Where to begin with The Madness Within? How about right at the start. Seriously, this film has one of the strongest openings I’ve seen in ages. In fact the pre-credits sequence plays out almost like a trailer, showing us what type of man the protagonist is, what “interesting” things he gets up to: sex, drugs and something else, something darker. Something which you can tell right from the get-go is going to be dark and dangerous. And that’s even without so much as an inkling of plot. It’s a tremendous way to introduce a movie and it’s lead character – plus it raises a ton of questions about...

"You ever do that? Visual something about the future..." Check out this trailer for a very small independent film called Counter Clockwise, an example of compelling sci-fi being made on a shoestring budget. The film is sci-fi thriller meets dark comedy about a scientist who accidentally invents time travel and is zapped six months into the future. He finds himself in a twisted time where his wife and sister are murdered and he's the main suspect. It kind of has a Brick meets Primer vibe to it, and I'm quite interested to see the entire thing. Lots of fancy panning shots. Starring Michael Kopelow, Devon Ogden, Kerry Knuppe, Joy Rinaldi, Caleb Brown and Frank Simms. Give it a look below and tell us if you're intrigued as well. Here's the first official trailer for George Moïse's Counter Clockwise, from Vimeo (via Quiet Earth): Description from Vimeo: "A sci-fi...

Director/writer: Alex Wright. Cast: Bobby Campo, Nazneen Contractor, Devon Ogden and Chris Olivero. Who needs a Ghost Whisperer when Eva (Nazneen Contractor, "24"), a Santería Priestess, can do a better job? In the movie Séance: the Summoning, she proves that those folks gifted with the ability to know what they are doing while others are out for a quick buck. When the religion is a blend of both Roman Catholic and Western African (Vodon) beliefs, the knowledge they wield is far more comprehensive than any one faith can cover. In the real life world, the Voodoo religion is still practiced in Haiti. Players are not all that careful in the deals they make at the crossroads. Eva has never come to grips with her roots and this movie is more about her compared to any of her friends. To see Eva keep a level head throughout the film is this movie's main saving grace.
