Despite promising a wealth of live acts featuring some of the latest and greatest in music and entertainment, this years MTV Video Music Awards will not feature a host for the night's events. Billboard originally reported in an interview with Amy Doyle, MTV executive VP for Music and Talent and executive producer of the awards show, that attempts to select a host were going "down to the wire". The website later updated the article to feature an editor's note claiming that MTV later decided to go with no host. This isn't the first year that the awards ceremony has gone sans-host; both 2004 and 2007 were also hostless evenings.

Perhaps encouraged that last year's biggest Vma statement was made by a fashionable butcher shop, not a highly paid celebrity, MTV has decided to make a bold move with this year's host: not having one at all.
Following last year's solid, baby bump-mocking performance by Chelsea Handler, the network, as of early Tuesday, was on a hunt for another big hit, executive producer Amy Doyle told Billboard.
"It's going down to the wire. Hosting is such a unique element," she said. "We feel we got it right by putting new talent on the stage like Chelsea and Russell (Brand). We're really challenging ourselves to find the right person so that the show feels complete."
Apparently, they weren't up to the challenge, as the website updated their story to reveal that there will be no host. Still, that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of star power when the show airs...

It’s Adele’s world and we’re just living in it. Since its release, Adele’s sophomore album, 21, has been No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an amazing 12 non-consecutive weeks – that’s the most time any album has logged at the top since Santana’s “Supernatural” 11 years ago.
And come next Sunday, Adele fever will probably spike as the relatively low-profile soul diva hits the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time ever, competing for the title of most water cooler-worthy performance with the likes of Lady Gaga, Lil’ Wayne and Chris Brown.
Amy Doyle, executive vice president of music and talent at MTV, hyped Adele’s performance to the Associated Press, saying that Adele would “"bring chills down everybody's spine, if not bring them to tears, too,"”

The awards show will also salute the achievements of pop-icon Britney Spears!
Amy Winehouse has never been a part of the MTV Video Music Awards — in 2007, she pulled out of a performance at the awards show after canceling her entire North American tour. But this year, she’ll be one of the biggest highlights when the awards show pays special tribute to the late singer.
“We had a great history with Amy,” says Vma executive producer Amy Doyle. “She was very near and dear to us.” Winehouse performed a rare, intimate performance for MTV back in 2007 for their 45th At Night series.
In addition to saluting Amy Winehouse, the awards show will also feature a special tribute to Britney Spears. “She was having an incredible year and she is so beloved by the MTV audience that we started to think what could we do that would be a different experience [from years past],” Amy Doyle revealed.

Amy Winehouse will reportedly receive a posthumous tribute at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Doyle also confirmed plans for a Britney Spears tribute at this year's event, after reports speculating the inclusion of a video montage of the star would be screened appeared online last week. Organizers for 2011 MTV Video Music Awards have been "talking about acknowledging" Amy Winehouse when the show is televised live at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 28. "We had a great history with Amy," VMAs executive producer Amy Doyle told Billboard. "She was very near and dear to us."
Last month one day after Winehouse was cremated, MTV paid homage to the late singer by broadcasting a special tribute concert which was stuffed with her rarely-seen performances from the year of 2007 when she was at the height of her superstardom.
The footage was taken from an intimate set which took place at Times Square studios as part of "45th at Night" live series. It featured Winehouse singing such songs as "Rehab", "Back to Black", "Me & Mr. Jones" and "You Know I'm No Good". A duet with Mos Def was included as well.
Another tribute for Winehouse came from Green Day.
