As first reported by Variety, the series, tentatively titled Dancelord, is a “no holds barred biopic” that will chronicle the highs and lows of Flatley’s colorful life. It is produced by StoryFirst and written by Micho Rutare (Z Nation), with casting handled by Jessica Sherman (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Casting is expected to begin imminently. “For every transcendent moment onstage, Flatley endures grueling hours of pain and the loneliness of the road,” reads the official synopsis (per Variety). “Taunted by the media and, at times, doubted by everyone but his fans, Flatley bounces back time and again, dancing from his heart well into middle age and transforming Irish dance forever.” Flatley is recognized for bringing new life to traditional Irish dance,...

The final few days before the 2020 presidential election will see phone banking, music videos and more cast reunions as Hollywood figures make a last push, largely for Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Biden’s presidential campaign continues to draw on heavy support from the entertainment industry. On Friday, they tweeted out a video created by Diane Warren that is performed by JoJo.

Will.i.am, who produced the breakout “Yes, We Can” video for Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008, created a new one tied to a Biden speech called “The Love,” featuring the Black Eyed Peas and Jennifer Hudson. It’s received nearly 33 million views on YouTube.

A group of Hollywood producers launched a new digital ad Tuesday that poses a basic question: What does life look like in 2030 if Donald Trump continues to be president?
The spot, called “Twenty Thirty,” comes from Micho Rutare, producer Ben Rosenblatt and executive producer Mike Silver. Watch it above.
In the spot, a grandfather (Ivar Brogger) is running through the list of presidents, in numerical order, with his granddaughter. When he gets to 45, the child asks, “Why isn’t there a 46?” Then the spot cuts to Trump making authoritarian-like remarks.
The scene then cuts to a smoggy Los Angeles skyline, with all of the buildings bearing the name, “Trump.”
“Grandpa, did you vote for Trump?” the granddaughter asks.
Then there is the sound of a siren, and the message, “Vote while you still can.”
Silver, Rutare and Rosenblatt founded the Win America Back Pac, and are raising money for future...

This should probably come as no surprise, given the Twitter whirlwind churned up by last week's Sharknado, but now at least we can say it's official: Syfy has announced that a sequel to the outrageous monster/disaster movie mashup is definitely going to happen. Sharknado 2 is slated to air on the network sometime next year, and this time the shark-storm will be headed for New York City. The Asylum, the studio behind Sharknado and other monster epics like the Mega Shark films (including the upcoming Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, which you can read about here), will produce again. Tapping into the social media explosion surrounding last Thursday's premiere, Syfy is launching a Twitter contest allowing fans to choose the official subtitle for the sequel. Just tweet your suggested subtitle to @SyfyMovies with the hashtag #Sharknado, and the network will choose their favorite. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sharknado pulled...

The Syfy phenomenon known as "Sharknado" can't possibly be over after a single night. Instead, the network has plans to re-air the movie and there are already talks of a sequel. What could we expect from a follow-up to this shark-weather disaster?
Ideas seem to include Johnny Depp, "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof, Mia Farrow and Vietnamese animation. Also, Tara Reid is totally up for doing it all again.
"Sharknado 2, according to the producers
Micho Rutare and David Latt are the producers behind "Sharknado," and they have big plans for the future. Their Asylum production company is already making plans for a sequel, and the two men are not above joking ideas for it.
"We want Damon Lindelof to write the sequel," Rutare told The Hollywood Reporter. "He said he would, and I don't know if he's serious or not, but we can do it right now."

Who would have imagined that an Asylum/Syfy movie about tornadoes full of sharks would become one of the biggest pop culture sensations of the year? Not surprising, Syfy is already considering unleashing a second Sharknado.
The ratings aren’t even in yet, and Syfy, a network that generally is opposed to making sequels to its Original Movies, is putting out word that they are strongly considering a sequel based almost entirely off of last night’s social media reaction. 5,000 tweets per minute. 387,000 social media reactions. If that translates to actual rating, Sharknado could very well be one of the television events of our time.
While they decide, in case you missed it, Syfy will present a special encore presentation of Sharknado on Thursday, July 18, at 7Pm (Et/Pt), and today they also posted a clip:
My advice to both Syfy and The Asylum: Don’T Do It! Sharknadoes, much like lightning,...

Meet Micho Rutare and David Latt, the producers who developed Syfy's viral sensation Sharknado via The Asylum, an all-in-one studio, production company, distributor and financer. For the Burbank-based banner, the campy classic-to-be marks the latest in a long line of monster movies -- 2-Headed Shark, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, among other more family-friendly projects -- with the massive wave of social media attention taking the company by surprise. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Rutare, head of development at The Asylum, and his production partner Latt to discuss the nuts and bolts of Sharknado, attention

The days are shorter, the mornings are crisper and Halloween is right around the corner. That can mean only one thing: It's time once again for SplatterFest, Houston's premier horror film fest.
Now in its third year, SplatterFest is the brainchild of filmmakers Kerry Beyer and Kelly Byrns. But this year, Byrns and Beyer have made their SplatterFest even bigger and better than ever. I know what you're thinking — after last year's ultra-groovy Bruce Campbell orgy-a-thon, how is that even possible?
Here's how: SplatterFest 2012 has expanded and created AmazingFest, destined to be one of the Southwest's top pop culture conventions, for a trip back to the days of shoulder pads, parachute pants and mullets...oh yes, my friends, SplatterFest is headed to the 1980s. And the guest of honor will be none other than that close, personal friend of Molly Ringwald and ultimate king of the geeks: the one, the only Farmer Ted.

Director: Bruce Davison. Writers: Brian Brinkman, Micho Rutare. Cast: Barry Williams, Danny Bonaduce, Sherilyn Fenn, Bruce Davison, Andre Royo, and Howard Hesseman. One of The Asylum's latest sacrificial offerings to the SyFy Network is Bigfoot. In Canada, this movie made its premiere on Space! The Imagination Station last week and viewers on both sides of the border can ask what the hell was that thing that they have found. Some may be more inclined to go hunting for the real thing. This company is well known for poking fun at larger film properties that include mutant animals, weather anomalies and haunted mansions. Their staying power comes from the fact that if the premise is not registered or trademarked, it's fair game for it to be ridiculed. Creative license can only go so far, and with Bigfoot, nobody owns the copyright to cryptozoology's most famous beast. Anyone can quest for the...

San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

Director Micho Rutare’s upcoming suspense flick “Adopting Terror” stars Sean Astin, Samaire Armstrong, Monet Mazur, Brendan Fehr, and Michael Gross. Here’s the twist: it was produced by The Asylum and on the Lifetime network. Now, I’m not saying that the either company is incapable of producing something worthy of Astin’s talents, though I must say that I do have my doubts. Of course, Astin isn’t without his stinkers — Frank Coraci’s “Click” is garbage and you know it — and, honestly, the previews don’t paint a pretty picture, either. Be that as it may, it’s an Asylum flick starring Sean Action; skipping it would be a direct insult to my wonky cinematic sensibilities. And we can’t have that, can we? The official synopsis reads something like this: Tim and Cheryl Broadbent are excited to finally adopt Mona, a beautiful baby girl. But when...

Back in early December of last year, I read a newspaper article in which the author bemoaned moviegoer's lack of interest in serious cinema.
Rather than flocking to The Hurt Locker or The Green Zone, people seem more interested in lowbrow popcorn crunchers than an "important film." Never mind that attendance is down across the board, and even expected hits like (*shudder*) Little Fockers didn't drawing in the expected crowds. And the author didn't anticipate the success and staying power of both True Grit and Black Swan.
Nope, this writer's overriding concern was that until our socioeconomic situation improves, serious films will continue being shunned by the public. With such a brilliant summation, that it's no surprise that the author is syndicated, while I just post on a blog.

You have heard the premise of a meteor shower heading to earth, which is sure to bring man's destruction, before. This type of event killed the dinosaurs, so this could happen to mankind too, right? This plotline has been tried before by Armageddon and others, but here The Asylum adds in some bad acting and a low budget to get the job done. Yes, this reviewer is getting jaded by all the poor quality pictures cascading across these eyes. However, some viewers might find some interest in the one line synopsis for The Meteor Apocalypse, which just released yesterday. A trailer is provided below and at The Asylum website. View both before the world ends through a cosmic rock shower!
A synopsis for The Meteor Apocalypse:
"A gigantic meteors enters Earth's orbit and begins to disintegrate, showering the entire planet with debris' (The Asylum).
Release Date: February 23, 2010 (DVD).
Director: Micho Rutare.
