Every month there always seems to be a new horror anthology released and Tales From the Other Side is one of the latest. A very low budget one but that is something I’m used to and anthology horror is something I generally enjoy so I was happy to give this a go.
Featuring one wraparound segment and six ‘tales’ there’s plenty to see here. So let’s get straight into the first proper tale. ‘Petrified Boy’ at least starts off with some kind of creepy story about a touring circus and its main attraction – the petrified boy. The problem is the...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Sector 5 Films. Director: Frank Merle. Writers: James Cullen Bressack and Frank Merle. Cast: Tony Todd, Derek Mears, Aaron Abrams, Meghan Deanna Smith and Danielle Taddei. #FromJennifer is the third film in the series. This second sequel was preceded by To Jennifer (2013) and 2 Jennifer (2016). This latest production is from director Frank Merle and writer James Cullen Bressack. And, the series comes to a close with a tale of revenge and internet fame. Mostly comedic, a couple of horror veterans, Tony Todd (Candyman, 1992) and Derek Mears (Hatchet III, 2013) anchor the film. But, there are few scary moments here and more laughs. Meanwhile, Jennifer is her own hero and villain, sabotaging her path to success. The third act goes off the deep end. Still, #FromJennifer is an entertaining time, that goes by quite fast, even considering its short seventy-five minute runtime. The story begins with our damaged hero.

Who knew that James Cullen Bressack’s iPhone 5-lensed horror To Jennifer would inspire someone to create – with Bressack’s permission – a sequel that not only builds on the tory of the first film but also takes this particular “series” to a whole new meta level!
2 Jennifer stars Hunter Johnson (owner of LAHorror.com) – who also directs – David Coupe and Lara Jean Mummert. The film also features performances from To Jennifer alums James Cullen Bressack, Jarrett Furst & Jody Barton; as well as Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Veronica Ricci (Bloody Mary 3D), Erin Marie Hogan (House of Manson), Charles Chudabala, Josh Brown and Matt Holbrook.
Two filmmakers attempt to make the perfect sequel to “To Jennifer,” however a dark secret threatens the lives of everyone involved. Jennifer, a beautiful actress, now has two options: become the heroine of the film, or face a brutal death.

Legendary thespian Malcolm McDowell will again be in the middle of another creepy tale when The Employer is released next month by First Look Pictures. McDowell sat down with Dread Central to talk about the film and some other current projects.
Although The Employer is not a dyed-in-the-wool horror film, more of a genre-bender according to the actor, it certainly will entertain audiences with a chilling story. "It's not an out and out horror film per se," McDowell said. "Sort of a psychological thriller/horror. It's a little bit fuzzy as to what genre it is. But it's a fun piece. We did it on a very modest budget. I liked the script. It's definitely a character-driven piece, and our director, Frank Merle, did a great job. It's a fun ride."
And speaking on the director, McDowell continued with the accolades. "This is his first feature film, but it certainly won't be his last,...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Vision Films. It is hard to recommend a film that borrows so heavily from others. The Employer, from director Frank Merle, is an almost complete adaption of Stuart Hazeldine's United Kingdom shot Exam (2009). Both films deal with anonymous corporations and strange hiring practices. While it is not unusual to see a horror film borrow from another, The Employer is a film that this critic has seen many times before. And, The Employer does not bring anything new to the claustrophobic style of filmmaking, which has been seen in films such as The Steam Experiment, 247°F and many others. Instead, this film is very predictable, with Malcolm McDowell's performance as the boss, the only reason to watch. Exam and The Employer have very comparable stories. Both films deal with some very ambitious job seekers. Their ambition is turned...

Let's face it: It's not easy making it nowadays. The economy sucks, and the concept of steady work is like chasing a mythical unicorn. That being said, how far would you go to get a job? How badly do you want one? The Employer wants to know!
Written and directed by Frank Merle, The Employer stars Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Halloween, Silent Night, "The Mentalist,” “Entourage,” “Franklin & Bash”), Paige Howard (Adventureland), Billy Zane (Titanic, Back to the Future, Dead Calm), and David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Saving Lincoln, Prisoners). Merle and Chris Roe produce.
Look for it to be released on June 7th.

This week, the next chapter in The Last Exorcism series, aptly titled The Last Exorcism Part II, hits the screen this Friday (March 1st) and ShockTillYouDrop.com caught up with producer Eli Roth to preview the film for us. We grilled him on that title (wasn't the last film the "last" exorcism?) and got him to comment on the sequel's decision to eschew the "found footage" format, the strength of Ashley Bell and more.
Continuing where the first film left off, Part II finds teenage Nell Sweetzer (Bell) is found dirty and terrified in the woods having just escaped a demon ritual in which a cult helped her give birth to a demon baby. She is moved into Davreaux – a girls’ halfway house in New Orleans, where she will try to put her life back together with the help of the therapist, Frank Merle. She even begins to date a...

It looks like you may have to settle for a minor trade-off in the upcoming The Last Exorcism Part II. Yes, it seems they have dropped the found footage angle, but in its place they now have a ton of great locations like the streets of New Orleans, an old halfway house, and churches occupied by possessed priests. If all that wasn’t enough, there are a ton of dark figures lurking in the shadows and behind windows. I mean A Lot Of Them. It’s kind of bizarre that they spotlight this new element so much in this trailer for the upcoming sequel since nowhere in the original film do you have such a visual device. All in all, the trailer didn’t really possess my soul or mind . . . or any other part of me. It more or less looks relatively like every other possession film I have seen thus far.

Want to know why we are seeing a sequel to The Last Exorcism? Because the first film was made for only $2 million, and it brought in over $67 million at the box office. That's a huge profit! It looks like CBS Films and Studio Canal are playing it safe with The Last Exorcism Part II, and sticking to the exact same formula as the first film, just in a different setting. I guess if you're a hardcore fan of the first movie, you might like the sequel.

Well, the trailer for The Last Exorcism Part II has arrived and we're now learning a thing or two about it. It appears it's not a "found footage" of faux documentary like the first film was. And we may or may not know what happened to Patrick Fabian's Cotton Marcus.

I guess the more twisted and distorted the body is the scarier it's supposed to be. CBS Films has released this poster for The Last Exorcism Part II, and if the sequel is anything like the poster, then it looks like we're going to get the same horror film all over again. The Last Exorcism 2 made an appearance at the annual November gathering in Santa Monica called American Film Market, where buyers and sellers haggle over rights to raise money for the film and to discuss a ton of upcoming projects.
One of the things discussed was the plot summary for next installment of 2010 surprise hit, which is now being titled as The Last Exorcism II: The Beginning of the End.
