British singer approaching 1.4 million in sales with 21.

For decades, British singers and bands have packed up their instruments and wellies and jetted to New York with high hopes of conquering America. Most of them have been sent back with their guitar cases between their legs, defeated by the disinterested Yankee public and intimidated by the expanse of the nation's sprawling music market.
But not Adele. The U.K. songbird has not only planted the Union Jack on these shores, she's damn near set up house in the country that has adopted her soulful tunes as their own. In a week when all but one of the top 15 albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart saw double-digit sales dips, Adele's 21 sold more than enough copies to hold on to the #1 spot yet again, despite a 19 percent drop-off from the previous week. With 124,000 units moved, according...

We've reached the eve of that day that those two people over yonder actually get married which means that one way or another, all this news about dresses and Princess Diana and whatnot ends tomorrow. The wedding itself airs at 6am Eastern time, so those of you west of here can adjust that as necessary to know when to set your alarm for. I'm not planning on watching or participating in any wedding related drinking games because 1. I like sleeping, especially before sunrise and 2. I have to work tomorrow and while my boss may be lenient about a few royal wedding related mimosas, I doubt the officers of Miami-Dade county consider that an acceptable excuse for driving under the influence. Still, I'll watch the highlights and I hope all of you who are waking up for super early morning wedding gawking have a great time. And those of you who...

British singer tops chart for fifth time since album's release, with latest 'Glee' soundtrack debuting at #2.

She's done what such veteran acts as Britney Spears, the Foo Fighters and Chris Brown haven't been able to: hold on to the top spot. Actually, in the nine weeks Adele's 21 has been out in the U.S., the British songbird has been at #1 five different times, and will land there again next week thanks to a 65 percent uptick in sales to 153,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Whether it was an "American Idol" boost thanks to Haley Reinhart performing "Rolling in the Deep" last week or just good word-of-mouth, Adele continues to roll along, closing in on the 1.3 million mark, giving her far-and-away the best-selling album of 2011 so far.
The only debut in next week's top 10 is yet another "Glee" soundtrack, Glee: The Music Presents the Warblers,...

Listen, gentlemen of the Pajibaverse, don't think I didn't see you asking to see pictures of my dirty pillows last night (and, I guess, today for some of you) however I believe I've previously alluded to the fact that both my parents read this site so as far as Pajiba goes any of you hoping for a glimpse of the currently kind of reddish (I spent Easter on the beach) globes are shit out of luck. Besides, the always lovely and accommodating Joanna put up a gallery of lovely ladies and their lovely lady lumps that put me to shame in so many ways I can't begin to list all of them, so you can have your fill of mammary gawking over there. It's for the best, really, those are some Professional boobs whereas mine are utterly amateur. As far as gawking at the TV goes, you'll not find much...

I absolutely adore the flashback episodes of "The Vampire Diaries," because I think that they're the ones that really showcase the show's greatest strength: the relationship between Stefan and Damon.
You can 'ship until you're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, the relationship between the brothers Salvatore is undeniably the most complex one in the series. It's a centuries-old rivalry driven, firstly, by the inherent blood-borne love anyone has for his family. When it's easier to hate someone, loving them is a giant pain in the ass, because you can't just shake it and you can't walk away from it.
Seeing the way Damon and Stefan related to each other just after they turned, when they were essentially all each other had in the world, is absolutely heartbreaking. I rarely feel the urge to give Damon a hug... tonight I did. "The Dinner Party" was...

Shaft & Richard Roundtree, London
He crops up in everything from Se7en to Heroes to Desperate Housewives, but to most people Roundtree will forever be "the black private dick who's a sex machine to all the chicks". Shaft wasn't quite the first blaxploitation movie, but it was the movement's cultural moment – a surprise hit that made the studios sit up and take notice, and repositioned the African-American presence in the media landscape, as well as ushering in a golden age of funky soundtracks. Shaft was inspiration to film-makers black and white, from Spike Lee to Quentin Tarantino, and a template for actors from Denzel Washington to Wesley Snipes to Samuel L Jackson to, er, Black Dynamite. Roundtree had his work cut out escaping the role, especially after two Shaft sequels, a Shaft TV series and a cameo in the 2000 remake, but who wouldn't want to be forever associated with the coolest theme tune in movie history?...

Well, depending on the weather in your neighborhood, it’s not too late to check out Going The Distance, the new romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. At the world premiere of the film in Los Angeles last week, our own Janell Snowden — armed, as always, with her her trusty Samsung Epic™ 4G — caught up with Jimmy Fallon (who, once upon a time, starred opposite Drew in a romantic comedy himself!), Airborne Toxic Event and co-star Natalie Morales. Check out their thoughts on the film below!

Welcome to the second Pajiba Real-Time Review of the Grammys. I have no idea why I volunteered to do this, other than a) I enjoy massive amounts of suffering and b) it gives me an opportunity to be the disgusting music snob that I am. Probably more a than b. For tonight's show, I'm joined by a large, ornery cat and half a bottle of Bushmill's Irish Whiskey. Let's boogie.

Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell performs on Sunday
Photo: Gil Kaufman/ MTV News
Chicago — Perry Farrell left it to a couple of Lollapalooza veterans to close out day three of his annual party in the park. Of course, after two days of sets by everyone from Tool and Kings of Leon to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Asher Roth, one of those headliners was his own Jane's Addiction, who played the fest with their original lineup for the first time since they helped launch the touring juggernaut way back in 1991. The other topper, the Killers, have also been there before, serving the same honors back in 2005 at the first Chicago-based Lolla, and they brought an even bigger sound and vision this time around in a head-to-head with the reconstituted Jane's.

Chicago -- Los Angeles' The Airborne Toxic Event played to a small crowd of fans willing to rock and roll as the sweltering heat continued into a second day at Lollapalooza, but despite the misery index, Toxic's brand of bouncy emo-rock was very well-received by the head nodding crowd.
Dressed all in black, Ate's set kicked off with "Wishing Well," driven by riffs that'd make U2 guitarist The Edge proud. The band skirts a musical line that makes them easily accessible to modern rock fans, with songs that pulsate with a driving beat, steadily building to quick and tight explosions of energy on each song.
It's easy to say that violinist Anna Burbrook is the band's secret weapon, but it's the energy she brings to the stage that perfectly balances out frontman Mikel Jollett's steady nature. She constanly alternates between her synths and violins, dancing around stage at every opportunity.
