Paramount Plus has released the official trailer for “The Offer,” the upcoming drama miniseries that chronicles the making of “The Godfather.”
Set in the early 1970s, “The Offer” stars Miles Teller as Albert S. Ruddy, who is hired as the producer for the film adaptation of the best-selling novel “The Godfather,” written by Mario Puzo (played by Patrick Gallo). While the series faces typical behind the scenes tension between its director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) and producing team, the filming grows more complicated when mob boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) signs on to help assist in the production. In addition to Teller, Gallo, Fogler and Ribisi, the series will also star Matthew Goode, Juno Temple, Burn Gorman and Colin Hanks.

Over the past 25 years, multiple women have accused singer R. Kelly of sexual, mental and physical abuse. Lifetime said today that it is relaunching its public-affairs campaign Stop Violence Against Women to raise awareness of abusive behaviors, and the first projects will be a documentary series and movie from Kreativ Inc. focusing on women who say they’ve been abused by R. Kelly.
The controversial R&B star has a history of alleged abuse of underage African-American girls that largely has been unreported by mainstream media until recently. The series and untitled feature will focus on women who are emerging from the shadows to share their stories.
“What we’ve seen — in the last year in particular — is the tremendous power of women’s voices when given the opportunity to share their truth,” said Brie Miranda Bryant, Svp Unscripted Development and Programming at Lifetime. “But there are important stories still untold, stories of bravery, resilience and defiance that demand to be heard. This is one of those stories.

You get what you wish for. It’s a trope that has proliferated movies and literature since the dawn of time. When the concept is done well it typically leads to taut, thrilling movies; when its done wrong… Well you get films like Gremlin.
Wish Upon, whilst not a fantastic example of the genre, is not Gremlin-level bad, but it’s not without its problems. The main of which is a ridiculously selfish lead character whose actions belie what is supposed to be a good natured teen struggling with high school. Think Mean Girls but with death, murder, a monkeys paw (yes, for that is the central conceit All these movies take from) and a lot of dead people.

Playing with the whole “creepy inanimate object” trope which has seen a resurgence of late, Annabelle director John R. Leonetti is back again with another murder by numbers horror B movie which is set to either infuriate, or have its audiences in fits of laughter. Written by Barbara Marshall, Wish Upon doesn’t really try to be anything but exactly what it is. Its formulaic narrative, coupled with predictable jump-scares and cheesy dialogue may not bring anything new or innovative to the horror genre, but no one can deny the entertainment value of its slapstick sensibilities.
17 year old Clare (Joey King) has not had the easiest upbringing, having witnessed the suicide of her mother aged only five. The teenager has since suffered daily bullying at high school where she is mocked by the popular kids and largely ignored by her longtime crush Paul (Mitchell Slaggert). Her father...

From the director of Annabelle and starring Joey King (The Conjuring), Ryan Phillippe (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Shannon Purser (Barb from Stranger Things) and Sydney Park (The Walking Dead), Wish Upon is a wickedly chilling story about an alluring object imbued with sinister and dangerous powers, a cautionary tale that takes the ‘be careful what you wish for’ theme to frightening new levels…
17-year-old Clare Shannon (King) is barely surviving the hell that is high school, along with her friends, Meredith (Park) and June (Purser). So, when her dad (Phillippe) gifts her an old music box with an inscription that promises to grant the owner’s wishes, she thinks there is nothing to lose. Clare makes her first wish and, to her surprise, it comes true. Before long, she finally has it all: money, popularity and her dream boy. Everything seems perfect—until the people closest to...

MaryAnn’s quick take… Simple, yet stupid. A magic box grants a teen wishes… that don’t come free. Apparently they’re not making eighth graders read “The Monkey’s Paw” anymore. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Have you ever heard the phrase “Be careful what you wish for?” You haven’t? Then you are the only person besides Ohio high-schooler Clare, who acquires a magic box that grants seven wishes, and doesn’t seem to think there’s anything hinky going on even once way too many people around her are dying in freakish ways after she wishes to get rich — and does! — and wishes to be the most popular girl in school — and it happens! — and so on. I mean, one bizarre accident in your vicinity is weird, and two is a coincidence.

Out in theaters now is John R. Leonetti’s teen-centric horror film, Wish Upon, which is centered around a teenage girl named Clare (Joey King), who is gifted a magical music box that can grant the owner seven wishes, but for each wish Clare makes, someone else will suffer the consequences of her good fortune.
Daily Dead recently caught up with Leonetti to discuss his latest directorial endeavor, and during our interview he discussed re-teaming with Wish Upon’s protagonist after they previously worked together on The Conjuring, his experiences collaborating with the rest of his cast and crew, and whether or not there’s been any thought given to a potential sequel.

The pitch for “Wish Upon” has plenty of potential: A high concept horror movie that basically aims to be “Heathers” meets “Final Destination” with a dash of “The Monkey’s Paw.” Unpopular teenager Clare (Joey King) comes across an ancient Chinese box with the ability to grant eight wishes, which she leverages to make her family wealthy and improve the quality of her life bit by bit, not realizing that every wish comes with a tradeoff — someone close to her must die. And so they do, again and again, as the gears in the box turn slowly and an eerie song plays, so by the time Clare learns her lesson, it’s obviously too late. Unfortunately, by the time “Wish Upon” gets around to establishing this grim premise, it’s already too late to turn it into anything remotely exciting on its own terms.

Not all wishes come without baggage, and Ryan Phillippe discusses the blood price that must be paid in a recent featurette for the new horror film Wish Upon.

All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes.
While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect - until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. By now, horror fans are used to Blumhouse Productions’ surprise “dumping” strategy, where a handful never-before-seen titles hit Netflix/VOD without warning. This explains why you might not have known about Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s second feature this year, Viral, until – well – now. Movies like Mockingbird, Mercy, and The Veil don’t make you question why Blum chose to unceremoniously push them out, but Viral does. There’s more to Christopher Landon and Barbara Marshall’s screenplay than squirmy invaders and teenage chills, that I urge you to discover from the comfort of your sofa and surround sound setup.
