- James Peebles was born in 1935 in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He is known for The Universe (2007) and Horizon (1964).
- Co-winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology. His co-laureates are Swiss scientists Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz "for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star".
- He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba, and earned a PhD from Princeton University, where he is the Albert Einstein Professor of Science.
