Paramount Pictures is going full steam with its Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise by attaching some of Hollywood’s hottest stars to voice iconic characters from the expanding Sega series. It broke the internet when Idris Elba said he was voicing Knuckles the Echidna for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I could hear the rapturous screams from my office in Canada as fans of the Blue Blur rejoiced. Now, Paramount is rekindling the fire by bringing Keanu Reeves into the fold as Shadow the Hedgehog for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Speaking about Reeves joining the cast, Idris Elba believes it was his destiny to work alongside the John Wick actor, and he couldn’t be happier about his good fortune.
“I’m a big fan of his,” Elba said about Keanu Reeves in an interview with IGN. “I’ve heard that he’s a fan of mine, and we are destined to make something together.

We’ve known that Shadow the Hedgehog would be appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for some time but didn’t know who would be voicing the character… until now. First reported by John Campea and confirmed by THR, Shadow the Hedgehog will be voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.
The audience at CinemaCon got a glimpse of Shadow during Paramount’s panel, during which a first-look trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was screened. The character first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 as a dark version of Sonic who does whatever it takes to achieve his goals. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has included some unexpected voice actors, such as Idris Elba as Knuckles, so it should be fun to see what Keanu Reeves does with Shadow.

After racing toward the finish line at top speed, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director Jeff Fowler is wrapping up production on the Blue Blur’s latest adventure! Fowler announced the film’s production wrap via Twitter/X with a new photo from the set. In the image, Fowler holds a giant clapper with drawings of the threequel’s primary animated cast, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. The latest addition to the cast, Shadow, takes the spotlight on the clapper, while Tails and Knuckles give the anti-hero the stink eye. Meanwhile, Sonic appears unbothered by Shadow’s presence, shrugging off the new player’s prominence. If you look past the clapper, you’ll find Fowler wearing a shirt saying “Keep Calm and Jim Carrey On,” a nod to the comedic actor’s franchise return as Dr. Robotnik.

I honestly never expected that a Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe would be a thing, but here we are. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 kicked off production last year, and James Marsden recently spoke with The Playlist and confirmed that filming has just wrapped.
“Yeah, we just wrapped, actually!” Marsden said. “I feel really proud of what we created, and the response from the fans, we just had to get the animation right on that first movie, but great family, all positive. Jim’s just having a ball, he’s in his inspiration zone… So it’s a joy to watch him have a good time, like really enjoying it again. It’s great, very lucky to be a part of it, and I think fans are gonna be excited about all the new characters.“

Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has crossed the 400M threshold at the global box office, including 190.6M from domestic and 209.5M internationally through Tuesday. It is currently the No. 8 film worldwide in 2022 and is likely to jump up a few notches as it still has Japan and Hong Kong to release. At Paramount’s CineEurope presentation today, a threequel was touted.
The little blue critter’s sequel initially got off to a fast-breaking early overseas start in late March and added markets over several months.
Its Top 5 offshore markets to date are the UK (34.3M), Mexico (22.1M), France (17.3M), Australia (16.6M) and Brazil (12M).
Domestically, Sonic 2 debuted in April with 71M, outstripping the three-day opening results of the 2020 original movie which had bowed over a holiday weekend.
The first film ultimately grossed 171M overseas and nearly 320M global, but also got its legs cut short as the Coronavirus crisis was just beginning.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is now in theaters, two years after the release of the first film, and sees the return of the beloved, super-speedy Sega character (voiced by Ben Schwartz) once again going toe-to-toe with the villainous Doctor Eggman Robotnik (Jim Carrey) … and his new partner, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). As the box office opens two films featuring high-octane speedsters this weekend, one has emerged a clear victor. Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” looks to top the charts this weekend with an impressive opening between 67 million to 69 million, while Universal’s R-rated actioner “Ambulance” will likely fail to clear double digits.
“Sonic” unleashed on the box office on Thursday to the tune of 6.3 million in previews and has only gained steam since, playing in 4,234 locations. The Sega sequel is outperforming its 2020 predecessor, which opened to 58 million at a time when Covid-19 was still a nebulous threat to most North Americans. That “Sonic 2” is opening even stronger isn’t only good news for Paramount’s hunt for sustainable IP, but it also shows that family audiences are largely ready to return to movie theaters for the right movie.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is the perfect expansion/continuation of the first “Sonic the Hedgehog” film, which became a surprise hit in 2020 just as the pandemic was beginning.
This new film follows a similar formula to the original – silly all-ages humor that includes a dog wearing sunglasses and a joke about a bikini wax, some extreme Jim Carrey mugging, plentiful computer-generated imagery and a modest addition of new elements from the “Sonic the Hedgehog” mythology.
That’s right, this time adorable fox Tails (voiced by video game mainstay Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and the sinister Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) are joining Sonic (once again voiced by Ben Schwartz) for more over-the-top mayhem. If you’ve ever plopped yourself down in front of a Sega Genesis, the memories will come flooding back.

This review was first published on March 28.
For a film engendered to milk nostalgia for a recognizable piece of intellectual property, 2020’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” had more personality in its cast and sardonic bite in its writing than most comparable productions adapted from classic cartoons or vintage video games.
The sequel, completed in record time after the pre-pandemic box-office success of the first installment, brings back its core creative team: director Jeff Fowler and writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller (with additional collaborator John Whittington this time around) for a similarly enjoyable cash cow with some welcomed, if far from revolutionary, idiosyncrasy.
Quill-covered hero Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) has found a home in Green Hills, Montana, with his human adoptive parents Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter). At night, however, he sneaks out to be a Batman-like vigilante without much success at helping people. Thematically, the crucible for...

A certain Punxsutawney groundhog may or may not get to see his shadow each February, but it was in April 2022 we all got our first glimpse of Sonic the Hedgehog’s shadow on the big screen. And for Sega fans who came of age during the Dreamcast’s reign, it was glorious.
Following in the footsteps of the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which concluded with both a tease of Dr. Robotnik’s imminent return and Tails arriving to Green Hills in search of his blue-hued buddy, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 teases a couple of things in its post-credits scene. “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” Paramount’s family-friendly sequel based on the speedy blue video game character, brought in a strong 6.25 million from the box office in its preview screenings that began at 3 p.m. Thursday. The movie opens in 4,232 domestic locations this weekend.
That total is also inclusive of fan sneak preview screenings from Wednesday night in 700 theaters as “Sonic 2” looks like it will get off to a Sonic-fast start. By comparison, this is more than double the 3 million that the first “Sonic” earned from Thursday previews in February 2020. The studio is projecting “Sonic 2” an opening above 50 million this weekend, or between 51-54 million, against a 110 million budget, though tracking is imprecise given the lack of family films in theaters in the past four months.
Also opening in preview screenings this weekend is Universal’s “Ambulance,” the new thriller from Michael Bay that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” — or “Sonic 2 The Hedgehog” as its title treatment suggests — is perhaps the most accurate video game adaptation ever put to film. Not because it captures the thrill of speeding through exotic locales, or even the curiosity of turning a corner and discovering an open world. Rather, it re-creates the feeling of walking up to a Non Player Character laying in wait, breathing heavily as they anticipate the beginning of a conversation made up of two or three pre-ordained lines. Its character designs accurately mirror those lifeless Npc stares, meant to give off the vague appearance of humanity.
This time around, there isn’t just Sonic the hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) fulfilling that role, but his buddy Tails the fox (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and his adversary Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba), a trio of dead-eyed toys trudging from scene to scene without charm or personality.

The final trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is action-packed and filled with new moments. Sonic and Tails flying from a snow covered mountain to a Hawaii wedding. Sonic and Tails fighting against a giant mecha built by Robotnik. More of Idris Elba’s voice as Knuckles!
But towards the end of the trailer, Knuckles taunts Sonic. With audio most likely taken from their big climatic battle, Knuckles insults Sonic with some choice words.
“You’re unskilled. Untrained. Unworthy!”
Sonic won’t take that lying down. He gets to his feet, rubbing the dirt off his face, and responds with,
“You forgot one. Unstoppable.”
That was certainly a cool hero line but from the moment he said it the filmmakers missed out on a chance to reference one of the greatest Sonic the Hedgehog memes ever.

"It's good to be back in blue!" This is cool. Paramount has debuted a new 30-second TV spot for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and it's one of those fun riffs playing off of the other big movie opening this very week - The Matrix Resurrections. It plays up the red pill vs blue pill choice by asking fans to choose between a red quill vs blue quill - red for Knuckles, the new bad guy in this one, and blue for Sonic. They're both on the search for search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. The movie stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, plus Jim Carrey back as the evil Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, and Shemar Moore. "Face it, you're never going to get my power." Paramount has revealed the first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, landing in theaters next April. Yes, a sequel to that wacky fun hybrid CGI / live action movie that they had to redesign at first to get the look of Sonic right. This new one is once again directed by Jeff Fowler, and brings back Sonic and Tails, along with his human friends. They're on the search for search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. It also introduces Sonic's other nemesis Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba. The movie stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, plus Jim Carrey back as the evil Dr. Robotnik, with James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, and Shemar Moore. Of course, horror is well known for having killer puppets. Depending on how you define ‘puppet’, there’s been Chucky, Annabelle, Jigsaw and others in films like Poltergeist, Krampus and Dolls. Puppet Killer is the first I remember to feature a fluffy pink puppet though.
Hat puppet and it’s owner are big horror movie fans though and so obviously end up in a cabin in the woods with a murderer (guess who) out to kill the group of friends staying there. It’s predictable but it’s supposed to be. This is a movie clearly made by people who like their old school horror movies, and as this one is a comedy, they have some fun with it and the usual horror movie clichés.

"I just had this bad feeling but it's, it's nothing..." Central City has released an official trailer for an amusing horror comedy called Puppet Killer, a ridiculous B-movie horror concept following the evil animatronics movie and R-rated puppet comedy and everything else crazy. While celebrating Christmas at a cabin in the woods, a group of high school students are stalked by a psychotic killer obsessed with horror movie icons - which just so happens to be an evil puppet from his childhood. As the weekend unfolds, Jamie's friends are slaughtered one by one in ways that would make Freddy, Jason, and Michael proud. Jamie must confront his childhood best friend in a bloody showdown that will push him to the brink of madness... if he isn't already there. Pulling the strings of Puppet Killer is director Lisa Ovies and stars Aleks Paunovic, Lee Majdoub, and Lisa Durupt. Guaranteed to knock the stuffing out of you,...

A man of his word, Nelson certainly was a character on a mission.
From his dynamic introduction during The 100 Season 6 Episode 11, when he arrived on-screen to find out that he was following a false god, to his remarkable role throughout The 100 Season 7.
Nelson delivered a natural story of a follower on the verge of being a leader to those on the outside like him.
Lee Majdoub took on this character that was an extension of Gabriel's story and managed to develop him in a way that captivated the audience.
It was impossible not to feel for Nelson's journey, one that was full of pain and wants and disappointment along the way. All he wanted was a place to belong, but he continued to get let down during his time in Sanctum.
But Nelson was still an example of a very human story, one that was rooted in moments of...

Things didn’t exactly get off to a flying start with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. When the initial trailer was released, fans were not happy at all with how Sega’s lead mascot looked. Especially his ‘human-like’ teeth it seemed. Personally, I wasn’t that bothered but the filmmakers were it seems, as Sonic got a quick makeover in time for its release and everyone was happy. But with all that going on, is the movie actually any good?
Fans of the games will definitely be pleased. Right from the opening scenes we see where Sonic grew up and we see him run. Most importantly, both of these things feel like they have been ripped straight out of the video game.

Puppet Killer… Where do I start..? As a child Jamie is given a puppet called Simon from his dying mother. Jamie also develops more than a passing interest in all of the classic horror movies and loves nothing more than to watch them with Simon. Cut to 10 years later and Jamie is now in his late teens and heading to a cabin in the woods with his friends. Wouldn’t you know it his old friend Simon cant wait to meet and kill Jamie’s friends in some horror-icon inspired ways.
Wow… Wow. The opening of Puppet Killer starts off strong, with a montage of Jamie growing up through the years with his puppet pal, this block of the film is pretty...

Earlier last month, The 100 fandom got together in Vancouver for Unity Days 2020 to celebrate the final season of the show and to enjoy the fan-created convention once again.
With the final season still filming, there wasn't much that could be shared by the cast. In fact, everything has been very secret this time around, and we haven't even gotten a premiere date or the promise of a potential trailer.
But that is the appeal of a convention, to give fans and cast members the chance to see one another and reflect on the legacy of the show together.
That is exactly what happened from January 24th through January 26th, with fans and the cast alike spending the weekend together talking about their love for the show and their excitement for The 100 Season 7.
Cast members in attendance included Eliza Taylor (Clarke Griffin), Bob Morley (Bellamy Blake), Chuku Modu (Gabriel Santiago...

There are a plethora of really shitty movies based on video games being released each year. None of them holding a candle to the source material it is based on. However each and every time I get suckered in because I want to be impressed by these attempts, as a movie fan and a gamer I need to be impressed. And let’s be honest, the premise of the Dead Rising games is just about absurd enough to work as a movie and with this being the second outing well have they learnt.

Possible spoilers ahead. *Seriously, don't read, if you haven't seen the movie*
When I first heard about Jen and Sylvia Soska (re: Soska Twins/The Soskas), I admit I had never seen their work. I had zero idea about who they were, or how they had come to Indie Horror prominence, yet once I started hearing their names, it became almost a daily occurrence.
Something about this concerned me, though, because the first thing I heard about them was, “Have you seen 'American Mary'? They're awesome for female Directors! Their stuff can lean a bit extreme feminist at times, but, they're not bad, at all!” – and that didn't quite sit well, with me. The way their work was described was almost 'man-hating', and for obvious reasons, I found myself hesitant to seek out their work.

WWE Studios have some success and some failure with their releases but with See No Evil the reception was definitely mixed. One of their earliest movies it used Glen “Kane” Jacobs in the role of the psychotic killer Jacob Goodnight and I will admit to liking it, it had its flaws but it was fun a fun horror with plenty of gore. When the See No Evil 2 was announced it caught the attention of horror fans with the Soska Sisters were taking the reigns as directors and bringing scream queens Danielle Harris and Katharine Isabelle with them as part of the cast.
Following straight on from the first See No Evil, Jacob Goodnight is brought...
