So what happened when those cheftestants reached the famous — or infamous — “Restaurant Wars” in season 21, episode eight?
The episode begins with ominous music and black cars on the road. “I don’t know where the Gps is set to, but I know the area where it’s set to,” says native Wisconsinite Dan. “It’s right on the lake. There are so many things that this could be.” They arrive at Discovery World and find host...

“After every elimination, I’ll be waiting right here to give each chef their one shot at redemption,” says Tom Colicchio in the preview for “Last Chance Kitchen,” which will air after “Top Chef” season 21 episodes and pit the ousted chefs against each other for a chance to return to the competition. “But this season, I may do things a little differently — please meet this season’s 16th competitor …” Watch the preview above.
All is not lost for chefs who have a bad day on the Bravo cooking competition. “Last Chance Kitchen” gives them a chance to make a comeback. But it’s not easy. They have to go head-to-head against another eliminated chef to prepare a dish under a tight time limit. The loser is eliminated from “Top Chef” for good. But the winner gets to continue through “Lck” until finally a chef is selected to return to the competition.

Yes, we’re talking about gift cards, but it doesn’t have to be as impersonal as it sounds.

The cooking timer sounded for the last time during the Top Chef Houston Season 19 finale as the Final Plate hit the table. Left standing was cheftestant Buddha Lo, the Australian Chinese super fan who paid tribute to family and the American dream into his four-course progressive dish. Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, and guest decision-makers Eric Ripert and Stephanie Izard were wowed by the presentation and flavor of Lo’s hamachi with caviar, lobster laksa, Mongolian lamb, and pumpkin pie mille-feuille dessert. “I didn’t dream to be an astronaut. I didn’t dream of anything else. I dreamt to be right here,” the executive chef at Huso in New York City, said after the announcement. Lo’s win earns him a feature in Food & Wine Magazine, a trip to the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, and 250,000. We caught up with the culinary champ as he reflects on an...

Exclusive: Iron Chef is back in the kitchen after Netflix cooked up a deal to bring back the classic food format.
The streamer has ordered Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend, a reboot of the series that had a couple of incarnations in the U.S. including a Food Network series that featured the likes of Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Wolfgang Puck.
Netflix has had previous success rebooting linear formats – arguably its biggest non-scripted hit has been Queer Eye, which is based on the Bravo series.
The series, which is expected to be dished up later this year, is based on a Japanese format from Fuji Television Network. It has been handed an eight-episode order.
The culinary competition, considered one of the toughest gastronomic challenges that chefs can face, will feature five new Iron Chefs, who will welcome Challenger Chefs to the reimagined Kitchen Stadium, where they’ll...

After safely and successfully filming its most recent season last year in Portland, Ore., “Top Chef,” Bravo’s Emmy-winning culinary competition, has moved to Houston for Season 19. Production has begun there, and the show will premiere next year.
Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons are all returning to adjudicate the new group of cheftestants. Also coming back will be a variation of last season’s “Top Chef” all-star judging panel, in which alumni of the show joined its bubble as guest judges and mentors. The idea was born out of pre-covid vaccine necessity, but proved to be popular with the show’s fans. It shouldn’t be too surprising that a male chef leads the final six remaining players on “Top Chef” so far this season. Eleven of the 15 winners so far have been male. There’s been some progress since Stephanie Izard in Season 4 became first woman to come in first. But it took six years until No. 2 Kristen Kish claimed the “Top Chef” title, Since then, Mei Lin (Season 12) and Brooke Williamson (Season 14) rose to the top as well.
But Eric Adjepong (seen above), just one of two men still kicking on Season 16, has come by his favorite status with 43% predicting he will be this season’s champ in the best way possible – by making great food, often with African flavors. True, he has yet to win a Quickfire Challenge but he has never been a low-scorer. As for Elimination Challenges, Eric rules as the only player to win three – the last two back-to-back.

Somehow I missed the fact that a new “Top Chef” season – No. 16, to be exact — premiered two weeks ago. Thank goodness, my DVR remembered for me. While “The Great British Baking Show” has taken over the Bravo staple’s prime seat at the dining table of my heart when it became available on these shores, “Top Chef” is a close second in fulfilling what I crave in a cooking competition show.
The Food Network’s pantry of watching options continues to entice me. But they rarely fully satisfy my appetite. “Iron Chef America” is too beholden to a ticking clock and, like many food-related contests, is contained in a single space. I like the chef judges on “Chopped,” especially Alex Guarnascelli, but the format only occasionally allows for surprises and twists. I can tell the minute someone puts a crispy fish fillet atop a moist ingredient or pours on sesame...

Becoming an Iron Chef is no easy task, but you can bet the cooks have the highest quality tools and ingredients available to help them along the way.
To prove it, host Alton Brown takes People behind-the-scenes of the set of Iron Chef Gauntlet in the exclusive video above.
“Although there’s culinary equipment scattered all over this kitchen, this is the main concentration,” Brown says while walking down a hall of gadgets. “Here we have pots and pans, grinders, foamers—we’ve even got some really nice copper bowls. These are excellent for whipping up egg whites and things like that,...

Restaurant owner, Top Chef champ, cookbook author and James Beard-award winner Stephanie Izard is adding one more title to her lengthy resume: magazine editor.
The chef will launch goat fish, a new food, travel and lifestyle magazine this fall, Izard tells People Food exclusively.
“Somebody brought up the idea to me six months ago and said, ‘you should do a magazine’ and I thought, ‘that’s great, but I have a lot of stuff going on,'” Izard says of the initial pitch. “But I started getting really excited thinking about different stories and what I could learn from them.

Stephanie Izard, the Chicago-based chef best known as the first woman to win Bravo’s Top Chef, does not have a reputation for taking the easy road. But she does rely on a food shortcut to make her cooking taste even better.
“I pretty much put fish sauce in everything,” she told People before cooking at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival on Friday. “Sometimes you can’t get those layers of flavor from anything else.”
That chef shortcut has taken on a new form for the mom to son Ernie, nine months, who says she just learned a trick...

Week 8 of Top Chef Duels had the only two female winners of the series, Stephanie Izard (Top Chef Chicago) and Kristen Kish (Top Chef Seattle) showcasing their skills.
These two women have very different styles when it comes to preparation and plating. They also favor different flavor profiles. Kristen is still all tingly from her win, and she's very meticulous when it comes to preparation. Stephanie's focus is creating rustic flavor and not necessarily sweating the small stuff. Even though the judges loved Kristen's take on a sinful dessert, experience prevailed when the judges found Stephanie's food more "tempting."...

It stands to reason that a "Top Chef" winner would want her wedding menu to stand out. And Stephanie Izard, executive chef at Chicago's Girl & The Goat and winner of "Top Chef" Season 4, certainly rose to the challenge.
Izard, 36, married craft beer consultant Gary Valentine over the weekend in Chicago. According to People, guests were served a mouth-watering autumnal menu prepared by Fish & Oyster's Giuseppe Tentori that included red wine braised short ribs, roasted black cod, rosemary potato gratin and roasted golden beets with Manchego.
But the cake ... the cake was something else.
The creation of Matthew Rice, Girl & the Goat's pastry chef, the four-tiered cake included some truly unique combinations. One layer featured strawberry Nesquik, while another combined peanut butter and chocolate ganache-covered Cheez-Its. The whole thing was topped off with bacon buttercream frosting.
Because everything's better with bacon.
