Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to Carey Mulligan comedy “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” Variety can confirm exclusively.
They will release the film in the U.S. while Universal Pictures International is handling global distribution.
The film, which was previously titled “One For The Money,” is directed by James Griffiths (“Cuban Fury”) and produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow productions (“Philomena”).
The screenplay was written by Tom Basden (“After Life”) and Tim Key (“Great Expectations”), who also star in the film alongside Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”) and Akemnji Ndifornyen (“Famalam”).
“The Ballad of Wallis Island” tells the story of Charles (played by Key), an eccentric lottery winner who tries to reunite his favorite musical duo Mortimer-McGwyer (Mulligan and Basden) despite the fact they split up many years ago. Making things even more awkward, the musicians – Nell Mortimer and Herb McGwyer — were also once romantically involved with each other a la Sonny and Cher.

“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.
In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

ABC has picked up four new series from its sister ABC Studios, including a new drama from Shonda Rhimes’ company, a drama about saving the world (starring Jason Ritter), a series about refugees… from America, and comedy that sounds like it might take a few cues from the recently installed White House inhabitant.
In “The Mayor,” Brandon Micheal Hall plays an aspiring young rapper, Courtney Rose, who decides – as a publicity stunt – to run for mayor. He did it solely to generate buzz and become rich and famous. Instead, he is actually elected mayor, an outcome he never predicted. ★★☆☆☆Based on an original idea from leading actor Nick Frost and written by British sitcom stalwart Jon Brown, James Griffiths' feature filmmaking debut Cuban Fury (2014) sees Frost transcending his Cornetto Trilogy compadres and going solo in a British comedy that attempts to meet belly laughs with the zesty world of salsa dancing, but offering only middling results. Labelled "the boy with fire in his heels" as a 13-year-old in the eighties, Bruce Garrett was a dancing prodigy poised to sweep the floor at the UK Junior Salsa Championship until an incident with a group of bullies robs him of his confidence and determination to carry on with the sport he loves.

Tubby funster Nick Frost steps out as the lead in salsa-based rom-com Cuban Fury. Frost plays Bruce, a former teenage salsa dancing extraordinaire who dons his Cuban heels once more in order to woo his new boss Julie, played by the lovely Rashida Jones. Standing in Bruce’s way are unpleasant colleague Drew, a none-more sleazy Chris O’Dowd and his own paralysing neurosis and shattered confidence.
Despite coming from a very televisual background – its director, James Griffiths, is best known (insomuch as he is known at all) for his work on Episodes and its writer and most of its stars made their names in TV – Cuban Fury stands up as one of the better examples of a British rom-com in recent years.

Chicago – Nick Frost has played character and comic roles as the affable sidekick, especially in the famed “Cornetto Trilogy” – “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz’ and “The World’s End” – alongside Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright. Frost is a leading man now, strutting his stuff on the salsa dance floor in “Cuban Fury.”
This high concept film has Bruce (Nick Frost) revisiting his childhood roots as a championship salsa dancer, after as an adult engineer he falls for his sales manager Julia (Rashida Jones). Turns out Jones is also into salsa, and Bruce believes that taking up the dance again is the best way to woo her. The film co-stars Chris O’Dowd as the rival suitor for Julia and Ian McShane as Bruce’s old salsa coach.

1, 2 Step: Griffiths’ Debut Features Solo Frost in Winning Performance
Though it may not command a notable shelf life in your memory, and even as it wins you over with its affable pleasures it may still not seem entirely probable, James Griffiths’ directorial debut, Cuban Fury, features a handful of winning performances, notably led by Nick Frost, stepping out as lead from under the sidekick shadow of Simon Pegg. Suckers for romantically inclined comedies should be roped right in, but it’s got enough charm to overcome the sticky trappings of its generic formula. More surprising is how charming Frost is on his own and in a role that he’s clearly put a lot of work into (even if the use of a body double seems apparent in more strenuous scenes).

With the film already released last month in the United Kingdom, we've already seen a couple trailers from across the pond for the comedy Cuban Fury starring Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz co-star Nick Frost. Now the film is poised to hit the United States this spring, and the surprisingly R-rated comedy has just unveiled its first domestic trailer. It still looks a little too slapsticky, but we're hoping the combination of Frost facing off with the hilarious Chris O'Dowd, as they each fight for the affection of the lovely Rashida Jones will be enough to make it enjoyable. Can Frost find success without Simon Pegg around? Watch it! Here's the first Us trailer for Jon Brown's Cuban Fury, originally from Yahoo: Cuban Fury is written by Jon Brown ("Misfits"), from an original idea by Nick Frost, and marks the feature film directorial debut of James Griffiths...

★★★☆☆After having made many an entertaining comedy in his collaborations with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, Cuban Fury (2014) marks Nick Frost's first bona fide solo outing. Directed by newcomer James Griffiths, it's a feel-good, if predictable offering. Initially conceptualised in a drunken email Frost sent to his producer, the film centres on Bruce Garrett (Frost), a former teen salsa champion who hung up his dance shoes after a bout of bullying. Cut to the present day and Bruce, who has since become overweight, now spends his days working a mundane 9-5 job whilst being bullied by his smarmy colleague Drew (Chris O'Dowd).

Mostly known for forming the second part of the Cornetto Trilogy double act with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost steps up with his first leading role in Cuban Fury, a romantic comedy which takes us inside the heady world of salsa dancing. Frost plays Bruce Garrett a former salsa child prodigy who has let himself seriously go in later life. When he discovers his new boss (Rashida Jones) has taken up salsa dancing, he decides to brush off his sequin shirts and dancing shoes in order to win her heart. There is nothing in Cuban Fury we haven't seen before (comparison's to Simon Pegg's Run Fatboy Run will no doubt run thorough peoples heads when watching this), but director James Griffiths, making his feature debut after working on t.v. shows Episodes and Up all Night, keeps proceeding endlessly charming and entertaining. It does recycle some old romantic comedy cliches,...

The film centres on Nick Frost (who also executive produces). He plays Bruce, a man who used to live for salsa, until he was beaten up as a young boy for wearing too many sequins. Dancing in Great Britain has come a long way since Billy Elliott. Popularised on national television with a wealth of talent shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, you could even go as far as calling it fashionable. Director James Griffiths, alongside writer Jon Brown, are seemingly aware of that fact – as they present their respective cinematic debut, Cuban Fury, starring Nick Frost in his very first leading role without his longstanding collaborator, Simon Pegg.
Frost plays Bruce Garrett, a former Salsa champion who gave up the sport when he was attacked on his way to the national championships as a youngster. Insisting that dancing is for sissies, Bruce is lured back on to the dance floor when he discovers that his new boss (Rashida Jones) harbours a compulsion for the art form.

As the old saying goes, appearances can be deceiving. That's never been more appropriate than in the case of Cuban Fury, a homegrown romantic comedy that casts Nick Frost as a former salsa prodigy who's fallen on hard times. It may sound dubious on paper - particularly when you learn that it began life as an email pitch a tipsy Frost fired off to producer Nira Park in the dead of night. But once the drunken haze cleared, Frost teamed with screenwriter Jon Brown and director James Griffiths to produce a film that's full of pleasant surprises. This could be as funny a film as you'll see all year.

Nick Frost has made a name for himself killing time, zombies, rural eyesores and aliens with Messrs. Wright and Pegg and he is branching out on his own once more with the new British comedy Cuban Fury.
Frost’s previous notable solo outing was as Martin Amis’s vulgar epitome of 80s excess John Self in the BBC’s adaptation of Money, however his salsa-obssessed starring role here is a million miles away from that.
The World Premiere of the film was held this evening in London and Frost and his co-stars were on hand to talk up the film and Colin Hart and Amon Warmann were there to meet them.
We’ll be adding the interviews as the night draws on.

Nick Frost and his arch nemesis Chris O’Dowd get down and dirty in a garage dance-off in this latest clip from James Griffiths’ dancing comedy “Cuban Fury.” This looks like a pretty funny movie with tongue firmly planted in cheek. And let’s face it, watching fat guys dancing are always funny. Also, check out a new poster for the movie, which apes the famous sequence from 1983′s “Flashdance.” Jennifer Beals ain’t got nothin’ on Nick Frost. And the dance-off clip is pretty hot, too. Beneath Bruce Garrett’s shabby, overweight exterior, the passionate beating heart of a salsa king lays dormant. Only one woman can reignite his Latin fire. Spotlight hits, sweat drips, heels click – Nick Frost is Cuban Fury! Starring Rashida Jones, Nick Frost, Kayvan Novak, and Chris O’Dowd. The fury comes this Valentine’s Day.

What’s funnier than a fat white guy dancing? Not a whole lot, actually, because fat white guys dancing is like the funniest damn thing you’ll probably see. That’s apparently what the folks trying to sell you James Griffiths’ comedy “Cuban Fury” thinks, too, because here’s a clip from the movie featuring star Nick Frost looking not so dapper as he gets his first taste of Latin dancing. It is apparently quite a painful lesson. I might have chuckled a time or two, but that’s about it. I guess fat white guys dancing just doesn’t have the charm it once did… Beneath Bruce Garrett’s shabby, overweight exterior, the passionate beating heart of a salsa king lays dormant. Only one woman can reignite his Latin fire. Spotlight hits, sweat drips, heels click – Nick Frost Is Cuban Fury! From the team that brought you Shaun Of The Dead,...

Let me start by apologizing for my longer-than-expected absence, dear readers. I’ve been very busy lately, and there’s been a serious lack of trailers which I felt compelled to write about. But I’m finally back, and this week I’m revisiting the upcoming British comedy Cuban Fury.
Premise: Former teen salsa champion Bruce Garrett (Nick Frost) is now a sad-sack engineer. But his passion for dancing is re-ignited by his crush on his gorgeous new boss Julia (Rashida Jones) and the only way he can win her over is by mastering the art of dance. Now all Bruce needs to do is rediscover his inner passion.
My take: Longtime readers of Trailer Trashin’ know of my love of British comedies. I’m not sure what it is, but they just tend to appeal to me in a way that most modern American comedies don’t. One such...

While the United States is still waiting to find out when Nick Frost will dance into theaters with Cuban Fury, the film is getting a release in the United Kingdom on Valentine's Day next month. In the film, Frost plays a man crushing on his American co-worker (Rashida Jones), but finds some stuff competition in Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids). And when Frost learns that his competition has charmed his potential love with some salsa dancing, he's eager to learn some steps to win her over. Enter Ian McShane ("Deadwood") as his intense dance instructor in this second trailer from across the pond, and we've got some comedy on our hands. However, this does look a little too slapstick for my tastes, but maybe it'll be fun. Watch below! Here's the second UK trailer for James Griffiths' Cuban Fury, originally from IGN: Cuban Fury is written by Jon Brown ("Misfits"), from...

It appears that Cuban Fury will be The perfect Valentine’s Day movie. With Nick Frost (The World’s End) and Chris O’Dowd (Thor: The Dark World) bringing their comedic skills and Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man) as the woman that they’re battling for the affections of, there really does seem to be something for everyone.
In this new trailer for the romantic comedy, we see Frost and O’Dowd having a good old fashioned dance-off, while also getting a greater insight into both the story and tone of the movie. Cuban Fury is directed by Episodes’ James Griffiths with a script from Fresh Meat and Misfits scribe Jon Brown.

Simon Pegg had an winning, against-the-odds comedy in Run, Fatboy, Run back in 2007, and now it's the long-awaited turn of his pal and co-Cornettoer Nick Frost to step up to the plate, slip on some sequins and shake his funky la-la's in Cuban Fury. It's a long-awaited lead for Frost, and the film's new and IGN-launched trailer promises much foot-icular mayhem as he shows off his stupendous salsa moves. The plot sees Frost's put-upon Bruce form a crush on his new boss, played by Rashida Jones. She's a keen salsa dancer, and to win her affections he brushes off his old dancing shoes and decides to reinvent himself as an unofficial lord of the dance. The fly in his foot ointment is Chris O'Dowd's rival for Jones' affections, so expect a dance battle or two before matters are settled. Real Men Dance. So goes the logline on the new poster for James Griffiths’ upcoming comedy, Cuban Fury, and by that estimation, leading man Nick Frost is as manly as they come.
The film was originally due to be released earlier in the year, before going back for reshoots. And with a Valentine’s Day 2014 release date firmly set, StudioCanal finally released a great first trailer last month, and now they’ve debuted a new UK quad poster over on Heat.

This week sees the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the highly-anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster. But in the meantime, this week’s new Trailer Trashin’ column takes a look at the upcoming British comedy Cuban Fury.

Good thing he used to be a child prodigy at salsa dancing – now all Bruce needs to do is rediscover his inner passion.

Nick Frost is a salsa dancing machine in James Griffiths’ “Cuban Fury”. No, just go with it. That’s the premise of the film, and if you don’t go with it, it’s like, why bother, right? So, having said that, check out the first trailer for Frost’s latest film. The man’s got moves! Sure, it wiggles and jiggles like pudding, but it’s still moves, bro. But can we at least get a Simon Pegg cameo in this thing? Maybe he’ll show up as a competing salsa dancer when we least expect it. Fingers crossed! If the thought of Shaun Of The Dead star Nick Frost as a former champion salsa dancer trying to regain past glory to win the girl puts a smile on your face then you, friend, are the target audience for James Griffiths' Cuban Fury. And Chris O'Dowd as Frost's salsa dancing rival and Deadwood's Ian McShane as his hard man instructor are just icing on the cake. It's all very silly, of course, and pretty much exactly what you would expect it to be. Take a look at the first trailer below....

Will Nick Frost be able to find an audience outside of the niche crowd that's fallen in love with his work from Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's Endc The guy is legitimately funny, but even adding his name in the headline made me wonder just how many people would read it and go, "Whoc" Audience awareness will be put to the test with his upcoming film Cuban Fury, in which he stars as Bruce Garrett, a man with unexpected talents, for as shabby as he may look, beneath the surface a passionate beating heart of a salsa king lays dormant. It's been one year since we posted first look photos from the British comedy Cuban Fury, and lucky for us, a trailer for the film starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End) has just arrived. Marking the directorial debut of James Griffiths ("Up All Night," "Episodes") and written by Jon Brown ("Misfits"), the film follows Frost as a chubby chap who falls for an American co-worker (Rashida Jones) at his office, and takes up salsa dancing lessons to win her over. But another co-worker (Chris O'Dowd) has eyes on her too, and becomes his nemesis in a film that looks conventional and goofy, but could be fun.
