What We Do in the Shadows has officially wrapped filming on its sixth and final season at FX, and some of the stars are opening up about what viewers can expect when the remaining episodes finally air as TV Insider caught up with them on the 2024 Disney Upfronts carpet in New York City on May 14. Filming on Season 6 concluded in Toronto at the beginning of May, leaving us to wonder, how the gang is holding up following the end. “Very relaxing, cause we were doing it for quite a long time,” star Matt Berry admits. The actor and musician who plays vampire Laszlo Cravensworth celebrated his 50th birthday on the final day of shooting, sharing a photo of himself and the cast alongside a rather epic cake on social media. It was “very surreal,” he admits of the experience, adding, “The cake was amazing.” Costar Mark Proksch who plays energy...

Harvey Guillén, who portrays Guillermo in What We Do In The Shadows, has given us a hint of what’s coming up in the sixth and final season for the show and his character.
“We start where we left off and sometimes dreams and aspirations don’t turn out the way we want them to, (spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Season 5)”, he told Deadline on the red carpet of the Critics Choice Awards, last night where he was nominated in the supporting actor category. “But I think that’s the whole point of rebirth right? It’s like a renaissance. It’s happening again and you take a new direction, new ideas, new approach so I’m really excited for the audience to see a new layer to Guillermo.
Asked what he’ll take away most from playing Guillermo? “It’s never too late to find yourself. It...

Vampires might be immortal (unless they step out into the sunlight ... or they get set on fire ... or you stab a pointed wooden stake through their heart ... or you chuck holy water on them ... maybe we need to come up with a different word than "immortal"?), but TV shows, alas, are not -- not even our favorite ones. So it is that the sun will soon rise on "What We Do in the Shadows," the wonderfully weird and queer -- not to mention often gory and always horny -- supernatural horror-comedy mockumentary series spun off from the cult film of the same name.
Like so many other ongoing shows, "What We Do in the Shadows" was set to begin production on its latest season this year ... that is, of course, before the major American studios and streamers decided they would rather bring the film and TV industry to a standstill...

Last year, FX ordered two more seasons of their vampire comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, which would be the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. Season 5 started airing back in July and wrapped up at the end of August, and we can expect to see season 6 sometime next year. Unfortunately, there’s now a bittersweet edge to knowing that season 6 is on the way, as The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the sixth season of What We Do in the Shadows will also be the show’s last.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX “will bring its comedy What We Do in the Shadows to a close with its sixth season. The series is entering the back half of a two-season renewal that will take the show to its conclusion.“
A spin-off from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s horror-comedy mockumentary film of the same title,...

FX‘s vampire roommate comedy What We Do in the Shadows, inspired by the 2014 film of the same name, will officially end with its upcoming sixth season. Created by Jemaine Clement and inspired by his film of the same name with series executive producer Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows debuted in 2019 and has delivered five seasons full of laughs as the mockumentary-style comedy follows the exploits Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), energy vamp Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and their human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). (Credit: Russ Martin/FX) In Season 5, The Guide (Kristen Schaal) boarded the comedy full-time, playing an integral role in many of the larger plots at play in the now-penultimate season. Executive producer and series director Yana Gorskaya told TV Insider in August that the team behind the show had been in the “early stages” of getting Season 6 when the strikes began.

Put a stake in our hearts: The sixth season of vampire comedy series “What We Do in the Shadows” will be its last according to Vulture.
The outlet confirmed that the series begins production on its sixth season next month, and it’ll be the last season for the effortlessly charming vampire roommates.
“What We Do in the Shadows” wrapped its fifth season earlier this summer on FX.
The fifth season picked up after “Nandor feels his familiar (and sometimes friend) Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo. Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family — or at least, a family — from the Old Country. Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the relative newcomer to this tightly-knit group.

Initiations are a delicate dance. If the welcome party is too genial, too forthcoming, or too needy, they can come across desperate, phony, or otherwise off-putting. But if greeters go the other way, it can feel like draconian hazing (at best) or outright hostility (at worst). The Guide, Kristen Schaal’s part-time vampiric player promoted to series fang-ular in Season 5, faces the latter version when she moves into a dilapidated Staten Island mansion occupied by four long-term roommates. Excluded, forgotten, and derided, The Guide takes her licking week after week, until Episode 9, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor,” when she tricks her housemates into an impromptu vacation, then locks Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) in silver-lined cages and forces them to answer for their abominable behavior.

There may be more to the title of What We Do in the Shadows’ season 5 finale than meets the eye. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) makes some major changes in “Exit Interview,” and Colin Robinson’s (Mark Proksch) questioning means more than just how much the Staten Island vampires will have to pay his successor. The familiar and bodyguard with the Van Helsing DNA makes a choice, but now he has to live with it until he dies a natural death.

Laszlo (Matt Berry) deems his experiments to slow vampiric progression a failure, and orders scientific containment. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the one evolving into a vampire, is the container. According to vampire lore, psychic vampires have walked among us for centuries, a fact that’s made all the more terrifying by their ability to move about in the daylight. These creatures don’t suck blood or turn into bats — they drain their victims’ vitality. In recent years, What We Do in the Shadows’ Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) has become the spokesperson for this particular species, making the more colloquial descriptor of “energy vampire” a known phrase. Now there’s evidence that an even more high-profile energy vampire might be out in the open: beloved actor John Slattery.

Named for the esteemed healthcare establishment of the common mortal, What We Do in the Shadows, season 5 episode 6 “Urgent Care” treats the mortality of two uncommon patients. Each, very differently. The vampires relegate Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) one-story fall and twisted limbs to a flesh wound at best. They are far more concerned with their roommate who is unaccountably off his game.
Poor Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). He’s got a black eye and he is suffering. Not because of the pain of broken blood vessels under the skin, but for the attention he gets for it. [Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “What We Do in the Shadows” Episode 6, “Urgent Care.”]
“What We Do in the Shadows” has never taken pleasure in withholding information from the audience — quite the opposite. Early seasons peeled back vampire lore and unveiled the vampiric council. Season 4 focused on Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as the baby which crawled out of his chest cavity grew into… another Colin Robinson. The Season 5 premiere, after some excellent teasing, answered the question of whether or not Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) had been turned into a vampire, while Episode 3 revealed more about energy vampires with a dazzling guest cast.
Season 5, Episode 6 offers yet another intriguing tidbit about modern-day vampiric existence: familiar urgent care. It’s less legitimate and effective than vampiric bureaucracy, but hey — they’re just familiars. As Guillermo’s vampirism becomes harder to hide, viewers are let in on the secret while the other vampires — especially Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — remain in the dark.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 Episode 5, “Local News.”] What We Do in the Shadows brought its vampires into the light…. of a newsroom studio in its latest installment, “Local News,” after the roommates found themselves in a dicey situation. It all began when Nandor (Kayvan Novak) began oversharing information about himself to a local reporter who was broadcasting about a water main break on his street. With Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) out of the house saying goodbyes to his unsuspecting family, the vampires only made matters worse without him around to guide their actions. What unfolded was the booby-trapping of their home by Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) to protect it from humans, the creation of a nine-step plan by Laszlo (Matt Berry), a blonde makeover for Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and unhelpful assistance by the well-intentioned Guide (Kristen Schaal). Helping to create this chaos onscreen was episode director Yana Gorskaya,...

What happens if the world finds out about vampires?
“What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 5 finally poses that question, and answers with riotous results. “Local News,” written by Sarah Naftalis and directed by Yana Gorskaya, has the vampires thinking they’ve been outed after Nandor (Kayvan Novak) tells a local reporter that he’s centuries old, then promptly runs back to the house to tell everyone about his blunder.
Each character reacts with what is fundamentally a reasonable response to this threat. Life as they know it is over and they think they’re under attack. Nadja (Natasha Demetrious) dyes her hair, tests an alias, and gets her go-bag; Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) insists on taking a final stand and booby trapping the house while he prepares for war; Lazslo (Matt Berry) wants to fight back with his mind, crafting a kidnapping plan that definitely has a second step.

With great power comes great responsibility — unless you’re a vampire on “What We Do in the Shadows.” There in the recesses of Staten Island, great power yields great irresponsibility, great hubris and a great amount of hair-brained schemes involving body swaps, space flights, and sunburn. “You only live once,” Lazslo (Matt Berry) says in Season 5, Episode 3 — and while he’s not wrong, he’s risking centuries of life.
In “Pride Parade,” written by Jake Bender & Zach Dunn and directed by Yana Gorskaya, the vampires become local heroes in Sean’s (Anthony Atamanuik) campaign for comptroller and the centerpiece of his bid for the LGBTQ vote. In typical “Wwdits” fashion, everyone is thrilled with the attention, only to sideline the event with their own personal chaos until episode’s end.
Now in the know about Guillermo’s latent vampirism, Laszlo chooses not to kill Guillermo or out him to Nandor...

This article contains spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3.
Staten Island isn’t known as the most progressive of the five boroughs of New York City. Sean Rinaldi (Anthony Atamanuik) wants to change that in What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3 “Pride Parade.” If elected as Staten Island Comptroller, he promises a platform which can support everyone, and the installment is titled for his most ambitious plank.
Sean is so inclusive, he is not content to draw the Lbgtq+ communities, he wants to appeal to the LMNOPs. To do that, he needs donors who bring A, B, and O, positive and negative, to the voting booths. It’s the kind of infusion only Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), can bring to heat the chill reception expected at a wintertime, after hours, pride parade on the streets of Staten Island.

This article contains spoilers for the first two episodes of What We Do in the Shadows season 5.
After the arsonist’s inferno, neglected fire insurance premiums, and financial ruin which befell Nadja’s (Natasia Demetriou) vampire club last season, and the final growth spurt which marked the return of the once and future energy sucker Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), What We Do in the Shadows season 5 returns to bloody basics. The opening double-header episodes, “The Mall” and “A Night Out with the Guys,” lean into Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s original 2014 comic creature feature film by putting the supernatural immortals in mundane modern settings, and newly adopted olde world recreations.
“We want to be seen interacting with something like trams, trains, and all sorts of different things,” Kayvan Novak, who plays the ancient vampire warlord Nandor the Relentless, tells Den of Geek. “For an audience, that’s always exciting to see.

We all know that What We Do in the Shadows‘ Guillermo has always dreamed of becoming a vampire — but be careful what you wish for, Gizmo.
As Thursday’s Season 5 premiere opens, Laszlo notices that Guillermo is acting strange, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it, “because I am the king of bottoms!” (Ha!) Guillermo tries to make an announcement to the other housemates, but they all tease him for not being a vampire, and he leaves in a huff, warning them: “I’m not going to be around forever.” We flash back to Guillermo asking...

Compared to past seasons, there’s nothing particularly special about Laszlo, Matt Berry’s 300-year-old pansexual vampire, in “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5. Jackie Daytona isn’t resurrected to raise money for the Clairton, Pennsylvania volleyball team. There’s no episode dedicated to Laszlo’s hobbies, nor is there a sudden plot twist that shines a light on Nadja’s much younger hubby. During the first four episodes, Laszlo is still Laszlo, and he’s still very much one instrument in an exceptional sextet comprised of Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and their newest member, The Guide (Kristen Schaal).
But Season 5 still belongs to Laszlo, and thus, Matt Berry. From the first pre-credits’ button (a quote sure to spread like wildfire) to his C-plot ascendance in Episode 4, “The Campaign,” Laszlo is the integral element to his team’s success. It...

If you’re wondering how long the stars of “What We Do in the Shadows” are willing to keep their show going, the answer is “infinity” and “forever.”
“Honestly, I’ve said it before: For me, it’s the best job in the world. I have a blast from beginning to end every year. And every year I’m excited to come back and do more,” Kayvan Novak, who plays Nandor the Relentless, told TheWrap. “Why can’t we be another ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’? Why not? Let’s do it. Just keep going, man. We love it.”
Natasia Demetriou, who plays the vampire Nadja, echoed Novak’s sentiments, saying that as long as the writers are excited about the show, she’s on board. “Infinity. Forever. I’m so happy to be part of it,” Demetriou told TheWrap.

Mark Proksch has been a star of the critically acclaimed “What We Do in the Shadows” for five seasons now, but despite the FX series’ numerous awards nominations, passionate fanbase and longevity, the actor still makes more money off his limited run on “The Office” than he does on a currently running series that’s been nominated for 17 Emmys.
“I make more from one season of guest starring on ‘The Office’ than I’ve made for every season of ‘Shadows’ combined,” Proksch told TheWrap ahead of the series’ Season 5 premiere. This discrepancy comes down to residuals, one of the issues at the front of SAG-AFTRA’s possible strike against the AMPTP.
Proksch has played series regular Colin Robinson the energy vampire since Episode 1 of “What We Do in the Shadows,” which has released 40 episodes and is set to debut its fifth season this week. By contrast, Proksch’s guest starring...

“What We Do in the Shadows” will soon come screeching back to our TV screens as season five will premiere next month on July 13. But before that, season four will hope to have secured some well-earned Emmy nominations. The mockumentary vampire comedy show was created by Jermaine Clement and is based on his and Taika Waititi‘s 2014 film of the same name. It follows four vampires living together in modern-day New York City — Matt Berry‘s Laszlo, Kayvan Novak‘s Nandor, Natasia Demetriou‘s Nadja, and Mark Proksch‘s Colin Robinson. But while the vampires are the stars of the show, the unsung hero is Harvey Guillén as Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo.
Guillermo has hoped to be made into a vampire since season one but instead has remained his master’s long-suffering familiar. While the vampire actors get to hilariously ham it up as people from different time periods, Guillén is the grounding factor.

The trailer for the fifth season of What We Do in the Shadows reveals that Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) does get turned into a vampire, as he has so long desired, or so he thinks.
After season four ended with Guillermo offering Derek (Chris Sandiford) money for the latter to make him immortal, the trailer for the upcoming fifth season shows Derek carrying out his request and biting Guillermo’s neck. However, it seems Guillermo is not able to access his new powers.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight but it’s been 16 days. I can’t turn into a bat yet,” he says as footage plays of him jumping off the porch and saying “bat,” like Laszlo (Matt Berry) does, but nothing happens: He just hits the ground.
Later Laszlo encourages Guillermo to leap off the balcony inside the house, causing Guillermo to fall flat on his face.

FX is celebrating Pride Month this year by giving fans a first look at their favorite queer vampires. The channel has released the trailer for Season 5 of “What We Do in the Shadows,” the critically-acclaimed sitcom adaptation of the mockumentary film.
Released in 2014, the original “What We Do in the Shadows” was directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, who also starred in the film as immortal vampires living in suburban New Zealand. The show, which premiered in 2019, takes the basic premise but translates it to America, following another household of vampires living on Staten Island. The roommates in the show include former emperor Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), married couple Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry), boring energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).

Dark greetings are in order for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) as it appears everyone’s favorite familiar is undergoing some unusual transformations in the Season 5 trailer for What We Do in the Shadows. Set to return Thursday, July 13 on FX, the offbeat comedy from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi continues the story of vampire roommates, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). All the while, Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo is continuing to keep up appearances while he tries figuring out what’s going on with himself after paying his pal (and vampire) Derek (Chris Sandiford) to bite him. Roughly a month ahead of its return, “What We Do in the Shadows” has released its Season 5 trailer. The first two episodes are set to stream on FX on Hulu Thursday, July 13. After that, the series will return to a weekly release schedule.
Last season ended with Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a longtime familiar and heir to the vampire-killing Hellsing family, paying the hapless vampire Derek (Chris Sandiford) to secretly turn transform him into an undead monster. That’s exactly where Season 5 picks up. As Guillermo navigates his new and lackluster vampiric powers, he’ll also have to hide what he’s done from his roommates, friends and master.
“I thought the transformation would be overnight, but it’s been 60 days,” Guillermo says in the trailer. “I can’t even turn into a bat.”
Dejected after trying and failing, he finally stands upright and says, “Human form.”

“What We Do in the Shadows” delighted its fans for a continued fourth season last year as the hit vampire comedy reached new heights in terms of critical success and straight-up laugh-out-loud moments.
Jermaine Clement‘s series, adapted from his and Taika Waititi‘s 2014 movie of the same name, follows four vampire roommates living in modern-day New York: Matt Berry‘s Laszlo, Kayvan Novak‘s Nandor, Mark Proksch‘s Colin Robinson, and Natasia Demetriou‘s Nadja. All four comedians have their own style and brand of comedy that combine to create a brilliant show.
As Nadja, Demetriou is the only female lead and takes full advantage of this spotlight — her pitch-perfect accent blending brilliantly with her skills as a physical comedy actress.

“What We Do in the Shadows” continued to be one of the funniest TV shows around with its fourth season as the series transformed from four vampire roommates to, pretty much, three vampires and a baby. The FX series is adapted from the 2014 movie of the same name, which was written and directed by Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement. Clement created the TV show himself while Waititi stayed on as executive producer. The show takes the same format as the film — a mockumentary following vampires living together as housemates.
Our vampire housemates here are Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). Each of them spearhead their own brand of comedy in this biting show and is deserving of rewards but it’s perhaps Berry who stands out the most in season four of the show.

Taika Waititi's supernatural New Zealand mockumentary movie "What We Do in the Shadows" is a modern classic filled with one-liners that have seeped their way into the public's collective consciousness. That's why it's a testament to FX's spinoff mockumentary show of the same name — created by the "Wwdits" film's co-star, co-writer, and co-director Jemaine Clement — that it's managed to not only stand on its own but in some ways surpass Waititi's vampiric horror-comedy, creatively-speaking.
The FX series centers on a pack of bloodsuckers in Staten Island who are just as hilarious and endearing as those in Waititi's movie, with the benefit of having multiple seasons to flesh out their personalities and expand upon the film's themes. Joining them is Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz, a much put-upon familiar whose dynamic with his blood-thirsty "master," Nandor (Kayvan Novak), is a far more nuanced depiction of a toxic,...
