Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has launched development on What Kids Want, a new feature scripted by the Like a Boss duo of Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly, sources tell Deadline.
The film follows up the high concept comedies What Women Want (2000), starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, and What Men Want (2019), starring Taraji P. Henson and Tracy Morgan, both of which were distributed by Paramount. While the former centered on a man suddenly gifted (or cursed?) with the ability to hear the thoughts of women, the latter reversed the equation. The new film will, of course, involve a look into the minds of children.
Todd Garner will produce for Broken Road Productions, alongside Gina Mathews and Grant Scharbo for Little Engine Entertainmemt. Matthews comes to the project after producing What Women Want, along with such rom-coms as 13 Going on 30, All My Life (alongside Garner) and Isn’t It Romantic?...

The time really is perfect for a film like Like A Boss, a movie about two female friends testing their sisterhood bond when challenged with a big money job that might make their business hit big in the cosmetics industry. With the awesome strength of women being at the core of so many successful and acclaimed motion pictures of late, this could be another offering that has a lot to say about the modern woman. Plus, with a strong cast, it seems like a winning formula? Right? Why is it then, that this film comes limping into its UK release off the back of some woeful reviews Stateside, and an equally limp box office taking? Is this an unfairly judged diamond, or is it a messy misfire? Sadly, I must report it is more the latter… only much worse.

The trick to creating successful screen farce is to make sure audiences don’t see you sweat. So it’s not a good sign that the actors are spritzing up a storm in Like a Boss. But what actors! The comic tornado known as Tiffany Haddish seizes the role of Mia Carter, the creative wiz behind a Diy cosmetics company she runs with her numbers-minded best friend, Mel Paige, played by her up-for-anything costar Rose Byrne. The duo work their butts off for laughs that the putatively femcentric script by two first-time screenwriters,...

Its economic message might be fuzzy. Its feminism, too. But best-friend comedy “Like a Boss” rides Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrnes’s frisky and believable chemistry to laughs — some worn, some crude, but more than a few delivered deftly and consistently enough to keep audiences smiling if not doubled over.
The two share the house Mia inherited, the one where Mel came to live as a teen when her own family cratered. They were enterprising girls who grew into inventive businesswomen, all the while remaining best friends. They complete each other. Yes, in the rom-com sense, the film — directed by Miguel Arteta — makes clear. Friendship can be one of the great romances, after all.
Owners of their own cosmetics line and boutique, Mia and Mel’s deep affection is tested when cosmetics titan Claire Luna, played by Salma Hayek, swoops in to invest in their self-named company. They are nearly $500,000 in debt,...

It’s never good when you can figure out exactly what will happen in a movie — from the conflict to the pat resolution — within the first 15 minutes. But director Miguel Arteta’s new friendship comedy “Like a Boss” is just like that.
Aside from the charming chemistry between leads Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne, the film is a mostly forgettable romp that throws together recycled themes of female entrepreneurship, friendship, and rivalry without making any real impact. It’s a shame, too, because Byrne gets to revive some of her great comedic timing from “Bridesmaids” and goes toe-to-toe with Haddish’s larger-than-life personality; it’s no easy feat, but Byrne nails it. You can tell the two are having fun together, but the movie itself is way too basic to become truly enjoyable.

There is something incredibly telling about the fact that two men wrote Like a Boss, a lighthearted comedy about finding your person (be that a friend or significant other) wrapped up in a shallow satire of the cosmetics industry. And while Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly’s script has a few chuckles, with stars Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne, and Salma Hayek committing to their bits like a Sephora expert determined to send their client out into the world with her dream look, none of it sticks. In fact, I kind of hate it.
Mia (Haddish) and Mel (Byrne) are high school besties turned codependent adults, and they love nothing more than to echo Grey’s Anatomy’s most enduring catchphrase while nevertheless demonstrating there’s a...

Universal could not have set it up any better for the wide release of Sam Mendes’ “1917.” After grossing over $2 million from a two-week limited release run, the DreamWorks-produced World War I film is set to go wide on Friday days after winning Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes.
The most recent round of tracking has the awards contender projected to earn around $25 million this weekend, with Universal eyeing $20 million. But the Globes victory has kicked audience awareness and word of mouth into overdrive, and a $30 million-plus start is very possible if interest expands beyond its core demographic of audiences over age 55. Online ticket sellers are already reporting a big spike in advance sales, with Fandango reporting that “1917” was second only to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in sales on Monday.

In the trailer for “Like a Boss,” Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne play two best friends rising in the fashion industry who turn to a beauty queen played by Salma Hayek for help, only for things to get ugly fast.
Haddish and Byrne have a successful business, but they’re deep in debt. And though Hayek motivates them to take charge, she’s really just out to steal their ideas and business. Soon they’re throwing punches, dangling from perilous railings and even smashing breasts together as they all try to prove they’re the boss.
“You don’t have to worry your pretty little head,” Haddish says to Hayek. “My head is not little. It’s just that my breasts are humongous,” she replies.

NBC has given a script commitment plus penalty for a half-hour single camera comedy from Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman’s Brownstone Productions, Black List scribes Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly and Warner Bros. Television. Co-written and executive produced by Pitman and Cole-Kelly, the untitled project centers on a 30-something father who’s trying to navigate his life a year after his wife suddenly dies: how to live, date, parent, etc., all with the unrelenting…...

You steal enough scenes as a supporting player, and eventually they begin building movies around you. That’s happening for Adam Devine, who has just made a deal at New Line to star in Paternity Leave, which Todd Strauss-Schulson is set to direct. Adam Cole-Kelly and Sam Pitman wrote the most recent draft. This comes after Devine’s showy roles in the Pitch Perfect films and The Intern. He’ll next be seen starring with Zac Efron in the Fox comedy Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dat…...

I just heard about an interesting pitch that apparently just sold to Fox. The writing duo of Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly pitched a comedy called Premature Maturation, which is essentially the Tom Hanks movie Big, but with an ensemble of middle school kids who transform into adults and get into crazy misadventures ala The Hangover. Talk about high concept. Word on the tracking boards is the pitch sold for mid-six figures. Pitman and Cole-Kelly will likely pen the script. No director or cast is attached. Pitman and Cole-Kelly sold another pitch in November of 2009 to Paramount for an R-rated comedy titled The Misadventures of Fluffy. That project has been described as a road trip through New York featuring talking animals featuring "an element of social comedy reminiscent of the 1980’s film Trading Places." Eddie Murphy is producing, and Pitman and Cole-Kelly are writing the screenplay.

Eddie Murphy is attached to produce and may also star in the buddy comedy “The Misadventures of Fluffy." The project comes is being set up at Paramount and is from a pitch by Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly. The R-rated comedy is being described as a roadtrip comedy through New York which apparently features talking animals and also has an element of social comedy like 1980's "Trading Places." I don't know so much about this one... According to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders emphasize that Murphy is not formally attached to star at this point. Murphy was last seen in the heartwarming "Imagine That" for Paramount. Prior to that he starred in "Meet Dave." Future projects include "Shrek Forever After" which is in post-production phase and the completed "A Thousand Words" which Brian Robbins helmed. The latter also stars Cliff Curtis, Kerry Washington and Allison Janney.

Word has just reached us that comedic actor Eddie Murphy is about to set up his production skills because we hear Murphy is set to produce and possibly star in a new film titled The Misadventures of Fluffy produced by Paramount Pictures.
We hear the film features talking animals which may or may not be a good idea because the film will evoke memories of Murphy's very popular Dr. Doolittle franchise, except this film is set to be an R rated film.
Murphy could potentially star in the film, but as it stands now, his only formal attachment is as a producer. Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly sold the pitch for the comedy and will write the script.
In other Murphy news, he is also set to sign on to star in Trump Heist and Shrek Forever After. Stay tuned hear for more info as the story develops.

The guy was on fire. Then, kids and fat suits and talking animals entered his life and things have never been the same. There's nothing wrong with family movies. If that's all he wanted to make fo the rest of his life, then fine. Just make sure that they are good, huh Ed? Which brings me to the key phrase in the description for "Fluffy.

If talking animals worked before to get butts into theater seats to watch Eddie Murphy as Doctor Doolittle, why not do it again? Paramount Pictures has a project in the formative stages called The Misadventures of Fluffy, a family-fantasy comedy in which Murphy would play one-half of an animal buddy team that goes on a journey through New York City. THR describes the logline as a "social comedy reminiscent of Murphy’s 1980's hit Trading Places." Cool. So that means there's a nude scene with Jamie Lee Curtis in it, right?
Eddie needs a hit these days. Imagine That bombed this summer, Meet Dave bombed when it came out last summer and while Norbit did Ok at the box office, that was almost three years ago now. The Shrek movies keep Murphy's mortgage payments in check but the man can't live on telling Donkey jokes alone.

Eddie Murphy could be headed back to one of his comfort zones, signing on to produce and possibly star in The Misadventures Of Fluffy for Paramount. But wait! Though it sounds like a typical Murphy-flavoured family comedy, it's apparently an R-rated outing pitched by writers Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly which will chronicle a road trip through New York for talking critters. And according to the Risky Business Blog, it's got a vein of Trading Places-style social satire running through it too. So while he's ditching edgier fare like...

Remember the days before Eddie Murphy starting churning out family comedy after family comedy? Those days could soon be returning. Paramount are looking for writers for Beverly Hills Cop 4, and Murphy is attached (currently only as producer, but we'll see) to The Misadventures of Fluffy. Which is not what it sounds like.Fluffy is, at the moment, developing as an R-rated comedy, again for Paramount. Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly (behind Tyler Perry's mooted The Diversification of Noah Miller) are currently writing the script, which is reportedly a social buddy-comedy a la Trading Places, about a journey across New York. Featuring talking animals.Talking animals have worked for Murphy before of course, to the tune of half a billion in box office for the Dr Doolittle films. But this sounds like rather a different proposition, and we hope to see him in front of the camera on this one,...
