Uh-oh, is there a Chicago Fire divorce in the future?! Unfortunately, it’s not something we can rule out completely. While Cruz (Joe Minoso) has thrived at work, including filling in as leader of Squad while Severide (Taylor Kinney) was away earlier this season (despite the conflict that arose upon the other firefighter’s return), his home life is a different story. Chloe (Kristen Gutoskie) wants them to go to couples therapy, but some of their troubles stem from things he can’t change about his work. In the May 15 episode, “Under Pressure,” their problems come to a head. “Cruz and Chloe will come to a big realization in episode 1212 about what’s been eating away at their relationship, and once they put this fine point on it, they’ll have to see if and how they can manage it,” executive producer Andrea Newman tells TV Insider. “They love each other,...

Unfortunately for all Chicago Fire viewers, the show's cast has undergone quite a few changes since season 1. A good half of the original characters introduced in the show's pilot have been let go.
And while some of them, like Gabriela Dawson, have been peacefully written off and sent overseas, others, like Leslie Shay and Otis Zvonecek, have met darker ends.
While NBC's firefighter hit isn't known for being as gruesome as Grey's Anatomy when it comes to killing off characters, both Shay and Otis' deaths left a big impression on viewers. While Lauren German, who portrayed Shay, almost immediately moved on to Fox's supernatural hit Lucifer, Yuriy Sardarov, who portrayed Otis, has been a bit more reserved.

Novak stepped in after Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) sent Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh) packing. Lennox didn’t fit at Firehouse 51, as the team sought a replacement for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer).

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 6 “Port in the Storm.”] Chicago Fire said goodbye to Kara Killmer and her character, Brett, in style, with her and Casey’s (Jesse Spencer) wedding. First up, however, is telling Casey about the location of their wedding, a fish store—which maid of honor Violet (Hanako Greensmith) promises to make sure is in amazing shape—but as he assures Brett when he finds out, “I don’t care where we get married, Sylvie. As long as it’s you and me there, we’re all good.” But for a moment, it looks like his best man might not make it. Kidd’s (Miranda Rae Mayo) worried when her texts to Severide (Taylor Kinney) go unanswered, and she even lies to Cruz (Joe Minoso) and claims he said his flight was delayed. Chicago Fire fans had to watch Kelly Severide leave again on Wednesday night.
Severide left Chicago Fire in Season 11 under similar circumstances – he wanted to pursue his love for arson investigations.
When it happened last season, the writers were responding to actor Taylor Kinney’s request for a leave of absence from the show.
Severide went to Alabama to receive intensive training to become even better at investigating arsons, but he left the training to join a task force.
Stella Kidd (played by Miranda Rae Mayo) had to track him down and bring her husband back to Chicago.
This time, Kidd balked at first to Severide leaving Chicago again, but she eventually relented, and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) stepped into Severide’s spot again.

With Severide back, however, Cruz has decided it’s time for him to take the lieutenant test—and leave 51. And as this episode begins, Boden (Eamonn Walker) pulls Cruz aside to tell him he’s confirmed for the test coming up at the end of the month. “You gotta chart your own course. You earned that right,” he says when he notices Cruz look over to Severide. When Kidd checks in with Cruz, he says Severide “basically said sorry not sorry for going Awol” and shares what he said about not standing in his way if he wanted to lead his own unit.

Change is coming to Chicago Fire. Two more cast members are leaving the NBC drama in season 12. Kara Killmer and Alberto Rosende are exiting the series, following the departure of Jesse Spencer as a full-time cast member in season 10. What’s behind the cast exodus? Showrunner Andrea Newman recently weighed in on the show’s evolution.
‘Things need to change,’ says ‘Chicago Fire’ showrunner
While saying goodbye to beloved characters like Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett might be hard for fans, closing the door on some stories is necessary to keep the show fresh, Newman said in a recent interview with TVLine.
“Honestly, longevity is really just part of it,” she said. “[In] storytelling and in terms of real life, 12 years is a long time, and things need to change, just dynamic-wise. You want new characters, and you want new dynamics.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 2 “Call Me McHolland.”] Chicago Fire Season 12 is the season of change, and Firehouse 51 has already said goodbye to one firefighter (and will be doing so to a paramedic soon), but the stage is now set for another to leave. When Severide (Taylor Kinney) left for an arson investigation program (then to work with Atf) last season, it was Cruz (Joe Minoso) who led Squad in his absence. But with his return, Severide clearly expected everything to just go back to how it was, something that Cruz is finding difficult. After all, he’s been the one making calls, and Severide telling him not to “freelance” after he took somewhat of a risk to get a drone didn’t sit well with the other firefighter. That led to Cruz going to Boden (Eamonn Walker) about taking the lieutenant test because “it’s time for me to leave 51 and run my ...

As great as it is to have Severide (Taylor Kinney) back on Chicago Fire in Season 12, he does have some relationships to fix after the way he left and the lack of communication about not only where he was but also how long he’d be gone. The premiere showed him and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) beginning to work on that (while still bringing the heat). And now, there’s some clear tension between the two. “For three months, I covered for him,...
