Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake and its sequel are divisive with audiences, largely due to their replacement of the subtlety of John Carpenter’s iconic film with excessive violence and a generally bleak atmosphere. However, one aspect of the 2007 effort that does work reasonably well is the use of young Michael Myers, as played by Daeg Faerch, whose performance has been praised by high profile fans of the picture. The actor was switched out for Halloween II with Chase Wright Vanek, though, raising the question of why Zombie recast the role.
According to ScreenRant, the reasons behind the move are straightforward, even though they might be exaggerating a bit when they say that it was an “incredibly controversial choice” to replace Faerch. The explanation given for the decision is that the performer was intended to reprise the character of young Myers, even recording screen tests, but had grown too much to return.

Continuing the nightmare he began two years ago, Rob Zombie has returned for another go-around with the Haddonfield slasher, Michael Myers. Of course, the nightmare he began with his remake of John Carpenter’s 1978 classic, ‘Halloween,’ was not just a nightmare for the characters in the film. Many believed Zombie tried too hard to recreate Carpenter’s film, a la Gus Van Sant with ‘Psycho,’ while others felt the film deviated far too much. Still others, myself included, felt Zombie’s first effort with these characters was jarring, disjointed, and, oftentimes, uncomfortable to watch. Much of that probably had to do with Zombie’s own discomfort in trying to make his own film amidst the overall narrative of something nearly 30 years old. However, with ‘Halloween II,’ Zombie has found his comfort. No longer plagued by the belief he had to please all the people all the time, his latest film feels much more his own,...

There’s a subtheme running through Halloween II about the exploitation of the Michael Myers name for profit, and Exhibit A is Halloween II itself. The movie that Rob Zombie first said he’d never make, and then got rushed to the screen by Dimension Films when he changed his mind, adds nothing to the mythology established by John Carpenter and Debra Hill in 1978 and embellished by Zombie two years ago, reduces Michael from a malefic All Hallows’ spirit to a lumbering, easily distracted hulk and, most crucially, is almost never scary.
Whether due to the hurried development and production or to rumored behind-the-scenes meddling, Halloween II feels half-hearted and even less thought out. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the numerous scenes in which Michael (Tyler Mane) has visions of his mother Deborah (Sheri Moon Zombie) and his younger self (Chase Wright Vanek, a pallid replacement for the...

In 2007, Rob Zombie won the ire of a multitude of horror fans in his revision of Halloween; a remake so sorely received that its release temporarily lowered the Rotten Tomatoes ‘Tomatometer’ of the 1978 original. Despite the groans and gnashing of teeth from critics and fans alike, the film was a success in one critical junction – it made money. Nothing buried underneath the dirt of so much cash ever stays dead for long. Now, two years later we bear witness to the aftermath of this financial success in Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 - God help us all!
The story starts where the last one stopped. Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) is sent to the hospital, and Michael (Tyler Mane), temporarily dead, takes a ride in the meat wagon. Michael, being the kind of man he is, doesn’t stay dead for long; the meat wagon guys are dealt with, as well as one rather unlucky cow,...

Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 doesn’t live up to the promise of his first effort and is only marginally entertaining for its running time. The film, which begins about a minute after the last one ends, continues the tale of Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) and her descent into madness. During the film she’s also pursued by Michael Myers, a sinister and relentless killing machine who even thought he’s on a mission to find Laurie and do whatever it is sociopaths do with people they find instead of killing them, he manages to stop along the way and kill many people seemingly at random or just because they happen to be in his way.
There are some things to like about this sequel. First, Zombie manages to up the tension and the stakes a bit from the first one — its now even more about saving Laurie — plus he...

While he wasn't allowed to take any photos of Zombie, or the cast, he was able to snap a few shots of the sets and surroundings, all of which can be found inside. In addition, you'll also find IGN's behind-the-scenes video footage that features an interview with Scout Taylor-Compton (Laurie Strode). Watch for our report from set in the coming weeks. An unknown Seattle, Washington actor will be the latest to play serial killer Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's new Halloween movie.
Chase Wright Vanek has been drafted into H2, which is currently shooting in Georgia, as the young Myers.
He replaces Daeg Faerch, who played Myers in Zombie's 2007 Halloween remake. A growth spurt cost Faerch the role, according to website Bloody-Disgusting.com.
A source says, "He apparently grew to a height taller than (co-star) Sheri Moon since the last film hit theatres."...
