speaking in the third person wasn’t an affectation but a requirement.
Nothing about Lucy Beaumont, according to Taskmaster’s Alex Horne and Greg Davies, is a put on. “We initially thought it might have been an affectation to a degree, or a character,” Davies told Chortle. “But the more it went on, we both started to go, ‘No, I think this is how Lucy lives her life’.”

2023 has already given us series 15’s perfect line-up – a gem of a season with Jenny Eclair’s endless joy, Kiell Smith-Bynoe’s cheeky competitiveness, Mae Martin’s cool smarts, Frankie Boyle’s affable bemusement and Ivo Graham’s adorable self-loathing keeping us laughing all the way through to summer.
And there’s not long to wait now until series 16 arrives. The new run of 10 episodes is confirmed to start airing weekly on Channel 4 and Channel4.com from Thursday September 21 at 9pm. That means – interruptions notwithstanding – the series finale should arrive on Thursday November 23, which is traditionally when the next line-up is announced.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. The series 16 Taskmaster line-up comes first and back in June, was confirmed as comprising Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont, Sue Perkins, Susan Wokoma and Sam Campbell.
Let’s have a quick refresher on where we’ve seen the series 16 contestants before:...

The UK owes many of its proudest creations to other countries. Our national dish is chicken tikka masala, the Romans gave us everything from plumbing to underfloor heating, and let’s not even get started on the Royal family.
So it should come as no surprise that some top UK TV shows are based on original series from around the world. Some of these are obvious, like Drag Race UK and Law & Order being imported from the US, or The Masked Singer originating in South Korea, but some UK remakes are less up front about their international origins.
Hullraisers
Lucy Beaumont developed this Hull-based sitcom about the lives of three hilarious, bawdy and chaotic women, which debuted on Channel 4 in spring 2022 and has already been commissioned for a second series. But despite being a gorgeous and all-too-rare depiction of working-class British wit, Hullraisers is actually based on an Israeli sitcom called Little Mom,...

Exclusive: ABC is looking at the lighter side of the natural history world.
The network has ordered When Nature Calls (w/t), a non-scripted comedy series that looks at the funny things that animals get up to in the wild.
It will feature the surprising things that come out of the mouths of majestic beasts, teeny-tiny frogs and beatboxing badgers.
The show is based on a BBC Studios format – Walk on the Wild Side – which aired on BBC One in the UK for two seasons. That show featured overdubbed voiceovers to wildlife footage and featured the likes of comedians including Isy Suttie, Rhod Gilbert, Jon Richardson and Sarah Millican.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has received a letter signed by 50 of Britain’s biggest stars, including Dame Judi Dench, Brian May Cbe, Leona Lewis, Gary Lineker OBE, James Arthur, Thandie Newton OBE, Alesha Dixon, Ricky Gervais, Mollie King and Dame Twiggy Lawson, urging him to implement a UK ban on the sale of real animal fur.
Animal protection organisation Humane Society International/UK which leads the #FurFreeBritain campaign in collaboration with other animal charities, is hopeful that a 2021 ban is possible now that the Brexit transition is completed.
Fur farming was banned in Britain almost two decades ago in 2003 as it was deemed too cruel. But since then Britain has imported more than £800 million worth of fur from countries including Finland, China, France and Poland, where animals experience severe suffering and distress on fur farms. This is a double standard that needs to end.

Here’s the skinny on all those new shows and more. Here’s what arrived in 2019, and here are the new British TV dramas that arrived in 2020.

Jeremy Irons is in many respects the quintessential English film actor. That’s not simply because of the honeyed diction and innate elegance, but the versatility that has enabled him to travel with ease between romantic leading man, edgy character actor and sinister villain, towards an Indian summer of ever-dependable supporting player.

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown will return for a new series in May and, yep, Joey Essex will be back.
Host Jimmy Carr will be back on the show alongside team captains Sean Lock and Jon Richardson and Countdown stars Rachel Riley and Susie Dent.
Once again, Dent will be joined in Dictionary Corner by a host of celebrities including Johnny Vegas, Joe Lycett and Nina Conti. And then there's Joey Essex - who won't be in Dictionary Corner this time, but will be helping out Riley with the letters and numbers. So that's going to go well.
The former Towie star previously appeared on the show in September, when he vowed that he could handle the Countdown clock because he's "a good counter" and strangely got confused about whether or not he was on Countdown.
Meanwhile, Lee Mack, Kathy Burke, Rhod Gilbert, Sara Pascoe and Kevin Bridges are among...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year (again), and as usual it’s getting to those last few weeks before the big day when creative ideas and planning make way for frantic grabs at whatever is left on the shelves after the Black Friday zombie hordes have cleared everything out.
But fear not: because the best of Christmas is watching movies, re-watching old TV specials and trying hard to forget that George Lucas ever decided that anyone wanted a Star Wars Christmas show, there’ll always be a helping hand round these parts for those who want it.
So if you’re buying for a difficult brother, a picky sister or just for the film, gaming or TV fan in your life, what follows is a compendium of the finest gift ideas for this year’s festivities, as usual there are massive opportunities to win most of what has been included…...

Christmas is almost here and that means it’s time for the comedians to release their comedy DVD/Blu-ray because of course comedy is an easy choice for presents during the festive season. Jon Richardson is known for being on shows like 8 Out of 10 Cats and has a certain style which shows just how miserable life can be, but with Jon Richardson: Nidiot – Live he actually reveals that he has some happiness in his life. Thankfully that doesn’t stop him complaining for our entertainment.
For some being happy would change focus to the brighter side of life, but not for Jon. Telling the audience tales such as riding speedboats, leaving stag nights early, and how the sun being out in London can make the last train home a nightmare if you are sober he lets us into his negative but unique view of the world. It’s clear...

Micky Flanagan is the latest star to front a 'comedian and his mate go on a trip' show in Detour De France, in which he and close pal Noel Lynch cycle the route of the iconic French competition.
However, he freely admits that the show is definitely "not a travelogue", and more of a "jolly". Digital Spy had a chat with him about the new Sky1 show, and whether it has made him a changed man.
The show was basically one big holiday
"A travelogue suggests information and research. We did none of those. We were given a sheet of paper and a general route, and sometimes we didn't even use the sheet of paper. I refuse to call it a travelogue because that felt like we had done some real work.

Jon Richardson Grows Up starts tonight, and it sees the comedian and his mate Matt Forde travelling the country in a rather special camper van ("We've shared some intimate times," Jon joked) on a mission to become, well, a bit more mature.
We caught up with the guys in that very camper van - which smells of a musty car boot sale - to find out whether they succeeded. Just how grown up are they? Do they need a bit more work? And who is the more mature? Read on to find out...
When was the last time you insulted each other?
Jon: "I'm average height. You've really made me paranoid about my height."
Matt: "You do me on my weight, you do me on everything, so you can't say that."
Jon: "I never mention your weight."
Matt: "You do the lot, everything. My voice, my hairline, my scabs. Everything.

Alan Carr and Piers Morgan have put water firmly under the bridge after years of snarky comments about each other online.
The Life Stories presenter appears on tonight's (September 12) Chatty Man, with the pair confronting each other over past burns and disses.
"You started it," Morgan pipes up. "You did an interview saying you wanted my job on Britain's Got Talent. That's like saying I want your job as an interviewer. I am available, obviously."
Carr fought back: "I said you were the most annoying man on telly - it got misquoted."
The comic then read out Morgan's previous description of him, saying: "He has not merely an irritating voice, he has quite possibly the most excruciatingly high pitched, whiny, helium-filled, nasal, repugnant voice in the history of mankind, with the possible exception of the Krankies."
Morgan replied: "I'm very sorry for any offence that caused. I was right, but...

Would I Lie to You?: BBC One, 8.30pm
The panel show that would make Pinocchio fairly flustered returns for an eighth series. Fiona Bruce, Claudia Winkleman, Steve Jones and Micky Flanagan join the regulars this evening, and will all have to tell (or pretend to tell) outrageously tall tales in an attempt to hoodwink the other team.
Who performed a striptease at a boring hen do? Who saved P Diddy's life? Did either of these things actually happen? Find out tonight.
Celebrity Big Brother: Live Final: Channel 5, 9pm
The eventful series will finally come to a close tonight, with Emma Willis on hand to crown the celebrity winner. Expect snap interviews, countless boos, and runners-up who will try (and probably fail) not to look too gutted.
Tyrant: Fox UK, 9pm

Jon Richardson has signed up to front a new Channel 4 travel series.
The comedian will journey across the UK to see what it takes to be a 'happy adult' in Jon Richardson Grows Up.
He will be joined in the three-part series by his fellow comic and best friend Matt 'Fordie' Forde on a road trip around Britain, travelling in a campervan and meeting people from different backgrounds.
Richardson said: "Having wasted my 20s dusting skirting boards and devising intricate filing systems for my possessions, I'm determined not to waste the next decade of my life.
"The 30s also feel like a more momentous decade than my 20s - my thoughts involuntarily turning towards more permanent things, relationships that will last and where I want to settle down. But I'm still at an age where I should be enjoying my freedom and taking risks and making mistakes."
He added:...
