Fifty years after the original Woodstock festival took place, mementos of the event are scattered across the country. Jimi Hendrix’s guitar is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; Wavy Gravy’s sleeping bag is housed at the Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio (owned by former Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen). Jack Casady’s bass, Johnny Winter’s chain necklace and the original plans for the location can be found at a museum on the site of the festival in Bethel, New York.

When Eric Clapton first heard the Band, he knew he was done with Cream. “I’m in the wrong place with the wrong people doing the wrong thing,” the guitarist later recalled thinking, and he wasn’t the only one left stunned by the group’s laid-back revolution. Synthesizing R&B, country, blues and early rock with chops seasoned by years on the road with Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, Canadians Robbie Robertson, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and Garth Hudson, along with their Arkansas-born drummer-singer Levon Helm — once collectively known as the Hawks,...

Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice featured some international pop on night six of Blind Auditions, led by a teenaged dynamo singing Camila Cabello’s “Havana.”
With an effortless level of cool, 15-year-old Miami resident Lela tapped into her family’s Colombian roots for a mostly Spanish version of the pop smash that echoed Cabello’s “Spanglish” remix of the song from 2017. Kelly Clarkson was dancing in her chair and spun early on, but Jennifer Hudson followed soon after and claimed the perky talent for her team.

Tuesday night during Night 6 of “The Voice” Season 15, country singer Caeland Garner took on King Harvest‘s “Dancing in the Moonlight” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs around: Blake Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. The fact that Caeland is best friends with Season 13 finalist Red Marlow, who was a member of Team Blake, helped Caeland make his decision to join Blake’s current roster. “I started thinking, man, I want to buy this guy’s version of that song for my lake playlist,” Blake said while trying to convince Caeland to join his team. “I gotta say, man, your voice is so unique and it sounds like it comes from a different period in time.

Season 15 of NBC's The Voice continued with more Blind Auditions on Tuesday night. Coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson competed for the top artists, hoping to solidify their teams ahead of the Battles.
First up was Caeland Garner, singing a soulful cover of “Dancing in the Moonlight” by King Harvest. Garner noted that he’s friends with former contestant Red Marlow. He had a similar rock-country vibe, and it got Hudson and Shelton to turn. Garner unsurprisingly chose Team Blake.

Drummer with the Band whose career stretched in many other directions
Levon Helm – a life in pictures
A shorthand way of describing Levon Helm, who has died of cancer aged 71, would be as the drummer with the Band, who were Bob Dylan's backing group as he made the leap from folk to rock, and then forged a hugely influential career of their own in the late 1960s and 70s. This would have made Helm eminent enough, but his career stretched in many other directions, as drummer with the rock'n'roller Ronnie Hawkins, solo artist, prolific film actor and, most recently, host of the all-star Midnight Ramble Sessions. He was an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and a fine and distinctive singer.
He was born Mark Lavon Helm in Elaine, Arkansas, the second of Nell and Diamond Helm's four children. His father was a cotton farmer but also a music lover, and the Grand Ole Opry...
