While it could be argued that the 2012 Formula One season was one of the best on record, it ended up being a two horse race between the usual suspects – Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
Yes I admit it was a turn out for the books after the first seven races were won by seven different drivers, including a first win for Mercedes Amg and Nico Rosberg. However, from the European Gp onwards it was plain to see that McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull had built the best cars and even a rejuvanated Lotus with grumpy Kimi at the wheel could not stop the same old train running.
However, that said the end of 2012 saw some significant changes: one driver has retired again – that’s you Schumacher, one driver has decided to move between teams faster than Martin Brundle on a grid walk – that’s you Ferrari Simulator Tester Pedro De La Rosa.

Fernando Alonso started on Pole at Silverstone and couldn’t bring it home, but he had no such issue on Sunday in the Ferrari. Harried by Jenson Button’s McLaren until the final few laps, Fernando drove brilliantly to extend his lead in the Drivers Championship. Vettel followed him over the line in 2nd but is under investigation after passing Jenson Button off the racetrack on the penultimate lap.
Button drove brilliantly from 6th, eating slowly into Alonso’s lead but to no avail in the end finishing 3rd pending Vettel’s result. Raikkonen drove well in the Lotus but strategy stopped him catching the leaders, running 2 stints on the soft tyre and only one on the preferred harder option which performed better on the cars.
Sauber once again showed their dominance of the midfield, getting 5th and 6th with Kobayashi and Perez who took a penalty at the start...

Well, Mark Webber is our default pole man after Schumacher is demoted with his penalty. He promised to take pole and win from 6th, but we shall see on that promise. Only Lewis Hamilton has won here after not starting from the top 3 in the last 8 years.
We wait for the lights to start the most star spangled Gp of the year, and we’re away! A lot of hubbub into the first corner as we have a tangle between Alonso and Grosjean, Grosjean slides sideways clipping Schumacher then wipes out Kobayashi. Maldonado and De La Rosa have a bit of a row and the safety car is out as they both retire. Safety car comes in as we head into Lap 4. Heikki Kovaleinen made a great start in amongst that row, jumping up to 13th in the Caterham.
Webber is starting to pull away from Rosberg now, they’ve already dropped Hamilton slightly.
