In its initial opening weekend, "Creed III" genuinely knocked out box office expectations (and records), its competition, and prior "Rocky" first weekends all in one punch. This third franchise entry sees Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) confronted by his past in the form of childhood-friend-turned-enemy Damian "Dame" Anderson (Jonathan Majors). Following an early situation that left Dame locked up while Adonis got away, Dame reemerges after almost two decades' incarceration with dreams of restoring his once-promising early boxing career. It's yet another memorable performance from the electric Majors in bringing Dame to life, alongside Michael B. Jordan expanding the "Creed" universe as both filmmaker and star.
While "Creed III" certainly boasts great performances and stunningly executed fights, one of its greatest elements is the film's attention to detail, showcasing the filmmakers' love for and knowledge of the sport of boxing. Woven into Dame's arc, character, style, and fighting habits are...

CBS’ ‘Beyond the Edge’ Sent Celebrities to the Jungle — And Producers Were Terrified They’d All Quit
CBS and the producers behind the network’s new reality series “Beyond the Edge” were bracing for their celebrity cast to mutiny. They even had contingency plans in place, just in case their stars decided to give up in the face of grueling conditions.
“I remember in the middle of production, saying on multiple occasions, ‘I can’t believe they’re still out there,’” says CBS alternative series senior VP Mitch Graham. “You never know in a new format, what you’re going to get. We had an eight-episode order in place. My biggest concern was whether or not people would stick with it, and whether we could actually complete a series order.”
Created and produced by Renegade, the company behind Discovery’s long-running smash “Naked and Afraid”, “Beyond the Edge” features nine celebs roughing it on an island in Panama, teaming up and competing in challenges to earn money for their designated charities.

WWE’s announcer shuffle continued on this week’s Raw, with Michael Cole once again filling in for Tom Phillips on last night’s episode; Cole only noted that Phillips “had the week off.” It’s the same thing Cole said last week.
Even more so this week, Samoa Joe was off the Raw commentary team as well; Byron Saxton and Dolph Ziggler filled in on the show.
This has been a recurring shift for WWE. Cole has been the one constant, but in the last year Raw belonged to Phillips, then it went to Vic Joseph when Paul Heyman had creative control over the red brand, and after Heyman was removed, WWE went back to Phillips.
At the same time, former WWE broadcaster Renee Young has spoken out on why she decided to leave the company and let her contract expire.

We all know that things are rough right now. Times are hard and the uncertainty and worry about the world we live in is just unbelievable. It’s often at times of difficulty that we turn to things that help us to escape for a while, and give us some sort of joy or happiness. Right now, if you’re a wrestling fan, then turning to “The Grapps” is one of those things that will bring that smile and joy we need.
Wrestling has always been a joyous thing in my life. When I broke my back and was laid up unable to move after spinal surgery for weeks… I had the people around me, and I had wrestling to keep me company too. It’s one of those things that really does present an escape, and… as cliche as it tends to be, the whole “putting a smile on...

Match #1: Angel Garza def. Joaquin Wilde in the first round of the Nxt Breakout Tournament The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The bigger the entrée, the bigger the appetite. In the first round of the newly launched Nxt Breakout Tournament, Angel Garza and Joaquin Wilde gave volume to that credo in a rip-roaring showdown that prompted “Fight forever” chants throughout Full Sail Live. Garza, an uber-confident third-generation luchador, put his versatile skillset on full display with a series of fast-paced maneuvers that threw Wilde’s innovative offense out of whack, which was apparent when he manipulated a dazzling headscissors from his opponent with a faceplant right onto the canvas. Match #1: Dominik Dijakovic def. Shane Thorne The following is courtesy of WWE.com:
Shane Thorne came prepared for his battle against the dominant Dominik Dijakovic, and he executed his savvy game plan to near perfection. The cunning Aussie relentlessly kicked Dijakovic down to size, then tenaciously went after the big man’s left arm, and when The Rare Breed kept coming at him, Thorne suplexed him on his noggin.
No amount of strategizing, however, could properly account for Dijakovic’s freakish athleticism. While both Superstars tussled on the top turnbuckle, the 270-pound Dijakovic backflipped out of danger and nailed Thorne with a superkick that...

One in five adults in the United States lives with a mental health condition.
This year, Nami is launching “CureStigma” a new campaign that builds on the successful #StigmaFree initiative and positions stigma as a “social virus” that is spreading across America. Stigma is a sign or sense of disgrace that sets someone apart from others. Navigating life with a mental health condition can be tough, and the isolation and blame that is often encouraged by stigma can create huge challenges to moving forward in one’s recovery journey.
“Stigma is dangerous for the millions of Americans affected by mental health conditions. It causes people to feel ashamed for something that is out of their control, prevents them from seeking help, and even takes lives,...

Newsweek is reporting that Mauro Ranallo, announcer for WWE Smackdown Live as well as boxing and Mma organizations, has left the company. Last seen on WWE television on March 7th, speculation has run high as to the reason why Mauro had been off the air. Some speculated it was due to his bi-polar disorder, which Mauro has been open about. Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the preeminent wrestling news organizations in the country, has been adamant since the story broke that the reason for Mauro leaving was due to bullying from Jbl. Citing the March 13 episode of Bring It To The Table, starring Peter Rosenberg, he cites that Jbl's verbal jabs at Mauro for winning the Best Announcer Award from the Wrestling Observer were cause for Mauro to leave. Mauro had this to say to Newsweek about his departure.

Collider recently spoke with Christian Bale about the opening of his new movie, The Promise. Among the topics discussed for the interview, one question that came up was Bale's interest in working in a Marvel movie. His answer may surprise you.
No, I’m not interested in doing that. I’ve never seen — I’m trying to think if that’s correct, I think I’m actually correct, I can’t remember a single superhero film that I’ve ever watched. Apart from the ones I made and like, the Christopher Reeve Superman films.
Interesting comments from someone that defined superhero for an entire generation of movie fans. Yet I think they speak to his skill as an actor as well. Going into the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, a long time fan may have preconceived notions as to how to play the character. Bale went into the movies with his own ideas,...

SmackDown usually feels a lot faster-paced than Monday Night Raw, the 2-hour length seems like the perfect time period for WWE’s writing team. That wasn’t the case this week, the Thursday night show seemed like it struggled to fill 120 minutes.
In true Wtf fashion, WWE management decided that the program should be absolutely crammed full of filler, including so many video packages that it felt more like the WrestleMania Kickoff show. Seriously, WWE aired previews for virtually every bout on the main pay-per-view card, which came at the cost of actually featuring much action on SmackDown itself.
At ringside, Mauro Ranallo and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler seemed to get lost in the throwaway nature of the show, which led to some hilarious commentary lines. As many of these Wtf moments prove, this week’s SmackDown often felt like it was viewed under the influence of drugs.

SmackDown has undoubtedly improved since the turn of the year. Adding the distinctive voice of Mauro Ranallo to proceedings can only be considered a plus, the former Mma announcer provides a more unique flavour than the company drones who would otherwise call the
action. Compared to the past number of years, during which SmackDown had become little more than Raw-lite, the program is on fire right now.
Overall, it’s an extremely enjoyable 2-hour addition to WWE’s weekly lineup of programming. This is something that’s been a long time coming
for the show, and the same could be said of Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler’s recent heel turn. As a villainous announcer, Lawler is a riot.
On this week’s show, he made light of Ranallo’s product knowledge, and it just seems like the guys situated behind the commentary desk are having more fun again on SmackDown.

There’s an epidemic sweeping the world, and Titan Tower is afflicted as much as anywhere else. Over the last few months, it’s as if various wrestling personalities and affiliated staff have discovered for the first time a) what online trolling is, and b) how to block it.
Like enthusiastic evangelists, fervent anti-bullying campaigners like John Layfield and Taz are spreading the word about these toxic creatures called ‘trolls’ and the amazing invention of the ‘block’ button. No longer does Joey Styles have to sit and suffer the slings and arrows of sarcastic wrestling fans telling him that WWE online polls are worked, when he can simply fire off a sarcastic tweet and shout Blocked! into the aether. Mauro Ranallo, the new Smackdown announcer, has taken to using the hashtag #BLOCKParty, which is actually quite funny.
Of course, some of us are just innocent victims of the anti-troll crusades.

When World Wrestling Entertainment revealed that the new name for their February pay-per-view would be Fastlane in 2015, a fair few fans were left scratching their heads. Gone was the lengthy association between that month and the Elimination Chamber bouts, and No Way Out was an even more distant memory. Instead, WWE focused on the literal, citing Fastlane as part of the ‘Road To WrestleMania’.
This year, the main event saw a Triple Threat encounter which promised to solidify who would face Triple H at the promotion’s biggest annual showcase. Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns were the combatants, and it would end up being the latter who scored the match-winning pinfall. Before the event, many people could see this coming, as much as some hated to admit it.

This week’s SmackDown saw WWE bring out the big guns. Reigns, Ambrose, Lesnar, Triple H and Paul Heyman all featured, as well as Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens, Us Champion Kalisto, and Divas Champion Charlotte. New Day also made a backstage appearance, although they didn’t wrestle.
Things are clearly gaining speed as we race further along the road to WrestleMania, but rest assured, WWE haven’t quite stripped their product of Wtf Moments just yet. If anything, they were more numerous this week, with various moments (some intentional, many unintentional) giving viewers cause for confusion.
From the tension between Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose finally boiling over to Goldust dressing as tired hip-hop cliche, the Fastlane go-home show was a particularly bizarre one from start to finish.

At Tuesday’s Smackdown! tapings, new play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo was absent from his post. Instead, Michael Cole filled in, reuniting the Raw announce team of Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Byron Saxton.
Many fans were nervous that this quick about-face signaled disaster for the WWE career of Ranallo, whose expert commentary has been seen as a breath of fresh air. It was especially disconcerting given that the usually Twitter-friendly broadcaster was silent in the face of fan questions regarding his status on Smackdown!
Thankfully, Ranallo’s position with WWE is safe. According to reports (and later, Ranallo himself via Twitter), the 2015 Wrestling Observer Newsletter TV Announcer of the Year was stricken with a case of the flu. He showed up to Tuesday’s Smackdown! tapings in Ontario, CA willing to work, but when management assessed his condition, they decided he would be better served by going back home to get some rest.

Since SmackDown has moved to the USA Network, it hasn’t really changed as a show apart from the addition of Mauro Ranallo on the commentary team. For the most part, there are multi man matches and mid card matches that have no consequence and barely even merit a mention on Raw.
Fifteen years ago, every Raw would begin with a video package highlighting all the big happenings from SmackDown the previous Thursday. Nowadays there’s no need for that because absolutely nothing important happens on the show.
With the move to the USA Network, wrestling journalists and fans alike hoped that SmackDown would receive some much needed attention and the show would become more than just a pedestrian, stand alone Thursday show. Sadly, that hasn’t happened yet so it’ll be interesting to see how the ratings go in the coming weeks and months.

So who’s ready for Fastlane in two weeks? Anyone? So far, there’s two matches announced for the show, one of which is a Us Title match we’ve seen fives times since January 5th. The other is Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar. We’ll all collectively watch on in horror as Roman wins, and goes off to face Triple H at WrestleMania in the least exciting Mania main event since Triple H vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania 25.
Worst line of the week goes to Dean Ambrose saying to Paul Heyman “Who are you calling a nutjob, porky?” Eh, I don’t know. I’ve just never been a fan of reverting to fat jokes when someone makes fun of you. That’s not much of being a lunatic, just kind of being lazy with insults. Keep in mind this line tops Mauro Ranallo...

With last night’s Royal Rumble now in the history books, there was a ton of news coming out of the show. From the debut of Aj Styles and the return of Sami Zayn to the impressive performances by Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose, there was a lot to like in this year’s Royal Rumble. The Intercontinental and Divas title matches over delivered in terms of expectations and after two years of poor Rumble booking, WWE finally managed to get one right.
However, one of the most fascinating parts of the show was how some stars were either used or not on the card that indicates their own struggles within the world of WWE. Some of the men in this list are slipping further down the card and could be on the chopping block very soon, whereas some have just lost their way and through WWE’s presentation,...

WWE struggled to draw a crowd for last night’s Smackdown taping in Dayton, Ohio.
Benjamin Tucker of PWTorch posted several photos that showed a half empty arena, with huge sections away from the cameras tarped and curtained off. On the camera side, WWE filled the seats, to give the illusion on television of a hot crowd.
The problem for Smackdown is that it’s perceived as Raw’s poorer cousin. Too often it is just a meaningless show, and the audience have been conditioned to that status for over half a decade. Paying $70 to see WWE just going through the motions isn’t very appealing.
The company were supposed to be reinvigorating the brand, as part of their move to USA Network, but so far it has been business as usual. They changed the commentator to Mauro Ranallo, but that isn’t really a difference maker. As for the title change last week,...

No doubt about it – SmackDown has improved over the past couple of weeks. Much of this improvement might have something to do with new play-by-play man Mauro Ranallo, whose blend of impassioned and informative commentary has acted as something of a throwback to the days of Jr.
In terms of in-ring action, this week’s show continued this upward trend by providing a little bit of everything. Kalisto and Del Rio brought the workrate with an extended Us Championship bout, the Dudleys and Wyatts enjoyed a pleasingly chaotic tables match, and the main event tag match provided the Raw-esque shenanigans and character development.
However, despite all the good stuff, SmackDown wouldn’t be SmackDown without a handful of bizarre, unexpected, and downright silly moments sprinkled throughout.

These days, SmackDown has a far sillier feel than Raw. It’s sadly become something of a sandbox for WWE’s writers, with segments that would at least be treat seriously on Raw afforded none of the gravitas.
But was it just me, or did this week’s edition seem a lot more serious? Sure, we were forced to endure SmackDown’s usual dosage of “comedy” – providing a rather large percentage of our ‘Wtf Moments’ in the process – but the two top matches on the card seemed like legitimately important encounters.
First, Becky Lynch took on Charlotte in her long-awaited title shot for the Divas Championship, a bout followed by Kevin Owens’ chance at reclaiming his Intercontinental title from Dean Ambrose. Both matches were given a decent chunk of time, and actually reported on in a serious manner by the commentary team. This probably had something to do...

WWE held their SmackDown television tapings on Tuesday night in Laredo, TX.
This was a historic show, as it will mark the official move of SmackDown to the USA Network when it airs this Thursday night, January 7th. Here’s what went down…
SmackDown featured the debut of play by play announcer Mauro Ranallo in WWE. Ranallo has formerly announced in several combat sports, including most notably of late announcing for the Njpw television series on Axs. Ranallo was joined at the announce position by Jerry Lawler and Byron Saxton.
The show opened with John Cena coming out and challenging Alberto Del Rio to a rematch for the U.S. Championship. Del Rio responded and told Cena there would be no rematch, despite the controversial finish to their recent Raw match.
The first bout of the evening then featured Kalisto pinning Del Rio in a non-title match. According...

WWE Smackdown will debut on USA Network this Thursday, with the show being filmed on Tuesday night in Laredo, Texas.
With the big move in mind, WWE had already advertised John Cena to appear on the show, and are now pushing that there will be two title matches on the card.
Firstly, Dean Ambrose will defend his Intercontinental Title against Kevin Owens, in a match that is sure to be of very good quality.
The other title on the line, will be Charlotte’s Divas Championship. She’ll be defending against Becky Lynch, which on paper looks like it could be a very good match. Lynch is super talented and would be deserving of a victory, although a change is probably unlikely. Charlotte is effective as a heel champion, and could be building towards a feud with Sasha Banks.

WWE Smackdown is launching on the USA Network this January, and as part of that change, it could end up being redesigned as a hybrid of Raw and Nxt.
Mauro Ranallo, the former voice of Pride, signed with WWE as a commentator for Smackdown this past week, and has told Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Snowden that “I get the sense they want to make it kind of a hybrid between Raw, the flagship show with all the storylines and great performances from our Superstars in the ring, and what’s happening in Nxt.”
A concept change is definitely needed, as Smackdown has been stale for years now. Ever since the brand split ended, it has been left with no unique selling point. But with the USA move, WWE have big plans to reinvigorate it. Signing Ranallo was part of that, and it now sounds like the actual style...

In a surprising move, WWE has hired longtime combat sports announcer Mauro Ranallo to become the new voice of SmackDown when the show transitions to the USA Network on January 7th, 2016.
While Ranallo is best-known for his association with mixed martial arts and boxing, the lifelong pro wrestling fan actually got his start calling matches for All-Star Wrestling in Vancouver at just 16 years of age. He’s also worked with Stampede Pro Wrestling and was recently one of the commentators for the English language broadcasts of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Mauro spent years as one of the main announcers for Japan’s Pride Fighting Championship and also worked the booth as a member of the Strikeforce commentary team. Currently he calls Glory kickboxing as well as boxing on Showtime and his deal with WWE will allow him to continue both of those jobs.
