While we have the talent, facilities, locations and crew, former Village Roadshow Entertainment Group co-founder and CEO Greg Basser believes the one thing that has always hindered Australia from becoming a true global player is "a deep, consistent source of funding" to help cash flow production - but he hopes to change that.

Exclusive: Warner Bros is sick and tired of having streaming sand kicked in its face.
As Village Roadshow heads back to the court docket today to further push Asap on the breach of contract lawsuit the longtime financier of tentpole flicks filed last week against the WarnerMedia-own studio over box office disappointment The Matrix Resurrections, WB have made a rare move to pull back the veil themselves.
After the usual dry corporate statement they issued last week, a Warner Bros spokesperson Monday took the white gloves off:
Village’s actions have been duplicitous and this dispute is equally contrived. Village was happy to have their name on the credits of the film, traveled to the world premiere in San Francisco, and held themselves out to the media as producers on the film. But they have now reneged on their contractual obligation to pay their share of the cost of the film.

Impact Australia is inviting applications for the second iteration of its screenwriter accelerator program, which will take place in-person in Melbourne after being held virtually last year.
Delivered in conjunction with Gentle Giant Media Group, Impact Australia 2 will pair local creators with leading screenwriters, or ‘shapers’, who over eight weeks will help them craft their project and prepare them for pitch day in front of buyers.

“It confirmed what we have long suspected and are excited to continue fostering – that Australia is full of talented screenwriters with stories that resonate with audiences everywhere,” he said.

Imagine Impact, the content accelerator program created by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Tyler Mitchell, is heading to Australia.
Similar to its American counterpart, Impact Australia will pair creatives with highly experienced showrunners and screenwriters so that they can take a project from the ‘idea stage’ through to a sellable screenplay. The program culminates in a pitch day, held with the goal of selling their project.
The eight-week development and mentorship initiative will run in Melbourne later this year in association with Gentle Giant Media Group and Screen Australia – the first time it’s been held outside of the Us. Film Victoria has also supported the program together with all the other state agencies.
Up to 10 writers/writing teams will be selected, and Impact will provide a space for them to meet twice weekly in person with their mentors.

Company sells controlling interest to Vine and Falcon to fund growth of original and existing IP; ‘Matrix’ exploitation on the table.
Village Roadshow Entertainment Group (Vreg) is to develop a complementary business to its studio co-financing activities that will enable the company to initiate its own properties across multiple platforms.
The move comes as Vine Alternative Investments and Falcon Investment Advisors have taken a “controlling interest” and pledged ongoing commitment to Vreg’s Australian parent company Village Roadshow Limited, which remains a “significant” shareholder.
The move will enable Vreg to initiate and produce a broader range of content – the vision encompasses film, TV and digital at this stage – while remaining committed to the studio co-financing and co-producing business, where partners have included Warner Bros in the main, and Sony Pictures.
Vine CEO Jim Moore becomes chairman of Vreg, while Graham Burke, co-chairman and co-ceo of Vreg’s founding Australian parent company Village Roadshow Limited, continues as chairman...
