The entire 400-episode catalog of true-crime unscripted series Forensic Files has been acquired by Content Partners.
Originally called Medical Detectives, the series ran for 14 seasons on TLC, Court TV and TruTV and repeats are still available on Warner Bros Discovery’s Hln. A revived version, Forensic Files II, has aired since 2020, first on Hln and now on Investigation Discovery. Since debuting in the wake of the O.J. Simpson trial, the show has helped popularize forensic investigation, a cornerstone of unscripted programming as well as scripted mainstays like the CSI franchise. CSI is partly owned by Content Partners.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon” were box office disasters for Apple, but the two movies were profitable anyway thanks to digital purchase platforms.
Is “Killers of the Flower Moon” a business success? There are data points in favor of either side to the argument; those who would say that the film is a failure need only point to its underwhelming box office receipts, as it pulled in just $157 million in theaters compared to its reported $215 million budget. However, those who say that the movie has been successful can point to the fact that despite those low ticket sales, the movie became profitable thanks to its time on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms that allow viewers to rent or buy movies that are still in theaters. Such platforms are becoming increasingly important parts of the profitability equation for studios when planning out their film slates, and they may force analysts...

Apple is developing a series about Negro League Baseball and Satchel Paige, with Magic Johnson on board as a producer.
The project is based on Donald Spivey’s book, “If Only You Were White: The Life of Leroy “Satchel” Paige.” It will explore the years of the Negro Baseball League, an all-Black league that played during the segregation era before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947.
The series will explore the epic and remarkable story of Negro League Baseball using the life and legacy of the legendary athlete and showman Leroy “Satchel” Paige, one of baseball’s greatest pitchers and star of Negro Leagues for many years. Paige, a Hall of Famer, played with a number of Negro League teams before making his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians in 1948.

June 1, 2019 marks the official 10-year anniversary of the William Morris Agency-Endeavor merger. It wasn’t a marriage of equals, with 14-year-old Endeavor, then valued at $100 million-plus, joining forces with a Hollywood royalty, the 111-year-old Wma valued at more than twice as much. But, in one of the most shocking Hollywood takeovers, it was Endeavor, with its 80 agents, that came up on top, taking advantage of the existing fractures within Wma leadership to take control of the bigger rival, which boasted more than 300 agents at the time.
“The Wma leadership was totally blindsided; they truly believed that they would be running the combined company,” one insider said. Indeed, Wma was supposed to control five of Wme’s nine board seats versus four for Endeavor, with Wma CEO Jim Wiatt leading Wme as chairman and Wma president Dave Wirtschafter as co-ceo alongside Endeavor toppers Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell.

With growing ratings, Lifetime’s Devious Maids has received a pickup for a 13-episode second season. After an Ok but unspectacular premiere, the telenovela adaptation has been steadily improving to become Lifetime’s fastest-growing drama in its history. On August 4, Devious Maids drew series high 2.9 million total viewers, up 45% vs. the show’s June 23 premiere. (The series posted a 2.7 million viewers this past Sunday.) It has made Lifetime the No.1 cable network in the Sunday 10 Pm time slot among women. “One of the most daring series on television, Devious Maids has quickly become a hit,” said Lifetime’s Evp and Gm Rob Sharenow. Created by Marc Cherry based on the telenovela Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar, Devious Maids is executive produced by Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Eva Longoria, Paul McGuigan, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia. The initiative makes sense for the upcoming Lifetime drama series, which was created by Desperate Housewives‘ Marc Cherry and counts Eva Longoria among its exec producers. Devious Maids is based on the hit Televisa telenovela Ellas Son La Alegría Del Hogar and centers on five Latina maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramírez, Roselyn Sánchez, Edy Ganem and Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills — with murder and intrigue thrown into the mix. The network is making the pilot episode available early on digital platforms beginning Sunday in both English and Spanish. The sneak peak comes ahead of the series’ on-air debut June 23. Following the premiere, Lifetime will make each episode available in both languages the day after its Sunday 10 Pm airing. “We are thrilled to work with our distribution partners on making Devious Maids available in both English and...

With Desperate Housewives quickly coming to an end, Eva Longoria will be returning to work with ABC, ABC Studios, and Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry for a new pilot called Devious Maids. It’s nice to see she would rather stick with the people she knows than move on to a new project at another network. The best part of this story is Longoria will not be starring in the pilot. She is on board solely as an executive producer.
As reported by Deadline, this is Longoria’s first time as an exec producer on a pilot, so what better way to try out a new job then by working with people you are already familiar with, like Cherry? The pilot is being written by Cherry and is based on the Mexican format. It will follow the lives of four maids, played by Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, and Judy Reyes.

While Desperate Housewives is coming to an end, star Eva Longoria is staying in business with ABC, ABC Studios and Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. Longoria is joining the ABC/ABC Studios pilot Devious Maids, which like Desperate Housewives is a soap with four female leads, as an executive producer. Written by Cherry based on the Mexican format, Devious Maids follows four maids (Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.
