Under less forgiving circumstances, 2017 could have marked a disastrous year for Stephen King adaptations. As is? Andy Muschietti’s It atones for the slog-heavy sins of The Dark Tower, all but erasing Matthew McConaughey’s apron intimidation tactics from cinematic relevance – but approval wasn’t instantaneous. “Pennywise is too scary to lure children!” some cried upon early image releases. “Bill Skarsgård will be a worse clown than Will Poulter!” others claimed. True Detective favorite Cary Fukunaga placed Muschietti behind an 8-Ball the minute he vacated directing duties, but the whimsically sadistic Mama director crumbled under no circumstantial weight. Expectations surpassed, mainstream horror glory returned. What a splendid chill to start the Fall season with.

Last weekend, Florida authorities arrested 28-year-old restaurant culinary manager Lee Rodarte Jr. and charged him with the murder of his co-worker — and sometime girlfriend — Savannah Gold.

Nearly five years ago, a Los Angeles dog walker made a grisly discovery that rattled the residents of the Hollywood Hills: In January 2012, she found a man’s head along a popular hiking trail close to the famed Hollywood sign, and police found the man’s feet and hands nearby, buried in a shallow grave.
(Chunks of the victim’s flesh were later discovered by a city worker excavating around the Bronson Caves in L.A., a quarry that was used as the entrance to the Batcave in the superhero’s ’60s TV series.)

BBC America already has one wacky British time traveler on its schedule, but with all of time and space at your disposal, there’s surely room for one more. Enter “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” a completely bonkers series based on the novels by Douglas Adams.
Created by Max Landis, the series is a sci-fi mystery with comedic sensibility and a helluva lot of storylines. Like the 2012 TV adaptation before it, “Dirk Gently” dispenses with the book’s plot — which some have proclaimed unfilmable — in favor of an original mystery. Landis’ version also dispenses with all of the book’s characters save for the titular detective himself.

Mystery-thrillers leave us shocked with chills running through our body. We bet this movie will be no different.
Commuting to work is anything but exciting, shocking or mysterious. But when a commute turns into a missing-persons investigation, it doesn’t seem so boring now, does it?
Director Tate Taylor brings author Paula Hawkins’ bone-chilling novel The Girl on the Train to the big screen, and it will leave you on the edge of your seat. The mysterious story stars Emily Blunt, playing Rachel Watson, a woman who ends up in the middle of a murder investigation after witnessing a traumatic event. The film has an all-star cast including stars Justin Theroux, Haley Bennett, Allison Janney, and Lisa Kudrow to name a few.

I’ll be honest. I stopped watching The Walking Dead after the second season. It was a combination of the fact that, up until that time (and maybe since?), producers didn’t explain why the world became a zombie-laden hellscape and that it basically turned into a first-person shooter disguised as a TV show. I’m sure some of you out there are screaming at your computers wondering how I could miss major plot points and blah blah blah. But hey, not everyone likes every program. If that was the case, Police Squad would be wrapping up its 33rd season and The Jeannie Tate Show would have been acquired by Netflix and won multiple Emmys. But enough of a preamble. When word crossed my desk that Universal Studios Hollywood was hiring people to play zombies for their new year-round attraction based on The Walking Dead, I knew I had to try out.

Last week, La’s Petersen Automotive Museum kicked off it’s “Back To The Future Month” with a couple of really cool events that were held to celebrate and welcome to its new permanent home, the DeLorean Time Machine picture car from the iconic and beloved 80’s film Back To The Future.
On Wednesday, April 20th, the newly restored 1981 Delorean that was originally transformed into cinema’s most famous time machine was unveiled at its new home at the Petersen. For years, the car was displayed at Universal Studios Hollywood outside the Back to The Future attraction, and later relegated to the prop junkyard. Needless to say, the elements were not kind and the car sat there, rusty and broken, at the mercy of souvenir hunters and fans wanting photos.

Well, as usual, a good portion of the changes come in the form of bug fixes and patches to exploits and cheats discovered (and abused) by players in the closed beta held earlier in the year, but there’s some been some large changes made to how the game’s Dark Zone functions, too.

Liv rediscovers her zest for life in the latest Veronica Mars-channelling episode of iZombie...
This review contains spoilers.
1.5 Flight Of The Living Dead
iZombie should be ridiculous. On paper, it is ridiculous, but in practice the first four episodes of the new show seemed to be playing it a little safe for the subject matter. There was humour, sure, but there wasn’t as much of an embrace of the absurdity a show about zombies working in a morgue and starting up evil organisations should really have. This week, with the help of a case personal to Liv and a guest spot from Ryan Hansen, that changed.
It was the most Veronica Mars-ey instalment so far and, although it’s pointless to compare the two shows with any regularity, in its early days the ghost of Rob Thomas’ early work can be used to get the audience on side.

Exclusive: Every film needs a sales hook. UFO conspiracy thriller The Phoenix Incident has been flying under the radar even as viral seeds have been germinating across the web like sleeper cells of marketing data. The feature debut of veteran gaming director Keith Arem (Call of Duty, Titanfall) was shot quietly last year and inked select foreign distribution deals during November’s Afm. It screens next week for buyers here in La, accompanied by a transmedia viral campaign that Arem hopes will highlight a new kind of digital storytelling.
“The idea is that you will be on your phone leaving the theater, Googling the information to see if it’s real,” Arem told me.
Arem has two decades in video games under his belt as a talent director on the popular Call of Duty, Saints Row, Ghost Recon, Spiderman, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Persona, Prince of Persia, and Rainbow Six franchises.

He also discussed his high hopes for his first film to be successful enough that he’s allowed to make a second. That’s the dream, right?
DC: There are so many found footage films on the horizon and many that came before. Just to separate you from the pack a little bit, can you talk about the story of Happy Camp?
Ja: I wanted to try to evolve it a little bit more. When we first started doing this, it was a little bit stagnant and everyone was trying to do the Blair Witch model.

The legend of Sawney Bean has been the inspiration (at least partially) for a lot of horror movies over the years: The Hills Have Eyes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, even the Wrong Turn franchise, but until now there has not been a film directly influenced by the legend. And there still isn’t. Based on the (in)famous legend of Sawney Bean, the patriarch of a cannibal family that killed over 1,000 people near the end of the 15th-century, Sawney: Flesh of Man instead updates the tale to modern-day Scotland and sees religious psychopath Sawney (Hayman) stalk Glasgow in a black cab, abducting unholy souls for his communion of sacrifices. With his insane family of inbred killers, Sawney tortures and eats their victims saving the...

Police have said that Leah Remini's missing persons report for Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, was unfounded, but Miscavige's niece, Jenna Miscavige-Hill, wishes the investigation wouldn't end there.

Previously on Once Upon A Time, Stranger Greg and Tamara kept busy being the worst humans ever, Baelfire somehow only aged to approximately 28 in hundreds of years, and Ruby joined Mulan and Aurora in the Land of Missing Persons.
We open long ago in the Enchanted Forest when Rumpelstiltskin proved he really was the Dark One by tossing his son into a vortex all alone. Little Bae arrives on the other side of the vortex in London, in the time of horse-drawn carriages, where he lives on the streets for approximately six months.
One day, when trash pickings are particularly low, Bae seizes an opportunity to sneak in an open window and steal some bread that’s just lying around in a giant dining room. A little girl comes in tells the boy to leave until she realizes he’s not there to harm anyone,...

Ah FrightFest how I love thee. Yes, my annual excursion to Scotland for Glasgow FrightFest continues this year, and I couldn’t be happier! This years line-up is strong, Very strong, with plenty of variety and some great film picks by Alan, Ian, Paul and Greg. Plus the appearance of Norwegian drama Hellsfjord! Of all the films showing this year there’s one that I most excited to see – Detention of the Dead… I’ve tried my hardest to cover the film as much as possible over the past year as it looks like my “cup of tea”, so for it to show at FrightFest is awesome (although to be fair I already knew that was in the line-up). However the real big surprise is the appearance of Neil Jordan’s Byzantium in the line-up – the Scottish crowd is notoriously “blood-thirtsy” so I hope Jordan’s film isn’t too sedate for the Glasgow crowd.

Back at the beginning of July in the daily Briefs, I started the Official snicks Top 100 Lost Hits of The 80's, spotlighting the 100 greatest minor hits of that decade. The songs you don't hear on any 80's nostalgia show. Songs that missed the top ten, or top twenty ... or top forty, and over the last five months I hope some of these forgotten gems may have rung a long dormant bell, or for younger readers, provided a pop music history lesson.
Here is the complete list, including my favorite lost song of the decade. Thank you for taking this 80's road trip with me ... but it's not over yet! I'll be featuring a new Lost Hit once a week in the Wednesday Briefs, so the history lesson will continue!
Let the countdown commence, and remember ... keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars!

Take Chris Tucker off your Missing Persons list: The comedian is finally back on the big screen, after fifteen years of making nothing but Rush Hour films, with Silver Linings Playbook. He stars alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence — who play a bipolar dude and depressed widow, respectively — as Danny, also a crazy person who goes in and out of a mental institution. (He also takes part in the movie's very fun dance scenes.) A cynic might say Tucker's return is out of financial necessity, and that might be true, but the comedian attributes his absence to a lack of good roles. He chatted with Vulture about why this movie ended that streak, a return to the Rush Hour franchise, and teaching Jackie Chan to moonwalk. Why haven't you done a non-Rush Hour film in the last fifteen years? It's not that often you get a good role with...

For centuries, thousands have vanished without a trace… I will admit – this trailer is totally disgusting! So, my recommendation is – don’t eat your lunch while watching it! The movie stars David Hayman as a religious psychopathic killer named Sawney, who drives a devilish Black Cab, stalking the towns and cities, abducting unholy souls for his communion of sacrifices.
Sawney’s insane family of inbred killers Judd and Jake, use their agility to wreak slaughter and havoc among their victims, who are then dragged to Sawney’s lair in the hills, where they are raped, tortured and cannibalised. Sawney with his skillful surgical blade removes the appetizing pieces of human flesh...

When I used to have a life, Halloween was one of my favorite holidays. With the costumes, crisp air and crunching leaves what isn't there to like? Now that I don't play with costumes, I get to live vicariously through television. "Real Estate" was an extraordinary haunted house story wrapped inside of a Halloween celebration and I loved it. Haven made me so happy!
The best thing about the episode was that it put all members of this extremely talented cast together for the majority of the show. When I interviewed Kate Kelton, she said this type of episode is done as a cost saving measure, because it is low on production costs. If it costs less to have them all together, then I'm all for more of these brilliant ensemble pieces. Did I mention it was directed by Jason Priestley? Apparently he enjoyed his turn as Chris Brody so...

Before Unforgettable, CBS viewers knew Poppy Montgomery from another crime drama, Without a Trace. Also starring Anthony Lapaglia, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Enrique Murciano and Eric Close, this hit procedural TV series focuses on a special New York–based FBI task force known as the Missing Persons Squad. It ran for seven seasons and 160 episodes, before being cancelled in 2009.
At the start of the third season, the newly promoted Vivian has replaced Jack as the leader of the Missing Persons Squad. Jack, who is experiencing his share of marital difficulties, is not displaced for long, however, and soon resumes his post. Meanwhile, Vivian is having trouble hiding her health condition from her co-workers and Martin and Samantha's relationship reaches a defining moment.
