Sharmila Tagore in Suman Ghosh’s Berlin EFM Indian Title ‘Puratawn,’ First Look Unveiled (Exclusive)
Prolific filmmaker Suman Ghosh has unveiled the first look for his new film “Puratawn” (“Ancient”), starring veteran Indian actor Sharmila Tagore.
Tagore takes on the role of a matriarch grappling with the challenges of aging. As her 80th birthday is celebrated by her daughter and son-in-law at the ancestral house, the unfolding events over the next week become the focal point of the narrative, delving into the complexities that shape their collective journey.
Rituparna Sengupta’s Bhavna Aaj O Kal (“Datta”) is producing the film, which is seeking a sales agent at the Berlin Film Festival’s European Film Market.

Curatorial Note:
On 23rd August we will build a discussion around two narratives both dealing with urban planning and development. First, a macro vision where India’s leading architect and urban planner Charles Correa proposes a solution to the problems of a huge metropolis literally falling apart under population pressure. He searches for inspiration by tracing the path of the conception of the city itself.
The second story presents the micro picture – the lived reality of a common man, trying to survive in a city bent upon throwing him out. While one film proposes an organic and holistic approach, the other documents the fallout of market-oriented urban ‘development’. Separated by four decades, set in two different cities, these films present an interesting study of urban development throwing up important questions of housing,...

I took the wife and kids to two of the Free events last weekend and we had a blast!
Cinema St. Louis’ Sliff/Kids, the First Annual St. Louis International Children’s Film Festival presented by Pnc Arts Alive continues this weekend.
Here are the Sliff/Kids Venues for the last weekend of the fest:
• Ronnies 20 Cine: 5320 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Attendees should go to the box office when they arrive at the theater to obtain complimentary tickets. • St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library Auditorium (screenings) and Creative Experience (camps): 1301 Olive St. downtown. • Washington University’s Brown Hall Auditorium: Forsyth Boulevard and Chaplin Drive (two blocks west of Skinker Boulevard). Parking is available in the lots between Skinker Boulevard and Chaplin Drive; no permits are required. And here is the line-up for the films show at Sliff/Kids this weekend. Did we mention that everything is Free??!!
