It took him four tries, but "Boston Rob" Mariano finally earned the title "Sole Survivor." The 35-year-old outwitted, outplayed and outlasted 17 other players to win the $1 million prize on " Survivor: Redemption Island ." He also won $100,000 after being named "Sprint's Player of the Season." So dominant was Mariano's game play that host Jeff Probst marveled, "In 22 seasons, that’s as close to a perfect game as anybody has ever played." With three previous "Survivor" seasons under his belt, Mariano carefully schemed his way over the course of 39 days. He blindsided his toughest rivals and ended up taking two non-threats -- naive Natalie Tenerelli and unpopular Phillip Sheppard -- to the final two. Sheppard only received one vote from the final jury, and it quickly became apparent that Mariano would win. After Probst read the winning vote, Mariano thanked his competitors and quickly made his way into the studio audience to...

We thought the "Survivor: Redemption Island" reunion was going to be pretty boring. Boston Rob won (by a large margin) the million dollar prize and he also won (by a much slimmer margin) the America's vote money, which is what we all kind of assumed would happen.
But then! David Murphy, the outspoken defense attorney, started talking with Jeff about how he met Carolina Eastwood of "Survivor: Tocantins" after he came home from filming and they've been dating since. He says it wasn't love at first sight, it was more that "she kind of put [him] in [his] place a few times before she actually gave [him] the time of day."
After playing it coy, Jeff leads David into his planned proposal. David says, "You are the most amazing woman I've ever met. You challenge me, you drive me nuts, but at the end of the day you made me happier than I could ever ask to be,...

Another season of "Survivor" hit the TV screen last night (February 12) with its Tocantins edition. 16 castaways are traveled to the most remote area of Brazil and led to their camp which would be their home for the next 39 days. While the season premiere is full of insights to each of the survivors, the second episode will be marked with the first challenge.
In the episode of "The Poison Apple Needs to Go" which airs February 19, the tribes will be competing in a basketball game which is conducted in the middle of a shallow water. The game which is in the middle of a heavy rain, produces one shot "that changes everything".
One castaway has been voted out on the day three of the game. 26-year old bartender Carolina Eastwood from West Hollywood that was in Jalapao, was considered the weakest and consequently voted out 7-1. One vote from Carolina herself went to 53-year-old Sandy Burgin.

While there will be no fully-realized lesbians when Survivor's 19th season kicks off in February, there are among the contestants a lot of self-professed "tomboys" and "former softball players." Or, as I like to call them, "gateway labels."
This time around, the wilderness-savvy warriors (or fame whores) will survive in the highlands of Tocantins, which, according to Wikipedia, is a state in Brazil, and not the imaginary home of Toucan Sam, as I originally thought when I read the press release. (Although, how awesome would it be if Survivor 20 took place somewhere like Narnia or Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Reality TV is imaginary; embrace it.)
Before every season of Survivor, I like to look at the contestants' promo shots and job descriptions to try to predict who has an actual chance. Here's this season's batch of women:
Candace Smith, attorney from Dayton, Ohio
Carolina Eastwood, bartender from West Hollywood,...
