Netflix’s “Scoop” is inspired by the real events behind the bold efforts of “Newsnight” booker Sam McAlister to secure an interview with Prince Andrew amidst the fallout he felt from his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
It traces the admirable behind-the-scenes teamwork of McAlister, journalist and interviewer Emily Maitlis (Gillian Anderson), editor Esme Wren (Romola Garai), producer Stewart Maclean (Richard Goulding) and ultimate fact-checker Freddy (Jordan Kouamé), as well as photographer Jae Donnolly (Connor Swindells).
High stakes, adrenaline and twists and turns make “Scoop” a compelling watch, in addition to the star-stacked cast that portrays all the real-life players.

The lush British costume drama, Belgravia: The Next Chapter, from Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes has undergone a few changes since 2020. The setting is still the posh London enclave of the title, but it’s 1871 — 30 years later — and most of Season 1’s characters have died. The spotlight is now on Lord Frederick Trenchard (Benjamin Wainwright), grandson of the original Belgravia’s wealthy, social-climbing merchant James Trenchard. (Credit: Mark Mainz/Carnival Film & Television Limited/MGM+) Frederick was badly abused by his father, James’ son Oliver. The reason? Frederick’s real father is the cad John Bellasis (Adam James). Never told about his illegitimate birth, the insecure, self-loathing young lord blames his inability to love on his younger brother, James. “James was always the favorite child,” says exec producer Gareth Neame. “That completely destroyed Frederick.” Still, Frederick believes — maybe incorrectly — that ...

King Charles might want to look away. “The Windsors” – Channel 4’s satirical comedy series about the British royal family – is returning for a fourth season, with comedian Harry Enfield set to reprise his role as the hapless Charles.
Variety understands work got underway on a fourth season last May but the creative team were sidetracked by the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September and her son Prince Charles’s succession to the throne. “The Windsors” team are set to mark Charles’s coronation next month with a feature-length special, which recently wrapped.
A rep for Channel 4 said a fourth season hadn’t yet been confirmed but Variety understands that the team are planning to start shooting later this year or early 2024. And while the show will not feature the latest generation of royals, which include William and Kate’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, some...

As if King Charles III didn’t already have enough drama in his life, between his logorrheic son Prince Harry and disgraced brother Prince Andrew, comedian Harry Enfield is set to unleash a little more chaos ahead of the coronation in May.
Enfield’s Channel 4 comedy “The Windsors” is returning for a coronation special, with the comedian set to reprise his role as the monarch.
“Charles’ whole life has been building up to this moment and he wants the U.K.’s first coronation in seventy years to be a spectacular affair with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves,” reads the logline. “As does his Queen Consort Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), who can’t wait to drape herself in diamonds and fur. Sadly, the U.K. is in the middle of a cost of living crisis and Wills (Hugh Skinner) thinks the coronation should reflect these more straitened times.”

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review on “Benediction,” the biography film of Siegfried Sassoon, a prominent early 20th Century poet who lived his life as a closeted gay man … a somber kick-off to Pride Month. In select theaters, see local listings for theaters and show times.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
This is an unconventional bio as Sassoon became one of Britain’s leading poets in part due to his protest and honor poems after serving as a decorated soldier in World War One. He also was a closeted gay man, evolving through a number of influential relationships including Wilfred Owen (Matthew Tennyson) and Calam Lynch (Stephen Tennant). Later, he married Hester (Kate Phillips) and converted to the Catholic faith in his older age, while at the same time negotiating his relationship with son George (Richard Goulding).

A haunting biopic about a haunted man, Benediction is a masterful, visually dynamic film about a complex man famous for his writing about the horror of war. Decorated for bravery and beloved by the soldiers serving with him, Siegfried Sassoon was a WWI British officer who returned from that brutal conflict to vocally oppose the war, and became one of Britain’s acclaimed war poets.
Benediction is a brilliant feast of a film, written and directed by British auteur Terence Davies. Sassoon was among the renowned war poets who came out of WWI, a devastating conflict whose brutality virtually wiped out a generation, toppled monarchies, and prompted the Geneva Convention’s rules on warfare. Written by Sarah Phelps (“The Pale Horse”), the series is from the makers of the award-winning “A Very English Scandal,” Blueprint Pictures. Alice Eve stars in the new Epix limited series “Belgravia” from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes. The Oscar and Emmy winner adapted his 2016 best-selling novel about the upwardly mobile Trenchards navigating London society in the 1840s and the secret that could be their undoing. As Eve reveals in our interview (watch the exclusive video above), her character, Susan, has married into the family and could be their undoing. Although her character may be unlikable on the surface, this Oxford-educated actress explains, “I like debunking conventional interpretations of people. I went through that in school being thought of as a blond bimbo but I was actually quite academic, a nerd.”
Eve regards Fellowes as a feminist because he “has such deep empathy with the female position. He wrote my character with such insight and it was so joyous to play someone like that.” She credits him with helping her crack her character.

Epix released the official trailer for its upcoming series, Belgravia.
Belgravia will premiere in 2020 and cover the secrets and scandals among the upper echelon of London society in the 19th Century (That's the 1800s for those of you who failed history).
The limited series will focus on the Trenchard family after they accept an invitation to a legendary ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond.

If you liked “Downton Abbey,” then has Epix got the show for you! Because limited series “Belgravia” looks and sounds Exactly like “Downton” — the trailer even reveals an almost identical piano theme.
Here’s the thing though: “Belgravia” is a Julian Fellowes adaptation of a Julian Fellowes novel of the same name, and Fellowes, Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, and Liz Trubridge are the executive producers. In other words, it can’t be a “Downton” ripoff if it’s by the folks behind “Downton.”
(And yes, we checked with Epix: This lookalike — and soundalike — show has nothing to do with “Downton” other than the producing team. It’s not a spinoff or companion series.)

The announcement of the film “Brexit” — which aired in the U.K. on Channel 4 before its HBO bow on Jan. 19 — engendered serious criticism from the British, and understandably so. The film, which looks at recent history in the manner HBO productions like “Game Change” and “Recount” had done, takes on a story whose very fundamentals are still in doubt. For those who believe the Brexit vote, a plebiscite that resulted in the U.K.’s protracted quitting of the European Union, turned out the way it did because of nefarious or illegal tactics, “Brexit” covers material that’s too painful, and too unsettled, to handle.
But the protest didn’t account for the fact that the film, indeed, addresses various potential causes, so much so that it feels at times more like a polemic against the forces that led to upheaval than like a fiction film. In its multifarious...

"How to change the course of history?" HBO has revealed a full-length trailer for a movie called Brexit, also known as Brexit: The Uncivil War, which is actually a made-for-tv film but we can't help feature it anyway. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this as Dominic Cummings, the now infamous political strategist who utilized controversial campaigning and social media tactics to successfully (unfortunately) spearhead the "Vote Leave" campaign. For those from America, Cummings seems to be the Steve Bannon of the UK, an outsider who riled up the public to make a rash decision that is still being debated. The cast includes John Heffernan, Rory Kinnear, Liz White, Richard Goulding, Paul Ryan, Oliver Maltman, Nicholas Day, and Lee Boardman. Made by the director of the Emmy-nominated "USS Callister" episode of "Black Mirror". This looks damn good; I dig the freshness of the look and feel, and that it shows all his dirty tricks.

Talk about newsworthy.
With British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plans running up against vast Parliamentary opposition, chaos beckons for the United Kingdom. I’m based in London and this topic’s on everyone’s lips right now. After the March 29th Article 50 deadline passes, will we leave without a deal and commit economic suicide, including food and drug shortages? Will be end up as a vassal state, subject to EU regulations but unable to influence them? Will Brexit just not happen at all?
Nobody knows. Which is why it’s a smart and timely moment for HBO to drop the trailer for Brexit, which is going to try and show us how we got into this mess in the first place. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Dominic Cummings, one of the chief architects of the campaign to leave the European Union. Ever since the referendum, there’s been a slow...
