Dublin, May 24 (Ians) Cricket Ireland on Wednesday announced that right-handed batter Stephen Doheny has missed out from the 15-player squad to be captained by Andrew Balbirnie for the upcoming Icc Mens Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.
The Qualifier event, to be held in Zimbabwe from June 18-July 9, will see 10 teams competing for two remaining spots in the ten-team 2023 Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup, to be held in India from October-November.
“Unfortunately, hard decisions had to be made, and Stephen Doheny misses out on this trip. Stephen is a player we admire and want to continue to invest in, but we think the time is right for him, just now, to take a step back and work on a few technical aspects of his game at the domestic level.”
Qualifier events are tough, cut-throat competitions at times and a balance of talent, form and experience is essential. We believe...

Dhaka, April 7 (Ians) On the back of wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim’s 51 not out, Bangladesh put a halt to Ireland’s fightback in the one-off Test by securing a seven-wicket win in the second session of day four’s play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Ireland made 259 for the loss of just four wickets on day three, recovering from 27/4 to spark hopes of an unlikely triumph. Andy McBrine was key to their hopes overnight, resuming unbeaten on 71 having entered at 123/6.
However, he was only able to add one to his overnight score on day four, with Ireland losing two wickets for six runs. Ebadot Hossain did the damage, sending McBrine’s off-stump cartwheeling before nicking off Graham Hume as Ireland made 292 in their second innings.
That left Bangladesh needing 138 to win. Litton Das hit 23 off 19 before becoming the first wicket to fall, a sharp bouncer from Mark Adair...

Dublin, April 3 (Ians) Opener Paul Stirling is set to join Ireland’s Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka and will be available for selection for the second Test to be played in Galle from April 24-28. Stirling’s addition makes Ireland’s travelling squad a 16-player party for the second game of the two-Test series.
Ireland’s tour to Sri Lanka was initially supposed to consist of one Test and two ODIs. But the hosts’ quest to get more red-ball matches meant the two ODIs got converted into an extra Test match. Both the Tests will be played in Galle between April 16 and 28.
“Paul was originally set to join the squad in Sri Lanka for the Odi series that was originally planned. However, with those fixtures now converted to a Test match, and the scheduled Bangladesh T20I series in Ireland postponed, he will now have a greater...

Chattogram, March 29 (Ians) Bangladesh opener Litton Das produced a stunning knock in the rain-shortened second T20I against Ireland here on Wednesday, scoring the fastest fifty by a Bangladesh player in the shortest format.
Das completed his half-century off 18 balls, with the help of five fours and three sixes to break the 16-year-old record of Mohammad Ashraful, who had hit a 20-ball fifty for Bangladesh against West Indies in the inaugural Icc Men’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.
The 28-year-old batter came close to breaking the record last year when he made a 21-ball fifty against India in Adelaide in the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Put in to bat, Das had a lucky reprieve in the fourth over when George Dockrell shelled a catch in the deep off Mark Adair and conceded a six. Das followed it up with back-to-back boundaries and never looked back from there.
