Alice Glass has returned with her first new music of 2024: a cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ 1992 song “Drown.”
Produced by longtime collaborator Jupiter Keyes, Glass’ cover sees the song reimagined with an electronic arrangement. Over a bed of synths, samples, and percussion, Glass carries the melody with her signature processed vocals. In a statement, she described the cover — and its release — as an act of artistic fidelity.
“I believe in the power of art to transcend betrayal and disappointment,” she said. “‘Drown’ is not just a cover; it’s a testament to resilience and artistic integrity. This track was created after we were asked to be a part of an exciting compilation that ultimately didn’t end up happening. But I didn’t want that to stop us from sharing our interpretation of this iconic Smashing Pumpkins track. This release is a declaration of autonomy and a reminder that...

Canadian musical act Crystal Castles is blowing up on TikTok, but new fans should be made aware of the controversy surrounding the now-defunct band and allegations made by former singer Alice Glass.
The electropunk band, which formed in 2006 and has been inactive since 2017, is making waves yet again thanks to songs like "Transgender" and "Crimewave" appearing in popular videos on TikTok.
Heralding from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the group consisted of songwriter-producer Ethan Kath and singer-songwriter Alice Glass; however, Glass left the band in 2014 and was replaced by singer Edith Frances.

Boys Noize and Pussy Riot have a simple message for Putin and the rest of the patriarchy: “Put it in a dick cage.” On “Chastity,” their new joint single, which also features Alice Glass, they play with sexual power dynamics – “When I say ‘sit,’ you sit/When I say ‘crawl,’ you crawl” – over burbling, clubby synths all leading to the chorus/punchline: “You can make me love you if you … put it in a dick cage.”

Alice Glass has released new song “Suffer and Swallow,” the first single from her upcoming debut album, due out later this year.
The glitchy track deals in themes of reclaiming power over someone or something that seemingly held the control. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow)/You know there’s no tomorrow (you know there’s no tomorrow)/I did this for you,” Glass ethereally sings on the chorus with a harsh contrasting backing vocal echoing her lyrics. “Suffer and swallow (suffer and swallow)/I know what you are/I know what you are.

Upcoming horror movie The Turning may take place in the Nineties, but you’re not going to hear “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on the soundtrack.
Instead, director Floria Sigismondi teamed up with producer-musicians Lawrence Rothman and Yves Rothman to create a whole new aural environment for the movie, which is a retelling of Henry James’ 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. They enlisted a cadre of musicians — from Courtney Love to Soccer Mommy — to write their own versions of Nineties music.

Marilyn Manson was hurt Saturday night after a massive stage prop collapsed onto the singer during his concert at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
Manson, 48, was about 45 minutes into his set, performing a cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," when he tried to climb a podium flanked by two large fake handguns. The prop immediately toppled over, causing the show to come to an abrupt end. After the stage crew lifted the prop back up, Manson reportedly lay on the ground for several minutes, at which point, Emt workers rushed to the backstage area, as venue workers shouted for ice.
"Manson suffered an injury towards the end of his incredible NYC show," a rep for the rock star told Rolling Stone. "He is being treated at a local hospital."

At long last, the specific release details of Crystal Castles‘ debut album have arrived. The duo’s first studio album since Edith Frances replaced Alice Glass as vocalist will be titled Amnesty and will come out through Casablanca Records on August 19th.
In addition, Crystal Castles have revealed another song from the effort titled “Char.” The arrangement leans more heavily on nostalgic synth work than it does on Frances’ breathy vocals compared to recent songs like “Concrete,” but yields just as compelling results.
Speaking of “Concrete,” the duo released the official music video of the track in conjunction with the announcement of a world tour whose dates would pick up right where their current one leaves off. Being that they will have two UK performances left on their current tour following the release of Amnesty, the songs will have ample time to bounce around the blogosphere before they come back to the States.

The best things come in pairs, and Crystal Castles appear to recognize this. Earlier in the year the duo announced that they would make a comeback with Edith Frances replacing Alice Glass as vocalist, and now they’ve revealed the music video for the first single from their upcoming album alongside the dates of a three-month world tour.
The official music video for “Concrete” pairs the song’s primal vocals and foreboding synth melodies with subversive images of Frances mouthing the words while stumbling backwards through a crowded venue. The sound is not a significant departure from what Crystal Castles has put out in recent years, but it’s certainly different from the blog house tracks that put them on the map in the late aughts.
The last tour dates announced by the duo will wrap up with a performance at Reading & Leeds Festival in England on August 27th, and...

It wasn’t all that long ago that Crystal Castles fans feared that the departure of vocalist Alice Glass would signal the demise of the group. A year in the electronic music world is a long time, though, and now that such an interval has elapsed since her replacement arrived in the form of Edith Frances, the group is ready to announce a new album and tour dates.
Crystal Castles’ fourth studio-length album will arrive sometime in the spring. If it follows the pattern established by the group’s first three albums, then it will be titled IV – but without Glass in the picture, they might find it more tasteful to make a departure from the trend.
In addition, group founder Ethan Kath has revealed tour dates straddling the spring and summer months at locations throughout North America and Europe.
