Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not take kindly to Sen. Chuck Schumer’s (D-n.Y.) speech on the Senate floor last week where he called for Israel to hold elections once the current assault on Gaza winds down.
“What he said is totally inappropriate. It’s inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there,” the Israeli prime minister said in an interview on CNN’s State of the Union that aired Sunday.
“That’s for the Israeli people to decide. I think it’s ridiculous.

Elon Musk has offered his Starlink advanced satellite system to support internationally recognized aid organizations working in Gaza, following a communications outage as Israel steps up its military campaign in the territory.
Palestinian telecommunications company Paltel announced on Friday night that all landline, mobile and internet had been lost on the Gaza Strip after the Israeli bombing destroyed remaining fiber routes serving the territory.
The Israeli military action is in response to horrific terror attacks carried out by Palestinian extreme militant group Hamas in Southern Israel on October 7, which killed 1,400 people and resulted in more than 220 people being taken hostage.
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Saturday that the military operation in Gaza Strip had entered a “new phase.”
Aid organizations, emergency services and media outlets operating on the Gaza Strip said the communications outage was severely hampering their work.

There has been a lot of news since Last Week Tonight with John Oliver last aired in November, such as the launch of the vaccine rollout, Wall Street’s Game Stop extravaganza and a week-long obsession with sea shanties — whatever that was about. That said, Oliver decided to usher in season 8 with one of the most pressing news stories from last week: Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
“Democrats put on a compelling forensic case about Trump’s clear role as an instigator of the January 6 riots and in response, his attorneys mounted a defense that could charitably be characterized as ‘incoherent’ with lowlights ranging from one attorney reminiscing about his childhood record collection to another subjecting the senate to an 11 minute video of Democrats simply using the word ‘fight’,” said Oliver. It might have seemed that they might weren’t trying very hard but that might be because they didn’t really have to.

At a moment when the difference in values between Senator John McCain and outgoing President Donald Trump could not be in sharper contrast, Stampede Ventures plans to turn the Arizona Senator’s sprawling life story into a feature film. They optioned rights to three books by McCain biographer Mark Salter: The Luckiest Man: Life With John McCain, Faith of My Fathers and Worth the Fighting For. Salter will write the script with Craig Turk, whose credits include FBI, The Good Wife and The Code and who served as Chief Legal Counsel to McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign. The film project has the support of the late Senator’s widow Cindy McCain — she will be exec producer — and the McCain family. Led by former Warner Bros production chief Greg Silverman, Stampede Ventures optioned the books and will finance development of the script.

We’ve lived for the past four years under a man categorically unfit to be president. Fortunately for America, Joe Biden is Donald Trump’s opposite in nearly every category: The Democratic presidential nominee evinces competence, compassion, steadiness, integrity, and restraint. Perhaps most important in this moment, Biden holds a profound respect for the institutions of American democracy, as well as a deep knowledge about how our government — and our system of checks and balances — is meant to work; he aspires to lead the nation as its president, not its dictator.

Cindy McCain and the co-hosts of “The View” dragged President Trump this morning over the maskless rally he hosted in Florida last night despite testing positive for Covid-19 less than two weeks ago.
“Listen, to me it’s a simple discussion. It’s all about arrogance and ego,” McCain said. “This is not presidential. This has everything to do with a personal agenda, and that’s why we need a change.”
The widow of former Arizona Senator John McCain and mother “View” co-host Meghan McCain, who is out for maternity leave, continued with a pitch for her candidate, Joe Biden.
“That’s exactly why we need Joe Biden in the White House: to stop this and act with character and dignity and leadership and empathy, more importantly,” she said. “We’ve lost over 200,000 people in this country to Covid, and still, he does things like this in Florida. It’s outrageous.

Cindy McCain, the widow of John McCain, appeared on all three network morning shows to endorse Joe Biden.

Joe Biden said today that Cindy McCain is going to officially endorse him in the ex-Vice-President’s bid to toss Donald Trump out of the White House.
“Maybe I shouldn’t say it but I’m about to go on one of these Zooms with John McCain’s wife, who is first time ever is endorsing me because of what he talks about with my son and John’s who are heroes, who served their country, you know he said they’re losers, they’re suckers,” Biden remarked at the end of a virtual fundraiser on Tuesday.

Director Davis Guggenheim is no stranger to shooting films for the Democratic National Convention, the “An Inconvenient Truth” helmer and Co-founder of Concordia Studio has worked on campaign biofilms as far back as 2008 with then-candidate Barack Obama.
He has since filmed segments for the 2012 and 2016 campaigns, but in 2020 things were different. There was a global pandemic and the Democratic National Convention was going virtual. Despite the remote complications that quarantine production schedule entailed, Guggenheim leapt at the chance. The director knew these short films were of the utmost importance.
In an exclusive conversation with Variety, Guggenheim discusses how imperative it was to show the authentic Joe Biden to American voters.

Democrats added another Republican to their lineup of speakers at the convention on Tuesday: Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State under George W. Bush.
Powell already endorsed Biden, and he also backed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Barack Obama in his 2008 and 2012 campaigns. But this is the first time that he has spoken at a Democratic convention.
“Our country needs a commander in chief who takes care of our troops, in the same way he would his own family,” Powell said in a clip released on Tuesday. “For Joe Biden, that doesn’t need teaching. It comes from the experienced he shares with millions of military families, sending his beloved son off to war and praying to God he would come home safe.”

Cindy McCain is lending her voice to a video to be shown at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday evening that highlights the friendship between her late husband, John McCain, and Joe Biden.

John McCain was the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, and Cindy McCain’s appearance reflects the extent to which Donald Trump has shaken up the political world. The Arizona senator did not endorse Trump in 2016, and the president was not invited to his funeral in 2018.

President Donald Trump has not seen a doctored video shown to his supporters at one of his resorts in which he is depicted gunning down members of the media and other critics, but based on “everything he has heard, he strongly condemns the video,” White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham wrote on Twitter.
The video was shown last week at a three-day conference of the president’s supporters at the Trump National Doral Miami, the New York Times reported Sunday evening.
In his morning tweets, Trump did not address the video. He did urge followers to vote for Sean Spicer, his former press secretary, on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Spicer is set to appear again on Monday night.
The video includes a logo for Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign and shows the gunman walking through a church, shooting, stabbing and beating members of the news media, celebrities, and Trump’s political rivals.

It's been almost two years since Meghan McCain joined The View as co-host. However, the 34-year-old TV star initially had some reservations about signing on to the morning show. In the August issue of Elle, Meghan recalls how her father, the now late John McCain, convinced her to take the position. When Meghan was asked to join the program in 2017, her parents had, what her mother Cindy McCain would call, "their differences" with the show. In fact, she said the couple hadn't been on since 2008. Meghan had some hesitations, too. "I didn't take the offer seriously, because, no shade to the show, it just wasn't the show that I wanted to work on," Meghan said. "A carousel of...

Though he was never actually mentioned by name the entire time, the distinctly uninvited Donald Trump was roasted by speaker after speaker today at John McCain’s memorial at Washington D.C.’s National Cathedral and yet the President uncharacteristically refrained from hitting back – until now.
Having spent much of the day golfing, while the likes of George W. Bush and Barack Obama deftly pilloried him, the former Celebrity Apprentice host finally took to social media this afternoon with an apparent swipe at an unnamed Meghan McCain:
Make America Great Again!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 1, 2018
While perhaps Trump will deny that the tweet had anything to do with the memorial that Sen. McCain made abundantly clear he was not welcome at, the digital equivalent of yelling, all-caps, came after the younger McCain spoke for herself, her family and many who admired her father this morning in the cathedral.
