Telemundo will become the exclusive Spanish-language home to U.S. national soccer team matches, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and the U.S. Soccer Federation announced Tuesday in a multimedia rights agreement.
On the heels of a record-breaking presentation of the World Cup Qatar 2022, Telemundo will now feature all U.S. soccer men and women’s national team friendlies and other high-profile matches, all of which will be available to stream on Peacock. The deal also transfers exclusive rights to live event coverage and the opportunity to create ancillary programming to Telemundo.
With Telemundo holding the broadcast rights to the FIFA World Cups for men and women as well the Olympic Games, the deal will include coverage of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is slated to be co-hosted between Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Netflix has greenlit two new docuseries, one filmed at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022, and an inside look at international rugby tournament Six Nations, the streamer announced on Thursday.
The as-yet-untitled World Cup series from Netflix and FIFA+ will feature exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage of all 32 teams from the tournament. The series, which is produced by Fulwell 73, is a companion to “Captains,” which followed players as they qualified for the 2022 World Cup. It will stream globally on Netflix.

Overall, the game — which has since been dubbed as one of the greatest of all time — also ranks as the most-streamed FIFA World Cup match in U.S. media history, regardless of language with an Average Minute Audience (Ama) of 2.96 million viewers, per the network. On streaming, the finale delivered 2,156 more viewers — 23 times more than the 2018 final.
